  • Office Product Activation FAQ

Stephen Holm Tuesday, March 31, 2009 11:26 PM
    Valued Customers,

Most licenses allow for software to be re-installed and activated on the same PC an unlimited number of times. Please see your End User License Agreement (EULA) or product use rights for details on a specific product to ensure that you are using your license properly.

If you are receiving the error "...the number of times you can activate Office with this product key has been exceeded" while trying to Activate over the Internet, please see the below information:

Automatic online activation will be suspended after a certain number of activations within a certain time period, (This may also happen the first time you re-install and activate some OEM versions of Office), which will require that you do a Telephone Activation. Please rerun the Activate Windows Wizard and select "Activate my product using the telephone".  Follow the phone prompts.

If the automated telephone activation is not accepted, you will be offered the option to speak with a live activation representative.  Choose that option.  The representative will ask a few questions for the purpose of confirming that you are still using your license for Office in accordance with the EULA.  If this is confirmed, the representative will issue an activation code for you to enter into the Activation Wizard.

  • Changing Product Keys for Office XP, Office 2003, and 2007

Stephen Holm Tuesday, March 31, 2009 11:29 PM
    Valued Customer's

Changing product keys for MS Office versions will require users to make changes within the registry.  Knowledge Base article 895456 located @ http://support.microsoft.com/default.aspx/kb/895456/en-us will provide a step by step process for changing your product keys.

*WARNING* Serious problems might occur if you modify the registry incorrectly by using Registry Editor or by using another method. These problems might require that you reinstall your operating system. Microsoft cannot guarantee that these problems can be solved. It is recommended you back up the registry prior making any changes. As added measures of caution, have all critical files backed up in case the system crashes and/or the registry could not be restored from your backup.  Modify the registry at your own risk. NOTE:  If you try to open any Office programs after you complete the steps, you receive a message that prompts you for a valid product key.  Please re-post here if you need further assistance. Have a great day!!!

  • Converting Office Trial to Full Version

Stephen Holm Tuesday, March 31, 2009 11:35 PM
    Valued Customers,

Recently there have been questions about various Office 2007 trial versions. The majority of inquiries are from customers who have trial versions of pre-installed Office 2007 Suites on either a recently purchased laptop or desktop. Office 2007 trial versions may be installed by the system manufacture allowing customers to test drive the latest technology of MS Office products. After the trial period has expired customers are afforded an opportunity for purchasing a product key that will convert the trial version to a fully functional product. Please follow these steps to convert your Microsoft Office System trial product to perpetual use with no uninstall or reinstall necessary.

Step 1: Get perpetual product key and start conversion process

Obtain the Microsoft Office System product at any retailer or online to get a perpetual product key. After you have obtained your perpetual product you have two options to start the conversion process:

    1.      In any of the Microsoft Office trial expiration reminder messages, click Convert.

    2.      For Access, Excel, PowerPoint, or Word: Click the Microsoft Office Button, click "Program Name" Options, click Resources, and click Activate.

For InfoPath, OneNote, Outlook, Publisher, Project, or Visio:  Click the Help menu, click Activate Product, and follow the instructions in the Activation Wizard.

Note   To avoid uninstalling the trial if you obtain the full product version at retail, the full product version should be the same version and language as the trial software. For example, if the trial software is 2007 Microsoft Office Home and Student English, the full product version should be 2007 Microsoft Office Home and Student English as well. If the full product version is a different language version, you will have to uninstall the trial and manually install the full product version.
