Router Problem

I have had a Netgear wireless router for over 1 year with no problems. All of a sudden I can't get the internet on my laptop. The laptop says it's not connected and networks are available. When I click the Netgear1 button, it says it's connecting, but it can't. When I diagnose the problem it says, the wireless network key is not correct. From there I'm lost. The main computer is fine. I tried unplugging the router and that did nothing. Netgear will help if I pay anywhere from $40 to 100. I am not a computer expert, so if you can help, please take that into consideration. Any help will really be appreciated.

Windows 7 Pro Won't Connect to Windows 2003 Server but XP Will

We have a small network at my workplace centered around a Windows Server 2003 Server computer. We have NAS and several Windows XP computers connected with active directory support.

For a Windows XP machine, I simply change the domain to "domain-name.columbia.edu" and log in with the domain administrator password and the computer is immediately under AD control.

However, both Windows Vista and Windows 7 give me errors when I use this approach. The error is that it cannot resolve the DNS address. However, when I check the DNS servers (using ipconfig /all) I can clearly see the server computer's IP address which is our DNS server. I can ping the server computer and vice versa.

Is there a setting in Windows 7/Vista I need to change for it to work with a Windows 2003 DNS server? I am officially stumped! *grumpy look*

PROBLEM WITH THE CONTACTS ON MSN

i have 5 days now, facing problems with my windows live messenger (msn).
The exact problem is that i had the version 8.0 and one day the msn wasn't letting me make the connection..in order to install the latest version of msn..kind compulsory..cause in other way i couldn't sign in..
i made the update from 8.0 to 9.0 and to my surprise there were no contacts on my msn!!!!!!
i tried many ways and i also changed my windows live id but nothing happened..
what can i do in order to have my contacts back?
please help...

I am currently running Windows 7 Ultimate on my computer. Everytime I turn it on, it shows there is no internet access. When I go to network and sharing center, it shows my personal network and another undefined network. So then I vave to disable my LAN adapter and enbale it again to get the internet conection. After that the undefined network doesn't show up. But again next time I turn on my computer, same problem happens. What should I do?

Internet disconnects after 5 minutes

Hi I have been using my PC for a long time. I went away for the weekend and when I came back I recieved a problem. Every 5 minutes or so the internet stops working. There is no notification that a cable has been disconnected. When I type something into the address bar it keeps loading but the page never comes up. It's not my hardware or ISP because I booted another operating system (fedora) and it worked fine. A temporary fix I use is to unplug and replug the eithernet cable. But then the problem occurs again in 5 minutes.

Things I've tried:
1. disable internet card
2. set a static ip
3. ip/release ip/renew
4. uninstall internet card
5. restart router

microsoft.com names not resolving

I have a new Small Business Server 2003. It looks like everything is working right. I can access any web site except *.microsoft.com.

nslookup resolves the name, but if I try ping, it tells it cannot resolve the name. I have tried turning off the firewall to no avail. I have rebooted the server and flushed the dns numerous times.

Any ideas?

I hope I'm not too off topic here. I thinking this is more of a networking issue than an OS issue. Please let me know if I am incorrect. Here goes:

I have a client with a legacy accounting application that runs on a physical NT4 Server. The NT server's workstation clients are Win98 PCs (actually Win98 running in virtual machines on XP Pro hosts). DHCP is provided to the Win98 and WinXP PCs by a small internet router (actually a dsl modem). The DHCP Server service is disabled on the NT4 Server. The NT Server's TCP/IP setup has a static IP address of 192.168.0.2 and references the DNS primary and secondary DNS servers of the ISP (nslookup confirms this is working). The DHCP server function on the router has an IP range that excludes the NT Server's 192.168.0.2 address. The Win98 VMs have enabled "use DHCP for WINS resolution". This WINS server function however is running on the NT4 server (probably not needed since the clients "use DHCP for WINS resolution".

Whoever originally installed the NT Server named the internal NT domain mycompany123.com . As I recall, using ".com" was not uncommon back in the 1990s. As you are aware, small businesses use something like mycompany123.local these days for internal severs.

If I ping one of the Win98 VMs by name (ex: WIN98PC1) from the NT4 server, the name is resolved with (for example) a "Reply from 92.156.76.154 . . .". That address is obviously outside the building. I looked up that IP address and a domain name reseller has recently registered the domain mycompany123.com for sale (ie. the NT Server's domain).

I have a feeling that this new turn of events is a disaster waiting to happen for the local NT4 network. I will appreciate and comments or suggestions that you may have regarding this scenario.

Trying unsuccessfully to access my security camera by internet.

Camera's software shows upnp failure message. 2701HG router does not
support upnp. Is there a way around this? A new router?

Also, seemingly, no matter how the router's firewall settings are set,
there is no internet accessibility to any port according to the PF tester program.

My daughter is being homeschooled and she just recieved a new computer. In our house, all of the bedrooms are upstairs. My computer has broadband and we got her a linksys wireless-G usb adapter so she could get on the internet without us having to put in the telephone line etc. We're having a devil of a time just trying to get this little devil working with no luck. Anybody with any ideas?I've even installed it on my computer but no luck. There's a box that pops up that wants you to take the flash drive to the computer that has the internet connection and add it to the flash drive. We did that but no go. Any ideas?

Just installed Windows Server 2008 R2 and using BIND 9.4.1.x for DNS. The Windows server does not respond to any DNS name queries and a nslookup server_name results in the IPv6 address that is returned.

home network file sharing problem

Hi,

I have a home network of three PCs, all running WIN XP Home SP2. They are connected by CAT5 cables to a Router (EDIMAX). I established a home network with file / printer sharing. The regular applications used are printer sharing, file transfer and access of files from one computer to the other. It worked fine for quite a long time.
Recently, I have a strange phenomena: PC #B is able to view the shared directory residing on PC #A, is able to open some of the files (pictures) while it fails ("access denied") to open some other files. These files may be all in a single directory, or even are mixed - some files in a single directory do open while others do not.
I checked the firewall settings, re-established the network - yet No Go.
Will appreciate any help / suggestions.

I am trying to connect to a SAAS (software as a service) at my work. The error I'm getting is telling me I need RDC 6.1 or newer to access the site. I downloaded from this link:

Theorethically Tcp1323Opts (HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\Services\Tcpip\Parameters) bit 1 control the usage of Timestamp at TCP protocol.
At practice (network trace, XP Pro) does not matter this bit 1 or 0 MS TCP not send any timestamp (even if MS initiate the connection).
At real life if the transmission error free this does not make sense. But if some error occured then the interworking with non MS operating system (in our case solaris) is fill with trouble:

The packet (ack) is less than 64 octett, padding required. At complicated network this make more trouble.
Without timestamp the partner TCP cannot calculate the delay. The result is slow retransmit or sometimes dead end of connection.

So anybody can have TCP timestamp of XP?

i was working with a customer setting up their wireless adapter (linksys usb) and was expecting the normal window to select the wireless device and connect to it. what i ended up seeing was a different window that would have let me make a selection if one was available. the only button i had access to was the advanced button which worked as usual. what i would like to know is whether this odd screen was due to SP1 or is there some error that changes the screen to a simpler version. was there an upgrade to the view available networks screen with SP2?

Connecting to a Network Printer on a Domain

Hello, I tend to bring my personal laptop to work as I usually use it when working remotely.

I can find the network printers and install any of them but I cannot print, even the test page fails.

I figured out that this is because my personal laptop is not on my company domain. However, like for any other shared resource such as a network drive or accessing our exchange server, I would expect to be asked for my credentials so that I can connect to the printer.

Can this be done? Is there a way to print from my personal laptop to a network printer on a domain?

I'm using W7 RTM 64 bits.

Hey all,

Situation is that we bought 5 servers through a hosting compan(VM machines). They are on public IP addresses(210.48.118.xx) behind a public firewall.
We have a IPSec tunnel up to the VM's and I can RDP/PING/Tracert to them no problem.

What i NEED to do is join them to our domain.

When I change the DNS servers in the TCP stack on the remote machines, i lose all connectivity(rdp/ping etc) and need to reset the dns to what they were before(public DNS).
The other way of joining our domain would be to put DNS forwarders in the DC at my side and the DC at the remote site, correct?

I did that(maybe did something wrong) but nothing wroks.. I cant join our domain.. it doesnt resolve DNS at all!

HELP!

socket (port 554 and listining it) and another one for handling queries from Client (Windows Media

Player) and preparing proper answers. But Client does not receive video stream, although communication

between Client and Server take place. My actions:
1. I create graph for streaming videofile on senders side over RTP using MainConcept SDK. The

Network Renderer settings:
- Streaming Protocol       RTP over UDP;
- Streaming Port           1100;
- Maximum Transfer Unit    15000;
- Use RTCP                 Off;
- Destination Address      192.168.0.9;

2. Run graph and save SDP data in file. So my file containe information:

Network / DHCP

Client network is running W2K3 AD domain with multiple (4) subnets.

One of the users has XP Pro SP2 on his laptop pc (HP nc6400) and travels between sites. He is able to "consistently" obtain a DHCP address from 3 of the sites without any problems. He intermittently has problems obtaining a DHCP address from the 4th site. Some days he gets a DHCP address with no problems and on other days he can not pick up an address.

The problem subnet has a sufficient number of ip addresses available in the pool and all other users at the site do not experience the problem. I have connected his pc to different ports on the switch and still could not get an address. A virus scan of his pc using TM Officescan does not detect any malware or viruses. Ipconfig /release /renew / has no effect. The activity and link light on the nic are normal.

Any ideas on what could be causing the problem or what I can check on his pc?

Remote Desktop through VPN ?

I've a Dlink VPN Router DI-804HV (http://www.dlink.ca/products/?pid=DI-804HV).

I've established a PPTP VPN connexion from my computer (Windows XP Pro SP3) at home, to my DI-804HV Router at my office.
This VPN connexion works fine.
I can ping my office computer, but I can't do a remote desktop on my office computer!
Do you know how can I solve this problem?

At home, I've a High Speed Internet connexion (ADSL), the IP adresse of my computer is
IP Address: 192.168.2.15
Subnet Mask: 255.255.255.0
Default Gateway: 192.168.2.1
DHCP Server: 192.168.2.1
DNS Server: 192.168.2.1

At the office, I've a High Speed Internet connexion (ADSL) with a static IP address, the Router is plugged on the ADSL Modem.

The Router WAN Settings are:
IP Address: (Static IP Address)
Subnet Mask: 255.255.255.0
ISP Gateway Address: (ISP Gateway)
Primary DNS Address: (ISP DNS 1)
Secondary DNS Address: (ISP DNS 2)

The Router LAN Settings are:

I am using Disk Quota System:

First I enabled Quota on my F drive on server01. But said "no default" quota limit.

Then, I set a quota limit for myself for 110 MB under Quota Entries for New Volume.

Then I did a network copy to

\\server01\quotatest and dumped an 80 Meg file there. But it doesn't show up in my "quota"?

netmon 3.3 and perf issue

hi,

have a site that runs web application on win xp pro sp2 client. prob 50-100 desktops and they all experience issue. issue is with utilizing web app, scrolling through parts of data, screen refreshes, navigation through web app etc. data center in another city. site connected via 2 t-1s to data center. everything points to issue on client since this BUT...have been monitoring clients via perfmon and find nothing substantial stating issue is with anything client. process, memory, paging, disk, etc. all good. you will see occasional high overall cpu, high cpu from iexplore process, occasional slower disk reads (greater than 25ms), occasional high pages/sec, but nothing really bad. these would all be high values, not averages over say 4-5 hours.

the web and applications servers are always monitored and they are practically silent. not any of the above applies to them. powerful boxes and barely breath so nothing there.

i have captured packets using nmcap on 2 desktops. have netmon 3.3 all latest parsers and experts from codeplex. what types of things can i look at to determine cause? i have used highest users experts and nothing really there. the tcp analyzer is really slick but need a point in right direction to determine issue.

I'm currently using a laptop that has Windows XP Professional and I'm on a Wireless Internet Connection. I share my laptop with my older sister so we each have our own user accounts. My problem is that whenever I switch from my account to my sister's, my internet disconnects from my account. It's like the internet connection moved from my account to my sister's and vice versa. My Welcome Screen and my Fast User Switching is enabled so I don't understand why it keeps disconnecting. Thank you and a reply is most appreciated.

Bluetooth setup in XP

I have a Bluetooth connection between my T-Mobile Touch Pro2 (WinMo 6.1) and laptop (XP Pro) partially setup. They are paired, and I can click on a file on the laptop and send it to the TP2 via Bluetooth. I can also open My Bluetooth Places on the laptop, select the TP2, File Transfer and actually browse the contents of the TP2 storage card. So far, so good. But I have two significant issues:

When I select a file on the TP2 and click Send to Bluetooth, my laptop doesn't display in the list of devices by default. I have to select Menu, Show all devices each time (it doesn't seem to remember that setting). I then pick the laptop; the TP2 shows "Checking services" then "Device does not support a suitable service to perform this operation."

I have also tried to sync via Bluetooth - from the TP2, select ActiveSync, Menu, Connect via Bluetooth and select my laptop (it is displayed by default here). The TP2 displays "Establishing ActiveSync connection" then "Connection failed."

It seems I'm missing part of the setup on the laptop but can't figure out what. Below is what I know to check:

* Under Bluetooth Configuration, there are COM ports setup for both Local Services (COM9) and Client Application (COM10).

* In ActiveSync, under File, Connection Settings, I have "Allow connections..." checked with COM10 specified.

* On the laptop, under Bluetooth Neighborhood, the TP2 is listed with several services listed as being available (double-click on the TP2), but when I select the TP2 and click Properties, under Authorization, nothing is checked. Not sure what that is about.

having trouble setting up shared printing over wreless router/modem

My wife and I both have HP laptops running 64-bit Vista, connected to our Telus 2Wire 2700HG-E wireless, router/modem. (www.2wire.com) Obviously, as internet access is working, when entering Network from Windows Explorer we both see BOTH of our PCs listed, and the 2700HG Gateway. If I open the NETWORK from Control Panel and select View Full Network, both PCs are shown connected to the gateway. We both had independent licences of Windows Live OneCare installed by Future Shop (they were bought at different times). Windows Firewall is turned OFF on my laptop which i think was recommended by OceCare. Additionally, I have a Lexmark R232 laser printer (USB) connected to my laptop, and want her laptop to print directly to my printer over the wireless network.

I am using windows 2003 member server and install with FTP. When user login to FTP, they need to login by using their username example, admin@abc.local, but now they need to login as corp\admin, pls advice how can I change the login method as before, that is admin@abc.local.

my window Vista 64 bit can't connect internet

i have window vista 32 bit before and the internet work just fine, but last few days my computer crushed and i reinstall xp. the internet is still working. today, i got a vista 64 bit and try to reinstall vista to my comptuer. after i done, the connection said this coomputer has limited or no conectivity. but that is impossible cuz i am using the same connection right now. i almost do all method to try to get back on the internet ( ip renew, driver update, etc ) almost everything.

my compuer
MB :Aspire M1100
CPU : 4400+ amd 64x2 duel core
RAM : 4 GB
System : Window vista 64 bit.

i dun know why is this happening, i can connect to internet while it is window xp, but it is just too stupid if i use xp while i have vista.

My company (running SBS 2003) acquired a smaller company that also has SBS 2003. To keep things simple Server 1 will be the original company with the acquired company's being Server 2.

Our thoughts are to convert Server 2 to an email server with Exchange (we have adequate licenses on Server 1 to handle all employees).

One IT company has told us we can't do it because with both servers running SBS 2003 there will be conflicts; another has said it will work but takes some configuration efforts.

We will appreciate a simple answer. Assuming we can, we will find a new IT company to help us.

Hi Everybody,

I’m successfully created a Bridge in Windows 2003 SP2 R2 and this bridge is able to successfully switch IP packets.

My problem is that this bridge doesn’t switch BPDUs from one bridged network card to another. The weird thing is, that at the same time this bridge successfully able to switch CDP frames.

I tried following:

I disabled Firewall.

I disabled STA in registry using DisableSTA=1 key.

I recreated default setting by enabling forwarding with registry key DisableForwarding=0.

I updated bridge.sys file to version 5.2.3790.4216, but it had no effect.

Previous version was: 5.2.3790.3959

Any ideas?

connecting a wireless network

i am having a problem connecting to a wireless network with no encryption. my roommate is able to connect to it on his vista laptop however when i try to connect to it, it never connects and constantly says Performing WPA-PSK Authentication. i don't know what could be the problem. please help. thank you.

One (only) machine requires password to access network share

Five machines on an ethernet network, vista laptop with shares to all 4 other desktop machines, 1 vista, 3 XP (SP3), all 4 other machines with shares to each other.

Vista laptop accesses 3 machines fine, but one XP machine requires user name/password be entered to complete share. It doesn't do this when any of the other machines attach to it, including the other Vista machine.

All five machines have the same user and password, with admin privleges. What setting am I missing on the one XP machine that might be causing this? Because I've compared settings on all 3 XP machines and they appear to be the same, and I've compared settings on both Vista machines, and they appear to be the same, but I guess I'm missing something.
