Lifechat ZX-6000 on Windows 7 - Defective - How to determine

Hi,

I have a Lifechat ZX-6000 that will not be recognized in Windows 7 on two different box. We have a LifeChat LX-3000 that works fine. We have downloaded the latest Messenger and drivers. No joy.

It appears as though the receiver has a LED light but does not turn on. There is very little guidance on the product page. I am about to send it back and thought I would post here.

USB-powered external hard disk In Vista, even after safely removing USB-powered external hard disk will not work in the same way as the safe removal would do in Windows XP. What it won’t do is powering down the hard drive(Hard Disk Wont spin down in vista). You will notice this when you unplug the USB cable, because of the clickin sound coming from the hard disk, similar to the one you would hear if the power supply got suddenly cut off. In my laptop... In XP, if i Safely remove the External SATA HD, the HD will spin down and OFF and ready to remove. but in Vista, if i Safely remove the external HD, my ext HD still On, if i unplug the USB cable, i hear cliking sound coming from my external HD. i'm affraid my external HD will crash, n i lose my file in my ext HD. why microsoft doesn't make similar condition like in XP while Safely Remove USB Mass Storage... thank you very much Mr Judd... from hendrico_kaya

Hey

I have gamed for years since the early police quest days. I'm a devote gamer who has made ££ in the past from events etc. I always emense myself completely in games the sorrounding and the hardware. Its got me far in some great jobs aswell in the past my passion for the industry.

I used to be a mouse gamer only up to 2000 though.I discovered your trackball the optical 1.0 after going threw every trackball avadable at the time i discovered its egernomic design was the best for gaming. It was completely innovating the design of how the ball is used with the thumb. My left handed mate also eventually managed to pic it up.

Now we hit 2009 ive gamed on the same ball for the past 9 years and it has never failed me. In all new games its high dpi still means you ahead yes ahead of all the competition on-line. Once the thumb has been fully trained it is more powerfull then the wrist in gaming imo the wide range of options avadable to you espically at high sensitivty our out of the usuall gamers box. I speak off all games im a brilliant low level jet pilot in bf2, i doged close range mass combat fights in freelancer, become professional standards in hl2 dm and css and i thank it only to the trackball ( yeh im slightly awsome to). In 05 i brought it at the rrp of £45 for 2 mates in the states as a xmas present. These have not gone back to normal mouse's alough i doubted it introducing them at a late stage in there lifes.

At the moment the mouse is discontinued from you and is selling for £90 brand new. Old ones are getting £50 bids on ebay the desire for this mouse just from the people who used it is great. I am writing all this because i want you to see it from our side which i cant spend alot of time campaigning unfortunately so just trying to put the passion in one.

There is still a market for this mouse a big market. There is a very big want for the mouse , lough id probably never get to use it im trying to show you how idiotic it would be to keep this mouse off the market. It has a future a very big one a new one 2.0 with higher DPI or a re release of the old mouse would in doubtablly work very very well at this time( there is a very big market for it trackball's option varity is rubbish and no dev has done such a design again as im sure u still have the tm)

I include a couple of links to show you without a doubt which trackball i refer to and its high current price for a 9 year old ball. If you do rerelease it id recommened that you include learning software for gamers aswell something themed so people can pic up the needed movements quickly.

I have a PC with Pci WLan card installed. I want to create a program to detect whether the antenna is connected or not. if possible this logic should not be dependent on the user connected to that network.

I used Wmi, msndis class. but my Vista pc these classes did not have any objects instantiated.

Just bought the device above and installed the software from the microsoft hardware site. I am running windows 7 64bit. I get an intialisaion error when I launch live cam. Tried it in skype and it picks up the audio but no video.

Wireless Desktop 1000 in Mac OS X 10.6: Mouse scroll wheel not working...

Hi,

I have just bought a Wireless Desktop 1000. I use a MacBook Pro with this desktop set, what happens is pretty weird, when I just got the mouse, the scroll wheel would scroll just fine, scrolling many lines of text at a time. After a while, like a few hours, it would then only scroll one or two lines at a time. I have to reset the mouse battery to get it to work normally again, even rebooting my Mac won't help fix this problem.

After a few times I went to exchange a new mouse thinking it's the Mouse's problem. However with the new mouse this still happens... I still have to take out then insert the battery to get the scrolling to work right after using the mouse for a few hours... Anyone have tips? Do you think it's my receiver? Thanks!

What barebone box to use?

Hello folks,

I'm kind of new in the hardware world, and I have a problem finding the differences b/w the different barebone boxes that are commercially available. Meaning, I don't know what best suits my application requirements.

The software that is supposed to be installed in the box will be able to detect some network covert channels. Thus, it will be placed inline b/w a firewall/router and an IPS.

I need some suggestions on such boxes, vendors, prices, ... etc

Note: the application dose not need super super box requirements. Even mini size would suffice!

Internet continues to freeze

I have one care live, and continue to have a pop up saying that I dont have anti- spyware. My computer continues to freeze or takes along time. Total security keeps popping up and not letting me continue I have checked my firewall everytihng is turned on I deleted any uncessary programs. And disabled items that shouldnt be starting up when the computer gets turned on I dont know what to do..

I need to distinguish windows standby and hibernate,but windows user-mode application seems can't do it.
As I know,windows previous sleep state (S1, S3, S4, etc.) is recorded in an ACPI register (can search for SLP_TYP in ACPI spec). So that's one possible way to figure out S3 vs. S4.
But,I don't know how to read corresponding ACPI register?
Please help me!

Purchased the keyboard set and trying to use it with Windows XP system.

The mouse works most of the time, but seems to work much better off the mouse pad and on the top of the metal computer case.

The keyboard really does not work but about 20% of the time.

I have downloaded the latest drivers for both the keyboard and mouse, as well as re-synced both the keyboard and mouse using the correct method. I have tried moving to a different USB port as well.

Wanted to see if anyone had any other suggestions with regards to these issues.

not too long ago my system was sent SP2 download information and my pc automatically downloaded it...my system locked...froze..and died...it was repaired with whatever he did..most likely he started me over..cause i had nothing but a bare pc when i got it back.....now to the problem at hand......every day my pc will automatically shut itself offf...when u restart its goes to the safe mode screen...or regular start...when u try to start in the reg fashion it cuts itself back off..when u try to restart again it does the same thing...this occurs whether u are in safe or regular mode....if u let it sit for a few minutes u can finally get it to working..only for it to shut off again...i ain't got a clue..what it tells me is that either a hardware or software installation is probably the problem ...so i have been taking off items that i have installed..checked to see if i had hardware problems everything is working...i had coflicts with two programs ...my stop sign anti-virus is no longer supported....my webcam was is in conflict with this version also...i fixed that...but a problem report tells me that "UTStarcom USB Composite Device is not compatible with version of windows" now i've had this device ever since i had the pc and no problems until now....i can deal with somethings..... but not my pc dying every single day and losing everything u were working on.....my computer is an acer 5515...winsows vista Logfile of Trend Micro HijackThis v2.0.2

USB problem

Hi,
A colleague has a PC which has been working OK, with both front & rear USB ports.
When any USB device is connected, the computer powers down with out warning.
My first thought was the onboeard USB, so a PCI USB card was fitted and the problem still existed.

My colleague has a standard USB extension cable.
If a memory stick, ipod etc is connected to the PC via the extension cable then the device works OK.
If a printer is connected via the extension cabe then he gets a device installation error, if the printer was connected with out the extension cable the PC would power down.
If the printer is connected and the the PC is switched on windows will startup and once the printer is found as a new device, the PC again powers down.
We then uninstalled the USB ports and drivers and rebooted to reinstall the ports and the printer still causes the PC to power down.
I posted this query on MS newsgroups and got several replies suggesting it was a power supply problem.
The power supply was then changed and the problems still exist.

So if the printer is connected to the PC directly it shuts down, if it is connected via an extension cabe there is an unrecognised device error.
Plugging a memory stick etc directly into the PC causes the PC to shut down, but connecting a memory stick via an extension cable the device works ok.

Any suggestions?

External Hard Drive I/O Error

I have a brand new Seagate FreeAgent | Desk™ 1.0-TB USB 2.0 Drive

After backing up all my data, approx. 120 GB i shut down my desktop and after few hours i wanted to backup some more. but the drive is no longer accessible. I get 2 different I/O error every time i double click on my drive icon on both my desktop with Windows XP SP3 & Sony VAIO with Windows Vista SP2. Please check Screenshots: Error 1 & Error 2

Some of the data in the hard drive was valuable so i used seagate's file recovery for windows and was able to recover the data. The complete contents of the hard drive were accessible for recovery via the software. but the hard disk still gives I/O error and is not accessible. I'm not concerned about the data as i already have it on my other drive. I Want to format the hard drive and make it usable. Please help.

Good evening,

I am currently looking for a good keyboard that works in both, Windows & Leopard and I came across these MS sets a couple times before but I am now not entirely sure whether they do pair (bluetooth wise) with the (recent 2008/2009) macPro's built-in BT without using the MS one, does Intellitype for Macs support them and do they work natively (read: during boot-up / when choosing to boot from another device I need to be able to press 'alt'... the apple bt ones obviously do work right from the power-on.. but do the ms's, too?)?

Anyone using the 8000 with a mac and has some experience on this?

Hi-

I purchased a Dell Studio XPS for 1300 a few days ago, I got a ridiculous deal. The problem is I got it with Vista Home Premium because they don't offer Vista Business on that system (who knows why they can't add that as an option?) Well I want to upgrade to Windows 7 Professional because I want to be able to use that Virtual XP mode thing for some older software. Can I purchase the $99.00 upgrade for Windows 7 Professional or do I need to first upgrade to Windows Vista Business? Pretty much my question is the requirement for windows 7 professional, any version of vista or must it be vista business? I would return and repurchase my dell that I ordered to get the free upgrade, the problem is I got such a good deal on it, I don't mind spending an extra 100 bucks because it will still be cheaper.

upon loading windows xp on my dell vostro 1500, the touch pad works until i press any key on the keyboard. i checked in the device manager and found that my 'standard 101/102-key or microsoft natural ps/2 keyboard' driver is giving me the error

Windows cannot load the device driver for this hardware. The driver may be corrupted or missing. (Code 39)

i tried both uninstall/reinstall of the driver as well as updating the driver and it still is not working. i read on some other forums about editing some regisry keys but none of them were specific to a keybard device. i'm not sure what else to try so please help!

Hello all. I was using the NTBackup utility to back up (yeah, backup all on computer); BUT, when and if I need to restore, from a external backup drive (that I do not keep plugged into the back of my desktop tower/chassis, but only solely when I need to add something to the external drive or whatever, you know) It's 100GB, My tower/chassis's internal drive is: 120GB, and my thinking is that I can not solely rely on just one back/restore program; I gotta have two, just in case one doesn't work or (?). Thus, I've copy and pasted text (below) from a read out copy of my PC ("Belarc"), which of course I know, only shows what's on a pc and I wanted to share it with you all, thus, to get a direct, misc point of view opinion, to the point and short as to Full backup vs Full image. I like how easy NTBackup lay out is, but recently, maybe because of a sole tweaking program I had (backuped up) didn't return my pc back to what is was, and of course for more reason's than one, I know, I 'get' it, reviewing these MS forums. So, I'm here to see what people can respectfully and kindly share, on aside from doing one backup with NTBackup utility, I wanna get another backup/restore program, which both will use seperate file extension's (NT uses .bk?), and yes, maybe I'll have to get a bigger external hard drive (from 100GB to say 500 GB) I know, I hear you. But for now, I just need to move in the process of doing something, for home pc security/safety precautions in the sense you know. I do create sysem restore point's often, clear the thing's in Internet Options (temp and history, misc often, and record's of recently access stuff from taskbar - properties - start menu) you know; I'm atop of this/that, I know, but this backup/restore issue is something I gotta deal with as well. SO, yeah, I can do a NTBackup, find out about a either free or little cost backup/restore program, but full backup vs full image; I, like you all (?), need it restored (if I need to do that), per backup just as it was before, you know. Setting's, desktop image background theme, all in control panel setting's, everything. and for now, yeah, I got a external backup drive which I don't keep plugged in all that time (because of online hacker's, misc), I use external like (ie: vacuum, misc, you know, plug in when I need it, unplug when I'm done; make sense?) We all, more less (user's) have to be able to rely and trust each other, come on; 6.7 billion can't be that banged up, etc &^%$#@!, you know, I'm as human as you are. SO, can anyone share anything helpful, useful, AND, per what I'm saying above, PLEASE, and I do thank you respectfully, honestly - in advance. Oh, and I mean, backup AND restore of exact registry, system state, including OS: Windows XP Home Edition Service Pack 2 (build 2600) EVERYTHING on internal, just saying, no offense. Again, thank you sincerely, kindly and respectfully in advance. And I know this is a 'single' processor and the number of processes in Task Manager's bottom left hand corner should only read 16 or 17, but I got/want alot of stuff running at startup and in the background, but because of slowness, I can't have it run, but have saved the installation's file's of alot of stuff when I get upgraded to a whole new pc (quad core, either Intel or AMD; I've done semi research, it's just the lack of money). I want what I want running, but want a processor to 'regulate', 'the man', thus, running processes slow down processor. I do just surf, BUT, need quad core to run what I want.

AND, a basic, simple, misc book or ? on CMD command's, since what people say and what's in the list under type Help, don't always work on every system, thus, in case I need to do something in CMD I can; I get sort of CD, MD, misc command's, but need to know alittle more on some stuff if I need to do something (not tweaking), but just looking/finding something via/per CMD, that's all.

And it's ironic and (&^%$#@!) how MS, etc embed's so much ____ into their OS's registry; stuff that doesn't even need to be there, should be out if add/remove removed it, plus, just endless ____ data info. What MS, etc won't do is: you pick and choose what you want of/on a OS, and MS, etc matches it solely, misc with the honest nut's and bolt's to make solely the OS you choose, to work. Customized OS's, they'll still make a profit. Just like extracting MS's backup program in OneCare into it's own program if on doesn't want the OneCare, BUT, have it DO FULL image backup, everything! Not just this/that. Wasted $40 years ago because of firewall clashing with windows firewall - too much problems - to what, 6 hour's on phone with MS or forums . . . that MS, etc know this and purposely embed (?) in OS's to make additional profit in 'support' - "Well, it's our OS, come out with your own". I mean what . . . nevermind, sigh. It's just some just don't 'get' it; they can still make a profit if they would just 'be on the real', honest, misc. But some (?) use billion dollar company as a front to send out (?) unto one's PC, ask for 'control' into their pc, and thus, destroy people's live's, pc's, it's so stupid kid, corrupt, etc like, makes no sense, and I said some, not all, since some are in (elsewhere) in world and know they'll never get caught; it's just sick, but that's ok, God sees all, all have sole record to answer for in end, whatever, so be it, thus, why I have to be casreful and do backup's with two different back/restore program's, never keep my external drive plugged in, have good security sofeware, etc/misc, gotta watch your 'own' back, because NO ONE ELSE WILL, YOU can believe that; paranoid - me, maybe, but, is what it is I deal with it.

I was taking a practice test for Charles Froster Employment Agency and find since then my home computer is experiencing difficults. The lower icon shows as a tap on the tool bar. I currently have Word and was not trying to install program and now I am very difficulties. It is actually freezing up my computer and could not even soft reboot the computer itself. Please help me to understand what I need to do to eliminate this from future problems?

Add a 512MB of Ram, computer now will restart over.....

I just bought a stick of 512MB of ram, I installed it and now my computer will start up then restart, at times it will do it over and over. Few times I can get into windows but a min later the computer will restart.

When I has the new 512 installed I can Windows Memory Diagnostic Tool and it said Hardware problem detected.

Not sure if I have the 512Mb in the wrong slot, bad memory or the motherboard. The pc can hold up to 4GB of Ram.

Any help would be great.

Yesterday I was on Xbox live and bought GTA:San Andres and it said it could not be downloaded so i tried it 5 more times and still didn't work so i logged on today and tried it 5 more times and it still didn't work,so then I got really pissed off so i came to complain and i want a refund Xbox Live/Microsoft or I will Sue you!!!!

Hi

I want to disable usb flash drive access to certain users in the local systems.

i could disable the usb drive in the system by editing the below registry setting.

HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\Services\UsbStor.

I want to USB accessible only for the local administrator. What setting should i change for that?

Real time microphone playback through speakers

I have a Dell Vostro 1700 Dual Core running Vista Ultimate SP1 with a SigmTel audio chipset - I cannot speak into the microphone and have my voice played back through the speakers in real time, i.e. talking whilst giving a presentation or talking over music which is being played (Karaoke). This is a known problem with Vista SP1 and some audio chipsets as shown by the number of forums complaining about it. Will Windows 7 provide this functionality - FYI this functionality works great on an old compaq pc with xp sp3 and and an intel audio chipset.

Hi and hope you can help,

Sorry if my post is in the wrong forum, The found new hardware wizard keep poping up on every reboot of my windows xp Pro, service pack 3 system. it is looking for software for my Pioneer DVD -RW DVR -111D, as far as I am aware this software is allready installed.

How can I let the computer know the software is allready installed. When I go into the device manager it tells me the hardware is working .

I suspect this is a false message for the wizard to pop up. I downloaded software from the pioneer website so I expect this is ok and the drive itself is working fine.

any help in resolving this would be much appreciated as I have not managed to resolve this via internet help yet.

The thing of it is, is that I can install somethings like the os disk works, and the dell driver cd works.

2GB XD Card

I have just bought a 2GB xd memory card for my camera. It works in the camera. If I insert it into a card reader via a USB slot I can cut and paste the photo from it to my pc. It will not let me paste data onto it without wanting to format the card first. This would be OK but it wants to format it at 1GB when it is a 2GB card.

If I insert the card into my pc when it is blank and use my computer to look on the card it again wants to forma it to 1GB.

Help. The main reason I bought it was to fill up with photos to view in an electronic photo frame but I cant get any data onto the card. I have a 1GB card which works perfectly, it seems that XP cant recognise 2GB xd cards.

Help - Vista Runs Too Fast - Not Performance Wise

Hello, I just installed OEM home premium (bought from newegg) on my custom-built quad-core pc. The problem is (even from the install cd) that the computer simply goes too fast. I'm not speaking of performance - that's fine. I'm talking about actual speed of things. Every few seconds, a minute on the computer clock passes. Animations and loading bars animate themselves rediculously fast. I can't play any of my games because they play way too fast, and I can't properly control what is going on. The screensaver comes up in only a little bit of time because the computer thinks ten minutes have passed. I've tried many things and looked many places, but I can't get anything to work. It looks like it is a quad core problem.
I need help fixing this - I can't compute with this computer in this state.
I had a temporary boot of xp/linux before vista - and they both worked fine. That's why I know it's an OS issue. I wiped my hard drive and then installed vista.

Can't access my providers home page or email server

I can't access my providers home page or mail server. This is a new system with a Linksys WRT 310N router. Everything was working fine until early yesterday. I downloaded my email and then when I tried to reply, I could not get on the mail server or the ISP home page. I have access to all other internet sites through the router and can access the mail server when I hook my modem up directly th my PC. 2 hours on the phone with my ISP and Linksys failed to resolve the problem. I have tried reboots, shutting down Norton and reinstalling the Linksys software. No luck. Any suggestions? BTW, I am using wireless high speed and am a bit of a novice so please try to post any suggestions in laymans' terms. Thanks in advance.
