Currently, there are over 200+ apps in the English catalog with new apps being added every day. However, your locale as well as type of device (PPC or Smartphone) and device capabilities (D-Pad, GPS, etc.) can result in fewer applications being available. Marketplace applies catalog filtering to reduce the liklihood that incompatible apps will be downloaded to your phone.

Yeah i only have 42 as well.  Where do you live?  I hear it is location based.  I live in Edmonton, Alberta, Canada  and i know a few other canadians don't have the full amount of apps as well.  I have no idea why.

Right now I see 74 in the Games category by itself, so not sure how you are adding the total count to 42. :-)

Ah, makes sense you would only see apps supported for your device type/hardware and location..

My phone is only getting shown 4 apps or so, with half of them being French. With Marketplace's interface showing in french.

There is no way to change it to show the correct language.

And if stuff is also filtered out for device functionality, I sure hope they won't just check the device type and use that to list functionality.
My phone is officially by its manifacturer a Windows Mobile 6.1 Professional device.

I have semi legally upgraded it to Windows Mobile 6.5 (meaning, not the XDA-Developers way) but as a legal WinMo dev who is working on 6.5 devices for future release.
Since Marketplace officially is only for Windows Mobile 6.5 devices, my devices profile will never be included, eventhough its the most full featured and highest res screen HTC has ever put out.

I think you're right because I live in Quebec city, Canada.  If someone know how to access the US WM Marketplace, let us know.

    Thank you very much !

I have a Touch Diamond and i have used/installed many of the apps already on the marketplace.  I hope their will be a better feature determining whether the phone is capable or not.

Plus i seem to be seeing One/Two new apps about everyday.  Maybe the feature determining your phones capability/location is quite slow?

I have a Touch Pro 2 with WM 6.5 in the UK . I only have a limited number of apps but they do come through daily . I would of liked all 600 apps available at launch as doing it this way it would take forever for them all to come through . Also I have selected to pay by my phone bill on this website but on the phone it still asks for a credit card ????

Wondered if anyone could help ?

    I see 5 apps.

And for some annoying reason Windows Marketplace decided Belgium needs to see the french catalogue and descriptions, eventhough the majority of the country is DUTCH, and English would be a better language to remove annoyances for both sides of the country.

Not to mention that my device has all possible features, is installed with an English rom, english settings and my ISP is belgian dutch only.

The detection routine is severely flawed and only seems to work correctly for the US.

So I was under the impression that the windows mobile marketplace was set to publish 22,000 apps upon opening.  Now I realize that must have been mis-information provided from an unreliable source but when can we expect a large quantity of apps comparable to competitor app sites?

I'm from the UK and see around 40+ apps.. but if I change my location to the US, soft reset, and disable my phone connection (flight mode) and turn on my Wifi, run marketplace, then I can see around 150+..

i guess its a way of tricking marketplace to think im in the US and get more apps, not sure why they haven't included most of them in the UK store.  I guess some apps like traffic reports etc arent going to be usefull in the UK but still, theres a massive difference!!

I can only see 5, two of which werealready on my phone, and one I tried (tags reader) makes my phone to freeze, requiring a reset.
This is not a very good start for the marketplace. I understand better the appeal of Android.

Guys, if things do not change quickly, a number of disappointed customers will make their voice heard, and this pays dearly!

I am already planning to change phone and OS, even if this will cost me money.

i can still only see 3 apps on marketplace on my HTC Diamond1,  is this because of the phone or because of the fact that i am in Norway?  I want to buy appz, why does it have to be so hard..  It didnt help to change my regional settings, still only 3 apps.

    try to follow these steps:

    1.  Go to Settings --> System --> Regional Settings --> Select "English (United States)
    2.  Now turn your phone off and turn it back on.
    3.  When you turn your phone on, put it into FLIGHT MODE.  Turn your GSM phone connection OFF.
    4.  Turn your wifi on and connect to a wifi connection.
    5.  Open Marketplace.
    6.  You should now see all US applications and currency should be displayed in $

Works for me a charm, get around 5 new apps a day.

Try it out and let me know if it works for you.

edit: I have tried to change regional settings, put it in flight mode and connect to a wifi, but it still doesn't work

Mobile Operator billing is dependent on your mobile operator signing up with Microsoft to provide this service. If your mobile operator is not specifically listed by name as an billing option during initial sign-up on your device, then MO billing is unavailable and Marketplace presents credit card as the default payment method. Selecting Charge to my Mobile Phone bill on the Marketplace website has no effect on Billing Preferences unless MO billing is available.

    Fenixxen,

Here in Canada, it seems we're stuck with 64 aps now
    and we
can't choose our installing location so I'll have to wait
till this problem is solved to add more apps. I don't
want my main memory to get no more available space.
