Windows 7 Build 7600 / This copy of Windows is not genuine
-

My copy is genuine. The problem is that I am getting the message in the lower right hand corner. I used the upgrade disc to upgrade from my OEM vista on my laptop. I recently got my laptop repaired and HP replaced the harddrive, so when I got the laptop back I was back to Vista. I upgraded again and windows used my OEM key from vista and said it was accepted at install. Now apparantly I do not have a genuine copy.
What happens in these cases when I upgrade with the same OEM key that windows 7 used to activate the first time. It was beyong my control...

Your computer is an HP laptop using a dell key and emulated dell bios marker. Basicly your computer is using a loader to trick windows into thinking it is installed on a Dell with an SLP 2.1 marker but WAT has detected the loader or crack. You will need to uninstall the loader, install a valid key and then revalidate to fix the problem. Alternativly you can revert to windows vista using recovery media or the recovery image, observe the screen during startup, it may tell your to press a specific button to start a restoration.
Thanks

What????? How in the heack can this be possible? I mean how does DELL get associated with my HP laptop? Did HP install the loader when they replaced the hard drive, or was this as a result of changing the hard drive? What should I do next to ressolve this?
I purchased my laptop brand new.

Unfortunately there are autoactivating dvd's floating around the internet. If you purchased off of ebay or amazon or from an untrusted source then it is likely you got one of these. Also unfortunatly bogus software occasionaly makes it into the stock of legitimate vendors. If you have your reciepts for the windows product then take it back to the vendor.Another possibility is that you had a friend install your windows and they took a shortcut or two to get windows up and running, in that case the above does not apply.

Hello ghostrider06,
You wrote, "I used the upgrade disc to upgrade from my OEM vista on my laptop."
Right now the HP computer you upgraded from Vista has an installation of Windows 7 Ultimate license that is only supposed to be installed on a Dell computer.
Could you be more specific as to how you acquired the upgrade disc you used? Did you borrow it from a buddy with a Dell, or did you purchase the disc from a store or perhaps an online seller? Does the disc look like agenuine Microsoft hologrammed disc, or is it a common "burned" disc?
