    Hi,

A short time ago I'm receiving a Genuine Advantage notification that my software is not legitimate, when starting Office 2007 applications. I have been using it a couple of years now, I did buy it back then. What could be the problem?

    See below for the diagnostics:

    Hello dhmderuiter,

Here is a snippet of your mgadiag report:

    OGA Data-->
    Office Status: 103 Blocked VLK
Microsoft Office Visio Professional 2003 - 100 Genuine
Microsoft Office Professional Plus 2007 - 103 Blocked VLK
    Microsoft Expression Web 2 - 121

Your current installation of Office Professional Plus 2007 is a Volume Licensing installation, and the installation was done with a now-blocked Volume Licensing Product Key (VLK).

Blocked VLK means that the product key used to install Office Professional Plus 2007 was, at one time, a genuine product key originally issued to a business, educational, or government entity.  However, in cooperation with the original keyholder, the key has been blocked by Microsoft from further use, and that could be for many reasons: it was leaked to the internet, lost, or stolen from the entity; the entity no longer has a valid VL agreement in effect with Microsoft; or Microsoft has noticed much more use of the key that the agreement allows for.

This installation is what is creating the notice about nongenuine Office software.

Your other Office family program, Visio 2003, is reporting as a genuine retail license, which is exactly what an individual consumer should see on their report.

If you are an individual consumer, you should never have been sold Volume Licensing materials such as a VL CD, and you certainly should not have received a Blocked Product Key.

Your first course of action is to confront your seller with this information and demand either a full refund or to receive the genuine software you paid for.

If the seller refuses to help, please file a piracy report at
www.microsoft.com/piracy.  Also, depending upon whether you received "high quality" counterfeit materials, you may qualify for the Office Complimentary Offer or for the Office Genuine Advantage discounted offer.  Please see the FAQ here:  http://www.microsoft.com/genuine/downloads/FAQ.aspx?displaylang=en#ID0EKNAC

One other possibility is that at one time your computer did have a Genuine installation of Office installed, but for some reason it was replaced with the current installation which is nongenuine.  This could have happened if you took your computer to a repair shop and they reinstalled Windows and/or some or all of your programs.  You Get Genuine once again by uninstalling the current nongenuine installation of Office and using your Genuine Microsoft hologrammed Office installation CDs, along with the genuine Product Key found on your Office Edition's Certificate of Authenticity, to put back the genuine installation of Office you may have already had on the computer.

    Hi,

    Thanks for the advice.

I have tried your suggestions, but I haven't receive an answer from the seller. Therefore I reported the case at www.microsoft.com/piracy, but also there I don't receive any answer.

Can you suggest any other options for me?
I'd still like to use Office 2007, but these Genuine Advantage messages are really annoying when working with the programs. I understand that people with nongenuine versions should get these messages, but because I have a perfectly legal copy it's becoming very irritating as you probably can imagine.

I hope you can offer me a solution.

    Kind regards,
    M. de Ruiter

    Hello dhmderuiter,

You wrote, "but because I have a perfectly legal copy it's becoming very irritating as you probably can imagine."

Unfortunately, your copy is not legal at all, it's a nongenuine installation of Office.

Your options are covered in the section of the FAQ that I linked.

If you purchased what was advertised as, and what looked like, a retail package or OEM license kit Office Professional 2007, and ended up with materials that installed this nongenuine volume licensing installation of Office Professional Plus 2007, you may qualify for a free replacement from Microsoft, or at least a discount on a genuine copy of Office purchased directly from Microsoft.

Compare what you purchased to the counterfeit materials shown at www.howtotell.com, and if you did receive high quality counterfeits, you can apply for the complimentary replacement by following the "Learn More Online" link that is in the nongenuine notices that you are seeing on your screen.
