I was constantly disconnected and put on hold, but waited patiently and without complaint to assure them that I meant no harm! they felt that I called for the first time the whole week when I called 5 times+. eventually I came to one who gave me a case number and then sent me up to higher tech support powers until I got to a good fellow named Kel now this person was either canadian or american but I about dropped to my knees to thank God himself. He did a remote access to my computer but right before this happned my computer did an Auto shutdown and restarted which I brushed aside thinking that it was the virus, and hey I am dealing with it. Now Kel did a remote access to my computer also fixing and deleteing some stuff in my registries and found the virus that I had was actually a 3 part trojan attaching itself to Java's cache. it was removed. I thanked him he admired my wallpaper we hung up and left. only to find that my firefox was still redirecting me.... also that when I restarted my computer I couldn't boot into windows. But also that the operating system was trashed and I had to find a floppy drive and disk to flash my bios. LOL? which is odd because I take very good care of my pc and spend the money it needs to keep it running smoothly. I reformatted the hard drive which is why I am able to write this post. but at the same time all my programs are stuck on backup which failed to load back onto my HD and half installed america online (I'm thinking is this possible) again along with my now chaotic registries I mean it just sits in my system toolbar unmoveable... Atleast I got some of my video files and music right?... I now have the option to get an upgrade pack for windows 7 for 29.99. I'm like well atleast I can have a working computer for school :D? since I'm a student I do not have much money and I run the windows 7 upgrade advisor to find out most of my stuff including my sound hardware and drivers are incompatible with it D:? and it is (if possible) a pain in the rear to fix. also that now I can only use windows for 30 days because I do not have a product key for this, the hardrive was prebuilt and I no longer have the old product key this came with so basically I am screwed thanks to your &quot;support&quot; and lack of it and was wondering &lt;&lt;&lt;how you were going to fix this&gt;&gt;&gt; because I am a very disatisfied customer who worked hard for his money to get the things you guys recommend all the time to get my computer working correctly but infact your products and tech support are worth as much as belly button lint. I went through all the normal troubleshooting steps such as uninstalling, updating drivers, reinstalling, but all to no avail, (it would scan and copy, but not print). The DELL website has no WINDOWS 7 drivers for this printer. They suggest trying the VISTA drivers, but with no guarantees.</p> <p style="margin-bottom:0in"> </p> <p style="margin-bottom:0in">At this point I figured it was probably time to upgrade my printer anyway, since it was about 4 or 5 years old. I started searching for a new one online, but could not really determine if the printers I was potentially interested in, would work with WINDOWS 7. One of the printers that caught my interest was at the MICROSOFT store online. It was a high end HP network printer for a relatively good price. I figured, why not just call the MICROSOFT store with the phone number provided, and ask the question. So I did.</p> <p style="margin-bottom:0in"> </p> <p style="margin-bottom:0in">Now for the chain of events to follow, Sunday, 11/8/09:</p> <p style="margin-bottom:0in"> </p> <p style="margin-bottom:0in">I call the MICROSOFT store. After going through 5 minutes of pressing buttons, I get connected to someone. I tell him that I have a question about one of the printers they have on sale, and ask him if it will work with WINDOWS 7. He then asks me “What laptop are you interested in purchasing?” I said that I just have a question about a printer. I repeat the model number, and ask the question again. I’m fairly sure that he had no idea what WINDOWS 7 was, but after getting it through his head the question I was asking, he said, “I don’t know, hold on, and I will try to find out”. OK, that was acceptable, so I held on. After a few minutes, he came back on the line and said, “I assure you that this printer will work. I said great, I’ll order it online now. He then said, “I can take care of that for you now”. I said ok, lets do it.</p> <p style="margin-bottom:0in"> </p> <p style="margin-bottom:0in">After he asks me for my information, I tell him that I am already in their system, since I did buy the WINDOWS 7 upgrades from the MICROSOFT store. He tells me that when placing a new order, the process has to be repeated. OK, so I <strong>ever so clearly</strong> give him my name, address, and credit card information. He then asks for the security code on the card. He assures me that my information is safe, so I give it to him. Almost done now right? Get this, my VISA card did not go through. This happens every now and then, due to the heightened security that US BANK imposes. I can understand that. I said that I’ll give him another card to use. He told me that he canceled the order, and we can start over. I again <strong>ever so clearly</strong> repeat all my information, including the security code on my BOA MASTERCARD. BINGO – the order goes through. The next step was to receive the confirmation email.</p> <p style="margin-bottom:0in"> </p> <p style="margin-bottom:0in">The confirmation email:</p> <p style="margin-bottom:0in"> </p> <p style="margin-bottom:0in">While still on the phone with the PHD at the MICROSOFT store, the confirmation email does come as promised. I open the email, only to find that the idiot misspelled my shipping address. He friggin put down DOONTON TOWNSHIP instead of BOONTON TOWNSHIP. WHAT THE ____?! I told him he typed in the wrong address, it’s BOONTON, not DOONTON. Please fix it now while I’m on the phone with you. He says he will cancel the order, and we can do it again. I said ok. We start again, and he asks me for my information. What the ____, didn’t I just give all of it to him?? No, we had to start all over again. I <strong>ever so clearly</strong>, again give him all my information, including the security code on my BOA MASTERCARD. All done now right? WRONG. He then tells me that my card was denied! At the same time I get an email of suspicious activity on my credit card. DAMN!!! I tell him, “OK, I HAVE HAD ENOUGH, JUST CANCEL THE ORDER! Too late, moments later, I get another order confirmation email from the MICROSOFT store. While still on the phone with the numbskull, I open the second email. Get this – IT SAYS DOONTON TOWNSHIP, NOT BOONTON TOWNSHIP. The idiot made the same mistake again. I said, “CANCEL EVERYTHING, and send me an email saying all is canceled! I couldn’t take it much longer. I was starting to twitch. I’m on the phone for 45 minutes, I have problems with my credit card, and I still don’t have a printer. He then tells me, “I can assure you that there will be no charges to your credit card, and the orders are canceled”. “Within 24 hours you will you will be receiving an email confirming that the order is canceled”. Before hanging up on the nitwit, he asks me, “Is there anything else I can help you with?” I told him, “No, you’ve done enough”.</p> <p style="margin-bottom:0in"> </p> <p style="margin-bottom:0in">My call to Bank Of America:</p> <p style="margin-bottom:0in"> </p> <p style="margin-bottom:0in">I had to then follow up on the suspicious activity email I had just received from Bank of America. I called the 800 number in the email. After 10 minutes of pressing buttons, and listening to every option but the one I needed, I was finally connected to a real person, so to speak. I explained the relatively unbelievable process I had just gone through, and asked if he could wipe out that charge. (I did verify online that I was charged for the first transaction. Apparently pea brain couldn’t pull it back fast enough, but he did “assure me”, that it was canceled) He told me that there was nothing he could do about it. He said that the only way he could remove the charge, was if I had the MICROSOFT store call him. CALL HIM? How is that possible??? He wants me to call the MICROSOFT store back, go through 10 minutes of button pressing, somehow get the same idiot on the phone, and then have that idiot call Bank Of America, go through 10 minutes of button pressing, and wind up talking to this same helpful person. I’d have a better chance of winning the lottery than pulling that one off. I told him, “Thanks for the help” Maybe I’m not a good enough customer. I only have banked there for about 20 years.</p> <p style="margin-bottom:0in"> </p> <p style="margin-bottom:0in">At this point, I was just hoping that things would fall into place, the order would be canceled as promised, my account would be credited, and I can go on with my life for the balance of my Sunday. (Without a printer)</p> <p style="margin-bottom:0in"> </p> <p style="margin-bottom:0in">Monday, 11/9/09:</p> <p style="margin-bottom:0in"> </p> <p style="margin-bottom:0in">With my blood pressure easing up a bit after a good nights sleep, I decide that now is the time to order that printer. (Not at the MICROSOFT store of course). I find the same printer at another web site, for close to the same price, just a few dollars more, and order it. Great, job done, and I will have it by the weekend.</p> <p style="margin-bottom:0in"> </p> <p style="margin-bottom:0in">I then open my email as usual. I still do not see any cancelation email from the MICROSOFT store, as I was promised. I figured that I better call them again, just to verify that all is well, and my order is cancelled. I call the number from my mobile phone, (the same phone that I used when originally calling MICROSOFT), and get a message saying that AT&amp;T does not allow calling this number. What, I just called the day before with this phone? Not to make a big deal about it, I make the call from my work phone. After pressing a bunch of buttons, I get connected with a person. I gave her the Readers Digest version of what happened the day before. She looked into it, and told me that the order was still in process. WHAT! She said that the printer is scheduled to ship to me, (in DOONTON TOWNSHIP). I said can you stop it, it was supposed to have been canceled? After a few minutes, she told me that the order is canceled, and I will get a confirmation email to that effect. She said it would take a few days before the cancellation would be wiped off of my Bank Of America account, but assured me that it would. She seemed to know what she was doing, so I thanked her, and figured all would be ok.</p> <p style="margin-bottom:0in"> </p> <p style="margin-bottom:0in">Tuesday, 11/10/09:</p> <p style="margin-bottom:0in"> </p> <p style="margin-bottom:0in">I see a new email from the MICROSOFT store. It’s a return authorization email. What’s that all about? If the order was canceled, why would they send me a return authorization?</p> <p style="margin-bottom:0in">It also said that I would be getting another email with instructions for printing out a pre paid UPS shipping label. Moments later, another email pops up, from the MICROSOFT store. IT’S A SHIPPING NOTIFICATION!!!!! The order was not stopped!! It was shipped out to DOONTON NJ, and if it somehow makes it to BOONTON NJ, I have no UPS shipping label to ship it back with. The charge was not erased from my Bank Of America account, because they shipped it!!!</p> <p style="margin-bottom:0in"> </p> <p style="margin-bottom:0in">At this point, what is a sane person to do? I now have 2 printers on the way. (1 to Boonton, and 1 to Doonton), I only needed 1. I don’t think I have the patience to call the MICROSOFT store again. I have no pre paid UPS shipping label for returning the printer to MICROSOFT. I just want to know if one person at a time could log on to windows live mail. Every time I open windows live mail I have to put my password and my wifes password in. In outlook express a box would appear so you could pick the email account you wanted to open. I believe not many employees that work for microsoft even now the program. I find this to be a horrendous problem. When trying to drag my game icons from the folders where the shortcuts belong I have encountered a large glaring problem. The shortcut will move to the Games folder but the icon disappear leaving in it's place the icon generally used for the GameLanucher.exe which is a horribly ugly icon! Not to mention this icon now exsists for something like 20 game shortcuts in my menu. When I drag the shortcut's they are properly named and set with the right icons yet when they reach the Games Explorer they revert to the ugly image of the GameLauncher.exe files. Clicking on the Start button or moving a window will cause both screens to start blanking and redrawing repeatedly. This normally happens after the computer has been sitting idle for some time but sometimes it happens right after booting. I had to turn off the screen saver because it would always lockup the screens after a short time. I've updated the video drivers but that made no difference. The system has not had the OS reloaded from scratch sense the computer was new two years ago from Dell.
