Hello-

I am now getting the message "This copy of Windows is not activated" every time at the log in screen.

The first time I received this message, about a week ago, I went to the Windows site and activated my Windows again. I thought I had already activated my WinXP Pro win I installed it a couple years ago, but what the heck, right? But now I still get the message every time. I continued to the activation process again just to be sure, and it shows it has already been activated. According to another post from 2007, I ran MGADiag.exe program and it also shows "Genuine".

I was in the process of removing a virus I had on my computer and when I rebooted, it says that my copy of windows isn't genuine. I've had this computer for a couple of years now and never had this happen. I purchased it at a rent a center place and then had the hardrive replaced at a computer shop where they had to reintall everything again. Now that I got this virus and try to clean my computer, i get this message. What should I do. Here is the log from the diagnostic tool.

Have key but not original cd or oem code

Hello,

I lost my original xp home cd and the oem sticker (silly me, I never attached it to my tower) but I have my key. A friend of mine told me that as long as I had my CD key, I could use someone else's XP Home CD. Well, I tried that and got as far as entering the key code, which I did but it told me it was an invalid ID. Now I have a computer with XP Home partially installed, but not up and running. The CD I originally had and the CD I borrowed are both XP Home SP 2. The only thing I can think of is that the CD I borrowed came with the computer, well, kind of. I got taken to a shop to have XP installed and they provided him with the actual XP home disk. So, any suggestions?

ridiculous to be forced to activate from using msconfig

On a pc with problem, I want to diagnose with msconfig. the momemt I was done with msconfig and reboot, I was ask to activate immediately!

add insulat to injury, the Maps license and the corresponding key on longer allow me to activate bia intenet or auto phone answer due to too many probem pc (9) being replaced or re-installed recently.
Final insult: operatoer were not available since Sat.

I don't mind WGA as long as it does not give false repsonse. When it interrupts production system, it's not only frustrating for me but may end up costing microsoft loyal customers

there should be a mechanism to retire a pc and free up the activation for new OS or some other means of allowing use of deployment single image up to specified number PC running

Hello, I just reinstalled again, as I have done many times before due to various reasons over the past 2 years and have never had a problem verifying that my copy of Windows is valid until now.
This laptop came from a respected retailer with Windows XP already installed, and prompted me to make backup DVD's for future re-installation which I did. I have never given these discs to anybody else to use, and they are still in perfect condition.
The BIOS clock is in sync with my location (GMT+10:00), as is the clock in my taskbar, and I don't believe it is the internal battery as the clock never resets. I sync the clock with the internet, it gives me a msg saying that it failed, but then leaves a msg that it was successfully synced at that time.
I did re-arrange the RAM and take the battery, and internal battery out, then put it all back together again, because whatever was wrong with my laptop before wouldn't even let me re-install until I did this. It would just reset on startup even if i attempted to boot in safe mode, and give me an error like DRIVER_IRQL_NOT_LESS_OR_EQUAL, among other errors, although this is beside the point.
Everything else is fine and passes the WGA online tests. This is extremely frustrating, I will find a new battery when i can, maybe in a few days, although I don't believe it is the problem. If you can assure me that it IS the problem then I will make sure I do this sooner. The time and year are correct, I have checked this countless times.
Did the internal battery die exactly when I reinstalled?
I'm sure I can run out the main battery and it will still retain the correct time, in fact, I will do this now.
I just want to upgrade to service pack 3 etc.
Any help would be appreciated, this is a bad time to be happening right now.
Also I have reinstalled twice today and the same thing happens. I just don't understand why it says the clock is wrong when I can clearly see it is right, I have selected the right location, etc.

XP SP3 issue

Hello,

I brought my laptop into Best Buy to have a new HD installed and a VISTA Ultimate (current OS) XP Pro dual boot setup. I have a couple of XP Pro product keys fro dead systems that they tried to use. Unfortunately they nstalled a SP3 version of XP which will not accept my earlier XP keys. How do I fix this issue short of buying a SP3 version of XP?

Recently i have tried to reinstall Windows XP to my computer, however the CD key I received through the MSDAA is no longer being accepted. I am using the same CD and CD key I received through the program however it gets rejected during installation. Is there anything that may cause this to happen. There have been no hardware changes to my computer in a few years. I have been running a XP/Ubuntu dual boot for a little over a year with 2 successful reinstalls of XP in that time. I have tried removing the Linux OS and reinstalling XP with the same results.

The CD and CD key are both for Windows XP Professional.

Hi, you have locked my thread, so I have started a new one.

I have now purchased Windows XP Home Edition OEM Software.

However, when I put the disc in the drive, the Activate Windows option still comes up, rather than the computer trying to read the disc in the drive.

I can't validate my copy of windows XP!

It's legit, and I have a number on the bottom of my laptop. I bought a used laptop, and tried to re-install Windows XP with an old Gateway disc. Is this the reason for the conflict? It won't accept the number, and I'm running out of time!

Okay so basically Ive been hung up on by almost everyone got one guy asked for a supervisor i got a supervisor on the phone he said that i would need to email sbcreplacement@msdirectservices.com they told me they couldnt help me and that i need to contact a number called that number they couldnt help me, they told me to call a different number so i called today and got told i need to speak to a local rep in my area and once he transferred me i got some weird message machine.
Ive tired activating by phone Ive tried everything it seems like this entire company is giving me the run around . I work in customer service and by far I've had the worst service with microsoft ever, hopefully I can get an answer here as to why I'm not receiving a new product key, its not my fault the sticker for it was put on the bottom of my computer so over the last two years its been rubbed away from friction (obviously). I bought my computer I've never restalled windows xp professional until now this is my business computer that I work from home with and no one has seemed to care that I know have to drive 2 hours there and back each day to my office because of this issue not to mention the 2 days I wasnt able to work trying to fix this issue loosing money ect that I need to live with.

I got flagged with Microsoft Genuine advantage with my old Windows XP and I bought a new Windows XP CD online and I can not figure out how to replace the old version with the new version. I keep getting an alert when I try to run the new CD that that it can not run because the older version (is actually newer).

1) How do I boot from CD on my Dell?
2) How can I replace a newer version of Windows Xp with an older version?
3) Is there anyway to just type in the Windows Xp key and not do a reinstall and not get flagged by Microsoft Genuine advantage

I'm trying to help my neighbor get her PC running. They recently moved her from out of state, and just prior to moving, had their PC in the shop.
The PC boots up normally to the user log in screen. No matter whose profile you try clicking on, a message pops up saying that Windows needs to be activated, and asks if you want to register Windows now. I click 'yes' and the next screen says "Window is already activated" and takes you back to the log in screen. It's the same vicious circle, over and over.

To add to the confusion, when restarting the machine, and trying to log into Safe Mode, all the text is in Spanish. I can read Spanish, but only very s l o w l y ! Anybody know how to change the language of MS's scrolling 'opening credits'??

She's indicated that they could log in and use the computer for about a week after they got it back from the shop, then started getting the Activation messages.

Well, it's as it seems. I cannot download anything from Microsoft.com. Whenever I do, it tells me (on Firefox and Safari), that it cannot connect to the server "download.microsoft.com" and on IE, it says,

I have just upgraded a laptop from XP Home to XP Pro... clean install!

Went through the process installed put in a genuine windows license key (bought it from Tiger Direct). When it boots for first time it says I can not log-in with activating first, so I do... It then says my copy of windows is activated. SO... I get to the welcome screen and try to login and it comes up that my copy of windows must be activated with Microsoft before I can log on. Do I want to activate windows now. If I say yes I go through the process and it tells me I am already activated and the does it again and again etc... If I say no it just takes me to logon and go in circles again.

SO... no matter what I do I can not logon... so no Internet... no being able to look at properties or validate, or control panel NOTHING it stays at the logon!

WHat can I do here... I have reformatted 3 times.... It is an Acer 1640 laptop!

I purchased 20 copies of Windows XP Professional from various sources on eBay. All came with printed booklets, COA and hologrammed disks. When I installed the first one, it stated it was not genuine. So I prepared a list of all 20 keys and sent it off to the Microsoft Validation team and asked for confirmation of the validity of all the keys. I did this with the idea of getting my money back from suppliers. They thanked me for the submission but said they would not confirm or deny the validity of any of the listed keys.

If you want to improve this sytem (that is what this forum is for, right), provide some way to check keys for validity.

I have several computers. I needed to reload XP on one of them. All of the Windows XP CD's say the certificate of authenticity is posted on the computer. I picked a CD at random and installed it. Now I can't log on until I activate it (at first, I had thirty days, but then I corrected the date and time which skipped me ahead eight years). When I try to activate via the telephone (since I can't via the computer), the virtual person at Microsoft tells me they can't validate my product key. Is this because I used the wrong CD? If it is, how to I pick the correct one?

Hi i have a friends laptop and when i start the laptop it starts to boot then straight away ther is a message saying ( windows encountered a problem and needs to reboot ) the laptop then flashes and thier is a message that dissapears straight away then it starts to count down from 28 but then it starts the process all over again can anyone please help.

i found out i had validation problems because i went to update my computer for programs lik media player and adobe flash player; basically anything off the microsoft website i cant install anything. i get error 0x80070005. because it said i didnt have the correct permissions i went to the registry edit and made sure i had all the correct permissions, which i did so i didnt change anything. Now i went to a message group typed in the error code to see if anyone had this problem and people suggested that i validate the comp thats how the problem was solved for them. then a whole new problem arised which was validation problems with error 0x80080296 which i assume is why my permissions are messed up. Please tell me what i can do because the Windows XP OS disc i have is genuwine when i recieved it it was brand new sealed in the wrap. i cant remember where the product info is but i did have it once.

another problem that might be connected is on the server i guess its called says that there is a corrupt ip address on another comp which i assume is my comp. please help me idk wat to do i need my comp to work right for my job and internships

XP Professional on a Dell Dimension 8100

My Dell desk top runs but it is very slow and Explorer will not load. I have a free antivirus program which I ran. It did not find a virus. The CPU runs at 100 percent. I can access the task manager but do not know which programs could be stopped. It seems like programs are being started that are not needed. I could clean the hard drive and reinstall but I would lose some of my programs.

I have a number of XP machines, newly installed with OEM product keys never before used, boxes freshly opened and stickers stuck on the machines.
The installed Windows XP version is SP2, I can activate the machines fine, then when I log off and back on, I get stuck in an activation loop, that says I need to activate then, it says windows is already activated click ok which logs me off.
If I run MGAdiag it says it's genuine.
If I install SP3 this problem goes away, the machine logs on straight away with no loop and if I do msoobe /a it says it's already activated.
The media that came with the OEM keys is SP3, but I installed SP2 as I needed to run a particular application that currently is only validated for SP2.
Could it be that the key only works with SP3 installations?
I didn't think that service pack version played a part in the key, but would like to know if this is the case. At least then I can try and arrange for the application in question to be validated on SP3!

Phone number to activate doesn't work

I am running Windows Xp Home edition, and although I can connect to the internet; I can't for some reason activate windows. It give me an error message that says "can't connect to server".

Installation of Office Professional 2007 partly one two computers

I have installed Microsoft Office 2007 Standard Suite on one machine (OS: Window Vista) and since I needed Microsoft Access as well, I bought a MO Professioanal 2007 package an add only the access software to my machine, avoiding updation of all other softwares on my machine. Now I tried to install the rest of the software from MO Professional on another machine (Windows XP)-(excluding Access), but the installed office does not pass the Genuine Validataion test. Did I do something wrong. Thanks.

Hi there,

I have purchased on line XP Pro OEM software. I have not yet installed due to some questions. I am currently running XP home which came with my Dell computer in 2003, can I upgrade this by installing and following the prompts or do I need to back everything up to a CD, uninstall xp home and install this new xp pro opperating system? As a realtor I am depending on my computer for my business, I can not spare any downtime. What would you suggest?
