How to deploy an application created from ICE using Hdview tilesets as export option to silverlight streaming server or some other server.

i am having problem in deploying the ICE application using Hdview tilesets as export option.it outputs one xml file,.html file and tiles folder containing images.Then i see some post related to this problem and so i download HdViewOnLoad.js and manifest.xml file from the website and add it to application folder ie making it total five items.Then i zip it and upload it to silverligt streaming server.But when i test it throught test page then it gives blank page.Even <iframe> tag used in html page does not work.So please some one can guide me how to fix this issue and give me a detailed steps how to do it.

MAXZOOM inconsistent results

I am using HDVIEW SL with the Photoshop plugin. As I understand it MAXZOOM set to 1 should set the maximum zoom to the actual image size. But I am getting very inconsistent results. With some images, MAXZOOM set to 2 is closer to the actual image size (as tested in photoshop, 100% zoom). Another image requires a setting of 1.1.

What am I doing wrong?

Facebook app for hosting HD View Content?

Just wonder if there is any existing FaceBook applicaton out there that would allow posting HD Viewer content on Facebook.
I seached Facebook applicaton but did find one. I tried to find some application that would allow the Iframe to be embeded, but no luck. The closest ones the blogging application that would enable you inserting **some** html tags, but none of them can embed an iFrame.

Any suggestions?

Question about Hdmake for deepzoom image creation and licensing

I have been exploring deepzoom for a website I am creating. I can dynamically create deepzoom images when a user uploads a photo using the deepzoomcomposer.dll. The problem I'm having with that is that there are definitive lines between each tile as you zoom in, which makes it look unprofessional. A user in the deepzoom forums pointed me to hdmake and said it didn't have the same issues with lines between tiles which brings me here.

My first question is, are there plans to make this into a dll that can be called via API's from an asp.net website? As I mentioned above, I would like to be able to dynamically create deepzoom images as users upload images to my site. I realize I could pass in parameters to hdmake.exe to create them, but I'm not sure if I can actually execute that exe from my hosted web page. A dll would get around any potential issues of not being able to run the exe. I would like these to be deepzoom images so that I can use the deepzoom viewer via Seadragon (not Silverlight--yet another thing a client would need to download before they could view my page) so that users don't have to install any software. I'm just investigating hdview and hdmake, but it appears that users would need to download some software before they view hdview images, which I'm trying to avoid.

The second question is regarding licensing. I noticed that the license states that this can't be used for commercial websites or projects. Is that going to change? Or are you planning to charge for its use when it is officially released? I realize this is in development right now, but I would like to know the roadmap for the project so I can determine if I should keep following or if it will never be something I am able to use on my site. What is the timeframe for a general release?

Anyway, I haven't had much time to play with it yet, but the user from the deepzoom forums that referred me hear stated that hdmake is a lot faster and doesn't have the lines between tiles as you zoom in. I am assuming he meant that I could create deepzoom images with hdmake, and view them with the deepzoom viewer as opposed to the hdview viewer (please correct me if I'm wrong).

A few questions on HDView and hdmake

I recently found out about HDView Photoshop Plugin and hdmake utility, and greatly appreciate them

I have a few questions

When I generate an HDView output from ICE, the resulting Web page opens up without any warning.
When I generate and HDView output from the PS plugin or hdmake, when opening the resulting Web page I get an Active X blocked content warning, and I have to manually accept the blocked content.
Is there a way to change the output of the HDView PS plugin and hdmake to avoid that warning ?
Is there a plan (or a way) to add the possibility inside ICE of creating hot spots in an HD View panorama, so that when clicking on that spot in HD View, it would launch another HD View sequence.

Like have an HD View of the outside of a home, click on the door, it launches the HD View of the Inside, Click on the backdoor, open the HD View of the Garden...Similar to what exist in quicktime VR, allowing to create Virtual tours

Things that would be nice to have:

hdmake does not seem to be multithreaded (maxed at 50% on dual core), is there a plan for it ? (would be nice given this is most useful on large compositions which can take some time)
I tested hdmake on a 40k by 40k composition made of 2025 (45x45) images. Unfortunately, probably because of argument length limit, I could not go above 45x20 (900 images) after that it would return an error.
It would be nice to add an option to -srcgrid, that would allow to use a txt file with the list of images to use, so we would not be limited by the number of images to assemble in a grid.

Posting HDView project on Skydrive

I would like to post the result of an HDView project but only for access by family members, so I though of using Live storage Skydrive for it, as you can give selective access to folders.

Because you cannot upload folders on Skydrive, I generated the HDView project using the Zip option.

I discovered that you had to actually add the zip extension to the file named “Files” and edit the .htm to include the zip extension for the page to open in that mode.

Once I had the project generated and working on my pc (files.zip, project.htm, HDViewSL.xap), I uploaded these 3 files to a semi private folder on SkyDrive, but when I launch the project.htm page from there, HDView opens but on a black and white grid saying buffering and nothing ever happens.

This is what happens when it does not find the files, so I am wondering what could be the cause of the problem.

Hosting Your HD View Content

Hi,

I have tried to follow the directions given on http://research.microsoft.com/en-us/um/redmond/groups/ivm/HDView/HDcreate.htm to host my content on the free Silverlight development server. However, I can not seem to get it to work. I am using ICE to output what I believe should be either "HD View" or "HD View SL" content. Both types work for me locally. If you follow the instructions on the above page they state that you should zip up the following files and folders...

flowers_files (folder)
manifest.xml
HDViewOnload.js
HDViewSL.xap
flowers.xml
flowers_hdv.xml

... and upload them to the development server. I don't have this flowers_hdv.xml file. ICE does not output it when I chose Deep Zoom Tilesets. Where do I get it from?
It's the same when I try to output HD View Tilesets. I end up not having the flowers_hdv.xml PLUS I don't get the HDViewSL.xap file either.

Like I said, both of the formats work for me locally but when I use the Silverlight instructions I just end up with the HDView Beta 3 splash screen. It does not fade out and give any content.

Any help appreciated, especialy if it comes in a "click here, then type this, then press enter" kind of format.

Passing arguments via URL when using HDViewSL

I am trying to use this tool and pass some parameters to my supporting javascript via URL.

As an example here is a Deep Zoom image

As part of this project I need to pass some variables to some javascript running on this page so I need the URL to be:

However when I add any arguments to the URL the HDViewSL stops working. Any ideas would be greatly appreciated!

Large Hole in full 360 spherical images

With the HDVIEW Beta 2 and DirectX 9 the image in the link (provided below) showed almost a complete image. The ceiling only had about a 10 pixel hole. With Beta 2 and Drectx10 it distorted the image in the ceiling. Now with Beta 3 in both versions of DirectX there is a large hole in the ceiling. Feature request: a magnifier

Hi Matt,

A feature request: a magnifier along the lines of the one used in the DevalVR viewer. I was just reviewing some of my qtvr pans that use DevalVR and comparing them with some of the HD View ones I've done. The magifier is quite handy for quickly surveying a compicated scene.

Here's a small example. Right shift to see the magifier which is centered at the cursor.

I use Filezilla 3.0.10 on Win XPpro and the server is running IIs 5.0.

ICE-Problems with building-structures

I made a deep-soom pic of a building, consisting of ca. 40 shots at 105mm, which works fine. Now i tried to get further and took 200 shots at 250mm. But now ICE has problems in fitting together the phptos with very similar roof tiles and bricks.

Is there a way around that problem, or do i have to stay at lower focal length?

As i only need a few parts of the builing to be very deep zoomable, is there a way to combine different focal lengths?

Problem with the silverlight server

Hello, i'am having some isues, i can't get to work my application in the silverlight server.

This is what i do:

Get the pictures in Microsoft ICE, select de HD View format then export.
I get 3 files: A carpet named tiles, test.html and test.xml (at this point i can see the application locally)
Then i copy the two other files from the page HD View: Create... (manifest.xml and HDViewOnLoad.js)
Then i zip all of them in test.zip
After that i have the zip and go to the silverlight streaming page and create the application and upload the file (test.zip)
However, when i go to the application properties, i dont have a "Launch Application Test Page" link and i get the Configure this Application: This application requires a manifest to function correctly. [Create].

and when trying to see the iframe, the page respond that it canot find the web page. The code of the iframe that i use is this:

I install and afterwards HD-Content doenst show up, but I get the "please install .."-message.

Scroll wheel issue

When you change the cursor type from the hand to the arrow mode, the picture moves in the opposite direction compared to the mouse (e.g. if I move the mouse left, the hand moves the picture on the screen left but the arrows move it to the right). AFIK, this is correct behavior.

However, the scroll wheel also changes direction--with the hand, if I move the top of the scroll wheel toward the screen, the image zooms in. with the arrow cursor, if I move the top of the scroll wheel toward the screen, the image zooms out.

I would like the scroll wheel to cause the screen to zoom in when I move the top of the wheel toward the screen regardless of which cursor is selected.

Image just broken boxes

Image pans and zooms but is just random garbage.

Buffering, then stalls

On a couple of my machines, HDview brings up the HDview window with a black screen and then I get "Buffering" in yellow on the top. The picture is never displayed.

This behavior occurs on both FF2 and IE7. The machines have AVG antivirus and firewall running, and the behavior does not change if I turn the firewall off.

Both machines were updated to the lastest updates.microsoft.com offers.

Do you have any hints about how I can solve this problem?

I tried installing the latest version of Windows Installer but it said "this update does not apply to your system." So what should I look for next>

hdmake generating pngs

I'm surprise to see that hdmake now generates png instead of wdp. However, it seems that HDView is even more suprised then me. When trying to access a site created with the hdmake 1.7 (in which all generated tiles are pngs), HDView generates an error saying:

Could not create scene from file:
file://[MyPath]\l_0\c_0\tile_0.wdp
hr=0x800c0005

No wonders that it can be created, the file HDView is looking for is now called tile_0.png!

Is there an attribute to add in the xml file to tell HDView to look for pngs?

On the "Try HD View" page:

1. Squamish. Where is the climber?

3. Kerry Park. 3 airplanes?

4. Seattle. Don't tell me, still looking.....

My first impressions of this technology:

1. The Zoom goes "IN" too far. The zoom should stop while the picture is still sharp, or maybe go one small step beyond, to indicate there is no greater detail.

2. A small unobtrusive 'progress indicator' might be helpful. A 'busy' cursor is not a good idea, and a progress bar in the download area would also be a bad idea. But a very small icon, in the upper right corner might work. An icon like the "Toggle fisheye/normal lens", with red/green squares to indicate which portions of the image have been completed.

In fact, the grid icon could be used as a progress indicator, and maybe a new 'Options' button added for obscure choices like fisheye/normal.

3. Speed. Because panning and zooming is slower than Google Earth, it might help to have a progress indicator. Also, it seems that some photos that are patched together are not of equal resolution. (Look below the far right tower in 'Seattle', at the appartment block that obscures its base, 7th floor from the top, last floor visible. The windows and air conditioners on the right are noticibly more sharp than thos the left.

4. Which raises the question of the complexity of creating an image for HDView. 800 photos?

Why I finally installed this control.

1. I've know about this contol and a related technolgy that stitches photos together to create a 3Dview. The 3D viewer uses a related technolgy and sounds far more interesting, but HDView supports this new toy I bought - 3Dconnexion SpaceNavigator.

2. I thought I could - with a tripod and a little patience - shoot a few RAW photos on vacation, process them for HDView, upload them to Llve Spaces, and provide my 5-year-old grandchild a quick realistic view of what one sees standing on a street in Asia. I think my wife might allow 20 photos, if I take them quickly enough, but 800???

Criticisms.

1. The control is too slow to update when viewing sample files.

2. The reslution of the assembled image seems to require you to zoom in one step closer, then back up one step, to get a clear sharp image.

Other Thoughts.

1. When hunting for the climbers and airplanes and the owl, it became a kind of game. I'm wondering if it has any educational or gaming application?

HDview does not work properly in IE8, in either its native mode or "emulate IE7 mode". I get a small white box with a red x in it (broken picture?) in the upper left corner of the screen.

HDView Beta 3 does not work on Intel 830M integrated VGA

Hello, I'm playing around with HDView for a while now, using it on different machines, today I installed the beta 3 on some machines and now have trouble on my Acer Notebook with an Intel 830M chipset and integrated VGA. The starting logo appears, fades almost out, but then it just stops and nothing happens anymore... The Beta2 worked fine on this machine, so I hope I can get the beta 3 with hdr support working...

Anyone some tipps?

Pixel shader 2.0

the tone adjustment seems to require pixel shader 2.0 in beta 3.0. this "breaks" a feature that was available in beta 2.0. I'd prefer to have HDview use pixel shader if it is present, and use the old software solution if pixel shader is not present in the graphics card..

FTP and firewalls

I run AVG firewall on several machines, and its (more or less) default configuration blocks FTP. But HDView install seems to use FTP.

My solution was to turn off the firewall momentarily. But not all viewers will know to do this. Either changing back to an HTTP download, or a big note ("turn off your firewall so we can download our program--its NOT malware, TRUST US!") is in order.

HDView beta3 not working in FF 3

Installed HDView beta 3 on FF 3. It didn't work. I had to go to tools->add-ons->plugins and enable HDView.

That fixed the problem.

Update on Accessing Images on HDView

I can access everything fine at my office computer. I have deleted and installed again HDView Beta 3 on my computer at home. When I access the HDR images from Fairchild, I get the message "buffering" but no images yet. Thanks.

I can access Wide Gamut Demo. When I access the other thumbnails, the screen shows that it is buffering, but I don't get any image. I tried four or five of the images on Mark Fairchild's page. Thanks for the help.

First off, great work on this tool. We love it here in Singapore and we're trying to do our first pano.

I have a problem though. The control works fine in most of our computers except a few where we get the following error:

HD View Error

Could not create scene from file http://s.amazonaws.com/HDView/SquamishWall/tiles/l_{l}/c_{c}/tile_{r}.wdp. ht=0x80040155

This error occurs for both IE and FireFox. We've also tried everything to reset our browsers.

Just a FYI ... we are able to directly pull up a wdp file so we can confirm access through the proxies seem to work.

Any ideas?

HDView problem after SP3 auto update

Last night I become a auto update for my pc. SP3 is install on my system. After the installation I have a problem with HDView.

The following message appears:

Sorry the HD View Beta is not supported on this platform. Must be Internet Explorer or Firefox on Windows XP, Server 2003, or Vista.

Just upgraded to FF 3.0. HDview no longer works, even though I re-installed it.
The FF menus don't work, and large parts of the screen turn black.

What's the best way to put thousands of small files on the FTP. It's taking forever. Is there a cheat to put all the files as one file. That will be waaaaaaaaaaaay faster
