Why is my computer saying my copy of windows is not genuine?

    Question

  • I received my computer for Christmas last year. It was a brand new computer my dad got from Best Buy. It has worked fine and it continues to work fine but it is now saying my copy of windows might not be genuine. At the bottom right of my screen it says "Windows 7 Build 7600 This copy of windows is not genuine." I am very confused by this because my dad said he windows 7 when he got the computer. Please help.

  • @Piquat

Please observe announcement 2 above and start your own thread.  Even if the issue is similar, it is not your issue.

Most Non-Genuine issues look the same regardless of the true underlying cause. So to help minimize the confusion caused by troubleshooting multiple different issues, we ask that all users create their own thread for thier own specific issue.

In other words, please do not post "Me Too" messages in other people's threads.

    Thank you,
    Darin MS

That can happen if the self-repair capability of the WGA/WAT process works, or if the cause is a 'race condition' where two programs are fighting for possession of the same data file.

Hopefully, you'll never see it again :)

  • You are piggybacking on another poster's thread.  Please read the sticky at the top of this forum page titled, "Please Read Before Posting."

Having said that, your copy of Windows is completely counterfeit.  You are using an OEM SLP (factory installed) copy of Windows 7 on a computer built four years before Windows 7 even released to manufacturers.  You need to replace this copy of Windows with a retail standard copy of Windows 7 or restore the original copy of XP that shipped with this computer.  Further, you are using an Acer OEM product key on a Compaq computer.
