Have you been using any form of Registry cleaner or optimiser? The easiest way to fix this problem is probably to uninstall and reinstall the WAT Update KB971033Please try first uninstalling the WAT Update KB971033 from Installed Updates, and then reinstalling it using the download from http://support.microsoft.com/kb/971033 - you'll need the 64-bit versiononce done, reboot twice, and validate at www.microsoft.com/genuine/validateThe post back with the validation results and a new MGADiag report.

Uhh, thanks for the reply. I tried the steps above and I think the problem somehow escalated. First of all, the removal of KB971033 did not complete for some unknown reason. In addition, it seems that the list of the installed updates is gone. Second, I could download the standalone KB971033 but it does not complete installation. Moreover, it says something like I can only install updates if my copy is genuine. What do I do now?Have you been using any form of Registry cleaner or optimiser? The easiest way to fix this problem is probably to uninstall and reinstall the WAT Update KB971033Please try first uninstalling the WAT Update KB971033 from Installed Updates, and then reinstalling it using the download from http://support.microsoft.com/kb/971033 - you'll need the 64-bit versiononce done, reboot twice, and validate at www.microsoft.com/genuine/validateThe post back with the validation results and a new MGADiag report. -

SOmething odd here :(
Please run a full CHKDSK and SFC scan....
type in the Search box
CMD.EXE
right-click on the only file that is found
Select Run as Administrator
- the Elevated Command Prompt window should pop up
At the Command prompt, type
CHKDSK C: /R
and hit the Enter key.
You will be told that the drive is locked,
and the CHKDSK will run at he next boot - hit the Y key, and then reboot.
The chkdsk will take a few hours depending on the size
of the drive, so be patient! After the CHKDSK has run, Windows should boot normally
(possibly after a second auto-reboot) - then run the SFCSFC -System File Checker - Instructions
Click on the Start button
type in the Search box
CMD.EXE
right-click on the only file that is foundSelect Run as Administrator
- the Elevated Command Prompt window should pop up
At the Command prompt, typeSFC /SCANNOW
and hit the Enter key
Wait for the scan to finish - make a note of any error messages - and then reboot.
Post an MGADiag report with details of any error messages encountered.Noel Paton | Nil Carborundum Illegitemi | CrashFixPC | The Three-toed Sloth

Well, it still doesn't show the list for the updates I've installed. Did all the steps and here are the results:

I know I've seen that problem somewhere - were you using Firefox at the time? If so, try again with IE.
(I'll have a search to see if I can find the hole in my memory<g>)

Ah - I remember - that usually means that you've downloaded the wrong version (e.g. 32-bit instead of 64bit).
I wonder if your User Agent String is lying to the site?
Go here http://www.useragentstring.com/ and seewhat your UAS is. copy and paste the contents of the string box in your response. (it should include 'WOW64' )
Download the WAT update again and try to install it again. (you may have had a corrupted one last time)

That looks pretty much the same as mine
All I really needed was the stuff from the box at the top - mine said
Mozilla/4.0 (compatible; MSIE 7.0; Windows NT 6.0; SLCC1; .NET CLR 2.0.50727; Media Center PC 5.0; .NET CLR 3.0.30729)
(running in IE 32 in Vista)
Mozilla/5.0 (compatible; MSIE 9.0; Windows NT 6.1; Win64; x64; Trident/5.0; MAAU)
(running IE 64 in Win7)
:)
System Restore will uninstall any updates installed between 'now' and the date restored to - but is should be a clean job, and as far as I know it does nothing to the Updates History, and will only remove affected updates from the Installed Updates listings.
On that count, you may want to have a look at what updates are missing - install Belarc Advisor (www.belarc.com - it's free) and see what it has to say.
I need to think about the KB971033 problem - it may simply be a case of needing to rename the SoftwareDistribution folder (but don't do anything yet!)

Ouch - was that because of the missing updates, or what (they are listed)Please post a new MGADiag report so we can check what has/hasn't changed

I see that you have McAfee totally disabled at the moment?
The other results look normal.
What other AV's have ever been installed on this machine since the last reformat/reinstall?
What was the original AV that was pre-installed (assuming there was one)?

Sunday, June 10, 2012 2:31 PMWell, the McAfee got preinstalled with it. I had it disabled primarily since its license has expired. Aside from this, it was unable to detect certain threats so I disabled it to prevent conflicts with NOD32.

Sunday, June 10, 2012 2:46 PMModerator
The problem with thaat is that just disabling it doesn't release all the thousands of hooks that it has into the system - and this can result in unpredictable behaviour.
You need to uninstall it completely - starting by using the Control Panel Programs & Features listing.
Once that has run, and you've rebooted, download and run the MCPR tool to get rid of the rest of it....
http://service.mcafee.com/FAQDocument.aspx?lc=1033&id=CS41013
reboot again (whether it asks for it or not)
Now check that this hasn't disturbed NOD32 at all - if it has, then uninstall that, run its cleanup tool as well, and then reinstall it.
Then post another MGADiag report.

Well, completely uninstalled McAfee and below is the new MGA report. How is the thing below different from the previous ones?

Well, the same thing about the update not being applicable is displayed for both. And again, after a while the message "This copy......" showed up. Also, I could check for updates but it says "There are no updates available for your computer."

From your MGA Report: TimeZone>China Standard Time
Are you located in China? If not, please reset your location in the BIOS and within Windows 7. Make sure the date and time are also set correctly.
Then visit Genuine Microsoft Software – Diagnostic Site anc click on Validate Windows and then restart your computer.
Run another MGA Report and post it here. Thank you!

Well, there was something surprising that happened. Before I turned my notebook off yesterday, there was the "This copy..." message. Now, after turning it up the pic below popped. Oddly, the update list still doesn't show even now.
