I have belonged tothe Maps Program since it started, I'm having a problem now though that maybe someone can help. When I am sighed in on the Partner Page their are 22 choices under the MAPS setting ,new members click here and on the right renewing members! I have a client who has had her laptop stolen. The laptop was recovered by the police, but the hard drive had been removed. We have installed a new hard drive and purchased recovery disks from Toshiba, so her O/S is all back on and legal again.

She also had office 2007 installed but did not stick her Keys label on the laptop. Her laptop bag was never recovered and i believe that the key card was in there.

Is there any was ov getting a replacement install / activatio keys for her. We have the police crime number etc.

Hi,

I have some question as below.

1st All HP, Dell & Toshiba and Many Laptops come with Preinstall Operating System with recovery Manager and they don’t give any copy of software on box. Now is there any wrong to make copy and give to customer.

2nd If someone have Lic sticker on top of cpu and we use any other original media cd and we activate for customer is there any wrong ?

3rd if we import Microsoft products from diffract regional than east Africa and if it is genuine is there any wrong to sell here ?

4th How do we check the software weather it is genuine or not ? what are security mark is there of box and cd ?

Old Software Selling Rights

I have an old retail box of Windows 95 and retail box of Windows 98 that has never been opened (and for sake of topic focus, genuine). I understand some license agreements like Select or Open has the OS tied to a particular machine, but not retail copies. Instead of tossing them out, I decided to sell them on Craigslist but the listing got flagged for removal. One moderator quoted, "Mr. Gates says you can't sell Microsoft products unless you are a reseller".

If that's the case, then shouldn't they flag every computer sold on craigslist by an individual (not reseller) that does not specifically state the OS has been completely removed? Surely Retail skus can be sold with the license transferred.

It's not so much whether these 2 boxes of software sell as much as I want to see if this is a license "myth" or reality. I've tried to search for specific verbiage regarding this question but can't seem to find any. Would someone from Microsoft please clarify licensing resell rights an individual has for non OPEN or SELECT or EA agreements?

Re-installing XP on my hard drive

Hi all,
I usually turn off my computer and switch off the main line when I'm done with it. I have a Dell running Windows XP. I've run through all the checks of genuine and have got all the latest software updates through the update feature etc. etc.

Yesterday while it was shutting down, out of sheer impatience, I turned off the main switch before the shutdown process was completed. I've done it a few times before and had no real problems. This time though it was different. Today I tried to turn on my computer and I got the usual black screen with the microsoft logo, and then saw the blue screen that said Welcome, and thats it..... The boot process never went further than that. I could move the mouse but after a while the mouse too froze.

By the looks of it I feel I've corrupted the XP install on the hard drive. I do have an XP installer CD and was able to boot from the disk, but then I was taken the to C:\Windows directory and was only able to run a select few commands, i.e. I wasnt able to start the Graphical Interface. Instead I got the DOS prompt. From there I ran the chkdsk and bootcfg commands and everything checked out fine. However still when I tried booting from the hard drive it doesnt go beyond the Welcome screen.

So I feel I might have to re-install the Operating System. My question is, can I get away with just installing the operating system and it NOT destroying my data files ? I would hate very much to loose the data on my hard drive. Are there any other solutions that I could try to get my computer working back as normal apart from an XP re-install ?

Hello, I have recently decided to switch out hard drives for my laptop, to get more space, and I went to find the disks that came with my laptop, presumely the disk that contains my OEM, or recovery CD for Vista, but it appears it has been lost. Does anyone know how I could copies of these disks, or do I need to make them, and if so, how? Also my case for my Microsoft office was in the missing box, so I want to get a copy of the recovery disk for that, but I don't have my key, but my sister has a product key for hers, can I use that key to get a recovery cd and use it myself? Also very sorry if this is in the wrong place, I couldnt find the correct place to post this.

Gentlemen,

I use my computer in a home network and I have a machine that we all use in the family for bakcups. Also I need to send and receive faxes from older people that do not have Internet access. I also like better the old interface of windows XP professional I had in my previous laptop.

In view of this I would like to know how to downgrade to Windows XP Professional, or eitheir how to download the windows sincronization or the briefcase for vista and also a windows fax program which were quitely removed from Windows Vista Home editions.

Hopefully having a genuire copy of Windows Vista may have an advantage

I recently had to repair my Window XP install and after I have done that I have this message in my task bar. I have researched it and found some stuff on the error and it seems to relate to SP2, but mine is a little different. I cannot run any MS application including Internet Explorer and Office, but I can run any other application. I happen to have SP2 on a disc so I put it on the desktop to install and when I get all the way through it tells me "Access is denied" and then forces an uninstall.

I got 2 errors during the repair so I am not sure if they are causing the issue or not.

1) Error occured loading C:\>>>> \inetcomm.dll. File may not have been installed or it has been corrupted.
2) similar to above but with an Outlook Express file

I did the repair again and I got all the same error messages.

This is fully legit copy of XP and it asked for my license key during the repair and took it no issues. The only thing I wonder is if it thinks I have maxed out my installs with this key. I had to call the 800 number on my other PC when it had to be reformated. Could this cause my error?

The only other thing I can think to try at this point is I have a disc where I slipstreamed my XP disc to include SP2 files. I am wondering if that will fix it?

Any help would be appreciated!

Hi - I have a requirement to run a search on file stores between specific dates to find out who has been creating files - I've used Search Companion and this produces the results however I need to get the output into an excel file. The "save search" option only save the search criteria and not the info found - is there something simple I'm missing or should I be doing it anther way or am I 2d2uc's.

Upgrading PC with Windows XP Pro RETAIL

Hi,

I have a RETAIL box version of Windows XP Pro which I have installed on my self-built PC. The PC is now about 3 years old and I wish to upgrade 90% of the parts (keeping only the LCD monitor and DVD burner).

Is the windows xp pro retail box license is a machine license or user license? I may be able to find answer by reading it through and figure it out but I hope it's a lot faster to get answer here.

What I plan to do is either:

a. Totally remove Windows XP installation on the old PC & hard drive (including formatting the old HDD) and dispose the old PC as parts without the operating system, and get a whole new motherboard, cpu, HDD for the new PC and reinstall my retail Windows XP on the new PC and go through all the XP SP2 updates etc...

b. Move my whole content of old Hard Drive including installation of Windows XP to my new hard drive, then format the old Hard Drive and sell it as parts. The new hard drive will be installed in the NEW PC and the rest of the parts of the old PC will also be sold as parts..

Either way the old PC will be sold; either as a set or as separate parts without the OS. Am I allowed to do that or once the XP is installed on the old machine it has to go with that machine and I have to buy another retail box version for my new PC?

I know some software particularly GPS navigation like SmartST Navman is a device licensed software which means if I upgrade my old PDA/PocketPC and buy a faster new PocketPC, the software has to go with the old device, and I have to get a new software for the new device.

Hey guys,

Before I start my post, I want to make it clear that this post should remain a discussion, and not a arguing session or a chance to attack any companies.

Now, I love Microsoft software - and being a genuine owner makes me feel a lot safer using the computer, however it disheartens me when I see that so many offers are given to United States users, whereas Australian users are usually let out of the equation.

For instance, the Power Together offer was a brilliant chance for users to learn about Microsoft software, then tell and teach others about the software. They also received a free full version copy - however, this offer was for the US only.

Then you come to the Windows Marketplace, where I have found replacement discs for sale - however, once again, only United States users can purchase these physical discs.

Then you come to the Buy Local offer, where users who buy a pc with Windows, Office or server preinstalled can receive free gifts, including a pack with software, wireless routers, printers, gift cards and hard drives. This is brilliant, however.. only United States users can receive these gifts.

Now I keep being told that Microsoft would "consider" us during the next update, however I have seen updates being made to a lot of these promotions.. but not with the inclusion of Australia.

And, take particular interest to the Windows Marketplace - I want to spend money purchasing this disc, however no matter what I do and who I ask, no-one can put me in the right direction. Support has lead me to a page to order them in the US only, and I have found the Windows Marketplace that will only sell to US users.

So, why is it that Australian users, and might I add other users not in the US, seem to be continually left out of these brilliant offers that Microsoft have to offer? Why is it I can't even have the chance to spend money on the Windows Marketplace and order these discs?

(If a support member is able to organise this to be sent to me in Australia, please let me know as I will be more than pleased - I have been looking for months, with heaps of emails to Microsoft never replied to and live support requests that leave me in the wrong direction).

I have a Laptop and a PC. I purchased both from their respective manufactures,Laptop in 2004 and the PC in 06.
I never knew anything about the Genuineness of my software, i wasn't aware that my PC has a non-genuine Windows and Office pre-installed.

Let me see how concise I can make this for everyone's sake:

1) First things first: I am working in an office environment where the option of a clean install is NOT an option. I am only the IT guy and they are telling me that a clean install is NOT an option. My only "final" recourse (and I mean, only if I absolutely have to), I can make one system a fresh install, put all of the required software back on and then clone it.

2) I have a bunch of beige box systems from a vendor called "Network Access Systems." They were installed with OEM copies of Windows 2000 from the warehouse. Now, we would like to upgrade these machines to XP Professional.

3) We have bought a volume license key and appropriate licenses for Windows XP Professional and have done this upgrade on almost 30 other machines in the office (they are Gateways with OEM 2000 installs).

4) For some reason, whenever we use the exact same CDs from the other upgrades to try an upgrade on one of the beige boxes, the installer crashes half-way through the install leaving a wonderful endless boot loop. The computer blue-screens, and before I can read the message, it reboots. On 2 separate beige boxes, this is the case, so it is not a one-time fluke.

I am at wits end trying to figure out why these machines won't upgrade. The vendor I mentioned above says that because it is an OEM install, we can not do an upgrade from that. But from every other source, including my experiences with the Gateway machines in the office, I should be able to do the upgrade. I know it would be a problem if my XP disc was OEM, but it is not. It is a Volume License disc that was provided with the licenses.

If anyone has any insight on a solution, or at least a way for me to catch the blue-screen so I can post it for clarification, PLEASE let me know! I am desperate for a solution here! This is the LAST time I let this company buy from a beige box vendor!

XP Pro install fails with COA product Key

I have a computer with a valid COMPAQ-labeled (in black) COA stuck to the side. The sticker is valid for either (one-time choice) Windows XP Pro or Windows 2000 Pro (has 2 product keys). I can't find the original CD, if in fact I ever had it (too many computers to keep track). I upgraded to a bigger hard drive when the old one flaked out, and when I went to install XP from a retail CD, the install process would not accept the product key on the COA attached to the computer I'm upgrading with a new hard drive (no other changes). I can't use the retail key, because the OS from that disk is installed on another PC, and you only get to use the same key once. That's fine, because I have a different key on the computer I'm upgrading, so I have two licenses that are valid. But I can't proceed beyone the key verification screen, because the install process says the key is invalid. It's not - it's right there on the COA. What gives? I have a real MS Windows XP Pro cd, a real MS COA on the computer I'm upgrading, a real XP Product key on same, but I can't install XP because it says invalid key. I'm not going to buy another copy of XP when I already paid for a valid license on the Compaq when I bought it; I shouldn't have to pay MS twice for the same thing. Any idea how to fix this?
