Microsoft has created a new forums platform (MSDN | TechNet | Expression | Microsoft) with increased performance, stability, and an improved user experience. Can't install conference venue service 4. on Widows XP

While installing Conference venue service 4. I

was requested to install Internet Information Server

Installed IIS but still got the same following message:

" this setup requires Iinternet Informtion server 4.or higher and windows NT 4.0, Windows2000 or higher....

pls. IIS and run this setup again "

When I open up Conference XP in my office, I no longer see the list of venues that I used to see. Has something changed?
I was planning on using one of these for a course next week, so there is some urgency to figuring this out.

Here in Australia, we're running http://venues.conferencexp.org.au:8000/venueservice, and we can create a virtual room for various institution upon request.

Cannot create a new venue

Hi!

I am trying to create a new venue, and I suppose there is something I am doing wrong. These are my steps:

Open de Venue Service Manager

I create a venue with this parameters:

Owner: antonio_hi@hotmail.com

Name: prueba3

IP Adress: 233.31.135.0 (I have also tried with 233.31.135.1 and 233.4.12.3)

Port: 5004

Close VSM

Open CXP Client. In settings->Services->Venue Services. I select http://localhost/venueservice but I can only see the "Local Venue" venue.

Can anyone tell me what is the mistake in those steps? why I cannot see the new local venue?

I installed the ConferenceXP 4 Venue Service on Server 2003, and during the installation it gave an error:

The data file must be modifiable by the Internet Guest Account: venueservice.dat

Since the installation, I cannot getVenue or getVenues or any of the other operations listed on the //localhost/venueservice website, and the ConferenceXP clients cannot see any venues I have created when using my venue service. I have tried to give the Internet Guest Account permission to modify the venueservice.dat file but with no change.

Any ideas?

The first suggestion (Is the goal to limit a client's sending bandwidth per capability into a venue? So they are limited to 10Kbps audio + 300Kbps video + presentation Kbps + screen streaming Kbps + chat + Windows Media File Kbps) is what I want to do. The network that I am using is constrained and a lot of University networks are constrained ore will be so in the future. How should I proceed and what are the current aspects that are dealt with in the current source code?

Problems with the Venue Service Manager

I have setup the Client and Venue Service Manager as the instructions on the Conferencexp web site have instructed. I have the two stations (One running Windows Server 2003 and the other running Windows XP Pro) to only be able to communicate with one another. I can enter into the local venue and send items. What I am having a problem with is starting my own venue on the Server machine. When I add a new venue, I am not seeing any activity from the port I selected. What are the possibilities of the problem?

Hello All,
so we tried as follow (all with winXP):
2 unit PC( PC-A and PC-B) only with CXP client installed
1 unit PC(PC-venue) with CXP client and venue service installed (no reflector, no archive)
===> all PCs in IP 192.168.1.xxx , just LAN

I think PC-venue run all thing okay....IIS and ASP.net also .Net framework 2.0 installed
i defined local venue, and PC-A and PC-B also added http://localhost/venueservice.

problem:
1. in this local Venue only PC-A and PC-B can see and start presentation/chat,etc each other. PC-venue is not appear .... why?
Unicast between PC-venue and PC-A work fine.

2. If i active the camera and also voice recording, its look like multicast work, because all 3 PC are appear, but if no camera active, it happen like question number 1.

3. how can we as instructor , forbid the other clients to erase during 1 client by writing?

4. in Presenter 3.0 program from UW CSE has already manual connection to venue service (classroom 1...5 , ex IP= 234.3.0.1)
so, i made a venue service with IP 234.3.0.1 and named it PRESENTER (also in localhost/venueservice). PC-A and PC-B and PC-Venue start the presenter 3.0 programs and PC-venue choose as instructor in classroom 1 (234.3.0.1) and PC-A+PC-B try to choose as students at same classroom. But PC-A and PC-B cannot join the presentation.

I am able to set up a venue.. The venue's are visible on my computer but not on other computers... I've set the venue service key in the config file on the other computers to the server name but still nothing..
the connectivity detector service says it does not support multi-cast...
how do i get around this.. can i set up a reflector service on the same computer on which i have set up the venue.. All the computers are on the same LAN..

VENUE SERVICE with IPV6

Hi, I'm trying to use venue service with an IPV6 address.
I'm trying to setup the IIS to run venue service, but I can't put
the ipv6 address because apparently it doesn't support the IPV6 address..

Must I setup IIS with the IPV4 associated to the IPV6??

(if i do that it works, but if I want to see the venue, can I use "http://MyIPV6Address/venueservice" ??)

Can't install Venue Service on Windows XP

Hello,

    I try to install Archive Service (version 4.0) on WindowsXP. During the installation I get the following error message:

    Exception occurred while initiating the installation:
    System.IO.FileNotFoundException: Could not load file or assembly
    'file:///C:\WINDOWS\system32\Files\Microsoft' or one of it dependencies. The system cannot find the file specified.

    After that the installation process is aborted. I do not even have 'Files' directory in my Windows\system32. Any ideas on this one?

    I have ConerenceXP client and Archive Service installed already, both working fine.

Problem with venue service in win 2003 server enterprise edition

Hi.. I've installed venue service and it's ok. I can see it running.

But, I have 2 machines, the server and a tablet pc. When I try to connect both conferencexp clients in the server, I can't see the other participants... In the tablet I see only the tablet-user and in the server only the server-user...
About.. firewalls, I tried without firewall but the problem is there...
What can i do?

Problem in windows server 2003

I install the Venue Service in windows server 2003 on Internet server (Real IP) and install CXP on my machine private ip (192....host) the result of CXP when I connect to the my server (win2003) show one venue (Local Venue). What wrong on my server how to fix it.

My server environment

MS windows server 2003 with IIS 6.0

My Client

MS windows xp service pack 2

Note : when I connect to the server web site (venue service site) the system ask me for input the User name and Password (Is the cause of my problem).

Hi, I've trying to run the venue service in winxp and win 2003.
With win xp I had some troubles, but it's working now.

The problem now, is about win 2003 and IIS 6.0.
when I try to browse the venueservice site with IIS, appears the "404" error...

I tried to repair this, allowing the "active service pages" option, in the "web service extensions" folder... but it doesn't work...

I've updated my win2003 ...

any idea?

problem with IPV4 when I try to create new venue

Hi! I'm starting with conferenceXP ...
I have a problem when I try to create a new venue. In the IP address box, I tried with a 192.168.x.x IP, but an error message appears: "IP Address" is not a valid IP address.
What can I do? Help please!

Venue Service for CXP 3.5

Dear Jason,

Is there anyway you guys could throw up a venue service for those of us still using CXP 3.5? We've tried connecting to all of the existing ones on several different machines, but either have nothing but "Local Venue" or it pops up a message saying we need to upgrade to 4.0.

I'm willing to bet that a lot of us that have built our own capabilities are not ready to jump to 4.0 yet because 1) our capabilities are still using .NET 1.1, and upgrading to 2.0 still needs to be done (especially for those of us using database code which has to be modified because certain objects were made obsolete in 2.0) and 2) we will need time to test everything before we can move all of our clients over to CXP 4.0.

For the moment, we have setup our own VenueService so we can keep using 3.5, but there are probably other users out there that would still like to use 3.5 as well and don't have their own VS.

Error with creating venues

Hi,

I have three machines on which I am testing CXp. I have a machine(ip address 192.168.0.5) running the venue service.

When I go to http://localhost/venueservice/venueservice.asmx and invoke the GetVenues method I am able to retrieve the name of the venue that I created on the machine.This work if I provide my profile ID as the participant identifier and fails if I provide a false email ID. Why does this happen b'cos I read in the earlier forums that it should provde the list even with a false email ID

Is this the reason why I cannot see the newly created venue on the other machines. I have configured the venue service to http://192.168.0.5/venueservice and only Local Venue shows up. What am I missing here?

Documentation suggests IIS can support only 10 simultaneous connections. Is there a way to increase this number?

And finally are there plans on board to archive the earlier forums.

Talking to you from Galileo University, Guatemala Central America.

We are very interested in working with CfXP, therefore we started some tests but still feel very ignorant regarding the full implementation. We had succesfully started a connection between several computers which belong to the same Work Group, starting with 192.168.xx.xx IPs. We tried to connect with other groups with no success, probably because we have not enabled multicast across routers.

So it seems we need to hook up a "reflector" somewhere to be able to connect to other groups internaly. Also we had no success to create a "venue" mainly because we need to understand better how to do it, and where to place it, either within the IP group or outside, using a public IP ????

Please understand we are totally novices to conference implementation. Is it there a simple, step-by-step guide we could follow to succeed creating our conference network? The installation documents are not very clear and need a step-by-step guide for dummies (g)

A second concern is understanding how we have to configure a system to be able to set conferences with the outside web. (from a group inside campus to remote branches in the country). Do we need an outside server service such as serverpronto to place the reflector ? The reflector must be installed in a computer with a public IP?

Please help us as we are eager to try this, mainly to be able to conect without the restriction imposed by the separated 192.168... group architecture.
