I have a tablet computer with Windows XP for tablets that is DEAD (the hard drive and/or computer cpu actually started burning...a real fire). I would like to get a new tablet and would like to transfer the XP tablet OS to the new tablet. How can I do that?
Thanks for your help,
Rob Knight

Hello Rob Knight,
Just make sure the new computer comes with an OEM license for Windows 7 Professional or Utimate, or Windows Vista Business or Ultimate. OEM licenses are permitted downgrade rights.
So strictly speaking you won't be "transfering" the old XP Tablet license to the new computer, because that is not permitted. Instead, you will be installing XP Tablet as a downgrade from the license for W7 or WVista that comes with the new computer.

Unfortunately, only OEM versions of Windows 7 Professional may be downgraded to Windows XP Professional only and not Windows XP Tablet Edition. Thus, you cannot transfer the current Windows XP Tablet Edition OEM operating system to another tablet PC. That license died along with the old tablet PC, sorry!
