MAXZOOM inconsistent results

I am using HDVIEW SL with the Photoshop plugin. As I understand it MAXZOOM set to 1 should set the maximum zoom to the actual image size. But I am getting very inconsistent results. With some images, MAXZOOM set to 2 is closer to the actual image size (as tested in photoshop, 100% zoom). Another image requires a setting of 1.1.

What am I doing wrong?

Need to help with VC-1?

I have some difficulties with VC-1 file. I have demux .m2ts after that I got the result of VC-1 and ac.3. But I cannot play the VC-1 file with any player.. Will it be possible to play pure VC-1 with Window Media Player11. I have install VC-1 SDK and other support software. But Still cannot play the VC-1.

Photoshop plugin for Mac?

Hey, I run both mac and PC, and have recently been given the task of creating many HD view pages. I mainly use my mac side for my design needs. I was wondering if there is any way to get the photoshop plugins for HD view on mac?

The installer is obviously windows only, but would I be able to install on windows, then move the plugin files themselves to my mac side?

Also is it possible to take an already created HD view page, and, without the source image, convert it to work also in hd view SL? I have one page here http://www.blindmanstudio.com/labs/kitchen/ which I no longer have the source for. I was not aware when I created it on my windows machine that I needed to do an export for both HD view and HD view SL to make it work on both mac and windows.

Background Color changeable?

Hi all,

i want to build a deep-zoom picture with hd-view. The problem is, the object (a church) has an L-shape, so there is a lot of room filled with blue-sky.

HDView-Editor has problems with putting the sky pieces together. The church itself is no problem. What i do now is "free" the church from the sky, and fill the white space with a bluish color.

But what i would like to do is: Free the single pictuers from the sky, stitch it in the editor, and now define a background-color in the editor. The color is always black, which doesn't fit to the church.

And best would be, if the background isn't zoomable, to reduce tiles and size.

Maybe an idea for a future build?.

wlpg jpg metadata using HDMake

Recently I read a post by Matt (which I can't find again) that when using Windows Live Photo Gallery to create panoramas, a jpg is created with metadata that is then used by HDMake to create the data for HDView. Were the jpg files created using the standard stitch program in WLPG or by using the extras/ICE option ? I've used both options in WLPG but I'm not able to see the metadata created when looking in the jpg properties. I'm running the latest downloads of both programs but seem to be a bit lost of creating and using the metadata. Also would the command line for hdmake be different when using a jpg with the metadata ?

I'm trying to run the Photoshop plug-in as Dual Output Type and I'm getting this "returned hr = 800070057" error while running. When chosing HD View Output Type everything's fine.
Do you know what's happening ?

Using HD View to see gigapixel photos hosted in GoDaddy using Wordpress

I am now using gigapan viewer to view my gigapixel photos hosted in GoDaddy using Wordpress. (http://peterchanphoto.com/) I would like to try using HD View. I found examples which assume the gigapixel photos are hosted at Silverlight services. I have already used Microsoft Image Composite Editor to output HD View Tileset. Would someone help giving me an example of using HD View in my situation (I am not a technical person)? I am using the following code in my Wordpress blog:

I just tried my first HD View panorama using the Photoshop plug-in version 1.8. The result was successful (I think) and quite nice. Seemed to work fine. Then I tried to view the output, both on my website and locally a bit later after the computer had been sleeping, and also after a re-boot, and all I see is a black sreen with a bit of MS text at the bottom.

What happened? Tried re-doing the pan, same result. I can however view one of the HD View examples on the website.

For what it's worth, this worked on my computer when I first posted it:

Unable to run HDMake

Hi there.

I'm trying to experiment with HDview, but I can't run HDMake. Every time I run it, I get the error :

One output for Deepzoom and HDV

Will you allow the PS plugin to generate both HDview and DeepZoom file sets and also a web page template that:checks for HDView presence and uses it if found, and otherwise defaults to silverlight deepzoom? This assumes that I could use a 16 or 32 bit image and the plugin would convert it to 8 bits for Silverlight only.

And also add a button to install HDView if its not found but Silverlight is?.

Luminous fringe at bottom of image

This image was prepared using the HD View plugin for Photoshop, specifying Deep Zoom/Silverligth output: http://www.bstorage.com/Photo/DeepZoom/TwinPeaksNight/zoom.htm .

If you look at the bottom of the image with low magnification, you'll see line of light-colored pixels (fringe). These are not in the large original image. As you zoom, they eventually disappear. I can mask this problem by creating a small border in the viewer (my Silverlight code based on HDView SL) using code or xaml, but it might be worth looking into the root problem.

For comparison, this page (http://www.bstorage.com/Photo/DeepZoom/TwinPeaksNight0/zoom.htm ) used the same original image, but was compiled by the Deep Zoom Composer. I broke the original large file into 3 tiles to keep the DZ Composer from complaining that the file was invalid. Other than that, everything is the same. The version built with the Deep Zoom Composer does not display the fringe problem.

This is a fairly minor point, as the workaround is simply to change image mode from 16 to 8 bit, but it might make sense to have the exporter process 16-bit images directly, doing whatever conversions make sense for the output type.

Hi,

whenever I use:

the resulting view is blurry and not sharp, the tiles are very small, it not usable.

when I instead use:

everything is ok.

So the difference is the -dest parameter. But this one is very important for me.

What am I doing wrong? Or what can I do, to bypass this behaviour?

I am trying out HDViewer and all for possible inclusion in my extensive photographic

When I test the file on a local disk directory, it works fine, but when I try it at the URL, it fails with:

I have tried three times to reload the files on the server, using:

a full directory FTP

a file by file FTP

an upload of a .zip file of the containing directory and subsequent expansion.

All give the same error from the server, but work locally.

HD VIEW BETA not supported- FF 20016. where is the download-button. does it work in restricted-account of w2k? Devalvr can be installed. QTVR cannot. flashplayer: i have mixed results. maybe there is an exe and a plugin. panorama-pluging usually work but not the exe, which need admin-rights(e.g. in youtoube. with these informations i want to say: if HD VIEW should be a success it must be installed also in restricted accounts. not like java which needs admin-rights too.

Now, since wdp (aka hdp) is in fact capable of holding high dynamic range data, is there any chance to get HDmake support HDR input? Either Radiance or OpenEXR support would be just stellar. I believe that would also be a great way to benefit from the live tone adjustments. Currently, I have to tonemap my pano down to 8 bit, just to get a "fake tone curve adjustment", whereas I would much rather have a true exposure shift like in PTViewer (but with he butter smooth scrolling of HDView and low artifacting of wdp.)

According to HDmake's command line options: -src image.{tif|png|jpg|wdp|bmp}

only 5 formats are supported.

Why not .psb?

What should I choose if my image larger than 30,000x30,000 pixles?

According to the capacity of PTgui:

The maximum output size in PTGui depends on the file format:

JPEG: max 25,000 x 25,000 pixels

TIFF: unlimited dimensions, but the TIFF specifications allow a maximum file size of 4GB. Certain applications (including Photoshop CS2) fail to read TIFF files larger than 2GB. Older Photoshop versions cannot read images wider or taller than 30,000 pixels.

Photoshop .psd: max 30,000 x 30,000 pixels and a maximum file size of 4GB (Photoshop CS2) or 2GB (Photoshop CS)

Photoshop .psb: max 300,000 x 300,000 pixels, no file size limitations

When using HDMake with one photo, i have this error : 80070057. I tried different parameters with no success, it always fails after 97%. In the destination folder, the folder "l_0" is missing. I use the last version of HDMake (1.4) and the image size is 39096 x 4124.

Embed HDView in a Webpage ?

Hi,
first of all, thanks a lot for this tool ! HDView is definitely a great software.

Instead of linking visitors to a hdview webpage, I would like to embed HDView panoramas in my website (just like you embed a qtvr panorama or a youtube video), and I use a CMS (drupal) ; I tried to copy & paste the code (what was in the <body> </body> tags) from the html page generated by the Photoshop plugin in a webpage, and to put the rest (the folder & xml file generated) in a specific folder.
Then, I tried to make the link between this folder and my webpage (since this is a CMS, pages are not static, so the html & xml/folder can't be in the same folder) :

Intro, new HDView glacier image, and question

Hi. I'm new to HDView, and I really like it. I'm a glaciologist, working mostly in arctic Alaska, and I have gotten into gigapixel panoramas for both science and outreach. I've taken about 20 gigapixel images last summer of various glacier landscapes and am now starting to stitch and post them. HDView seems to be the best tool out there right now, and I'm glad to be using it.

I would appreciate any comments as to whether this links works for others, as well as any HDView suggestions regarding the display. I have a presentation to make tomorrow to the folks that manage ANWR, where I do this glacier work, and I'd to share this with them. My question is: How do I provide a download link on the web page for the HDView viewer? I found this page on the HDView site http://research.microsoft.com/research/downloads/details/345a52c3-fe44-4045-94b4-4b26a93a907c/details.aspx Is there a way I can add the download button to my page directly, or should I just send everyone to this page? Either way is fine, but just wanted to know if there was a direct means. I'm just a hack when it comes to HTML programming, so please forgive me if this is a very naive question, and please feel free to reply with low-level instructions.

Photoshop plugin enhancements

The photoshop plugin seems to work great with a spherical pano!

I'd like a few enhancements to it:

1. set the initial angle of view, HFOV would be enough.
2. set the initial view (ie use somewhere other than the center of the picture).
3. I'd like an option to give the user a list of controls, e.g. + and - zoom in and out, and notification that there are two controls in the upper right hand corner. this could be in the black bar under the picture.
4. the plugin should let me initialize the velocity and hand adjustment control and the tone curve.
5.I'd like to have a way to enter the HTML title attribute from the plugin, and the title should default to the image name (not "HDView Example" as it is now)

Photoshop plugin error

When trying to make a HD View file more than 7000 pixels wide I get an error message:

returned hr = 80004005

Works fine on smaller images.
15 gig temp on c: and 2 gig ram.
PS CS8.

Hi all,

I've written a small python script to tile images of arbitrary size (using the VIPS library) into tiles for the Google Earth PhotoOverlay. I'd like to reuse these tiles for HDView, but I'm getting display errors as the 360 - 0 deg seam of spherical panoramas. It looks like some pixels on the right side of the rightmost tiles are missing, only the leftmost 128 pixels of that tile are used. When I increase the width attribute in the xml file, suddenly the leftmost 192 pixels are used, but I need just the 184 leftmost pixels of that tile.

The tiles (512 by 512 pixels) have been created according to the specification at

I can see some differences to the tiles hdmake creates:

Level 0 contains only one tile, whereas level 0 of hdmake output seems to contain two tiles. I used the {L} specification to skip the level 0, so that shouldn't be a problem.

The left and bottommost tiles are not cropped at the right/bottom border, if the size is not the full tile size.

Is there a way I can use these tiles with HDView as well, or would I have to create new tiles to support HDView? I tried using the subRect parameter but that didn't make any difference.

don't know if this is the place for it but I am unclear as to if i would be violating the license if i get paid to create a pano for a client and publish it with hdview to their website or in my gallery on my website www.roto-photo.com would love to use this for aerial panos. how about if i create a tourism site with hdview that has ads on it.

Maybe to spark some public discussion ....

- request to allow variable smallest image size, instead of fixed 256x256. or at least some multiples of 256.

- an option to generate the html file at the same time. I know, trivial, but it would be handy. this would remove some of the requests for how to ensure the user has the activex control installed

- if quality=1, then is it necessary to convert the lossless pyramid to lossy?

- output a statistics log, useful for debug if there is a problem, or posting here

And the anti-request: don't need a GUI. I'd rather see more fundamental work done, rather than working on a GUI. My $0.02.

This is a user question on the hdview alias. I'm copying it to the forum and I encourage everyone to use the forum instead of the alias for these types of questions.

I'm trying to process a TIFF file, 1200 dpi, saved with LZW compression. I get:

HDMake: ERROR - tiff file not a supported format: bitspersample(4), samplesperpi
xel(1), photometric(3), planarconfig(1)
HDMake: ERROR - can't open source file cmq-1200-lzw.tif
HDMake: ERROR code returned 80004005

Any idea what's going on??

For my most recent 1.68 gb jpeg run through hdmake, it create about 79k files. Is there a way to go ahead and let there be bigger tiles that would result in fewer files? HD View performance might suffer, but I'd rather be able to control it.

Are there any performance numbers that we should expect with hdmake? I've got a 2gb jpeg file, 200in x 200 in at 600dpi, running on a dual-core Turion w/4GB memory. Don't know if I should expect 10 minutes run time or 10 hours.

Looking for ballpark expectations.

HD View Utilities fail to install

I tried installing them on Windows XP SP2. After clicking on the hdsetup_1_1.msi package, a window pops up almost immediately, with title "HD View Utilities" and contents "Windows Imaging Component from http://www.microsoft.com/downloads" and an OK button. I click on the button, and another window pops up, saying:

Installation incomplete

The installer was interrupted before HD View Utilities could be installed. You need to restart the installer to try again.

Click "Close" to exit.

I tried a few times to no avail.

Any ideas?
