You may have heard the news already:
The more important details for subscribers can be found on the OneCare team blog:
"In order for us to focus on delivering this new security solution to millions of customers around the world, we have decided to phase out Windows Live OneCare and will discontinue retail sales of Windows Live OneCare subscription service beginning June 30, 2009.
If you are a current OneCare subscriber, there is no action that you need to take at this time.
OneCare will continue to be available online at http://onecare.live.com to new and renewing subscribers at least until the new solution is available, for use on Windows XP and Windows Vista PCs. And Microsoft has committed to making sure you are protected for the life of your subscription. We'll provide more information and details as we get closer to June and the availability of the new solution. But again, there is no action that you need to take at this time. "
This news was a surprise to me, as I suspect it was also a surprise to many others. I look forward to what the future will bring, but believe that the above information should put your minds at ease for your subscription status with OneCare. As I read that, if OneCare will be sold through June of 2009, a 12 month subscription purchased and activated at the end of June will be fully supported through June of 2010 at least.
As more information is made available, I'll do my best to share it here.
And your volunteer moderators remain committed to you and Windows Live OneCare both here and in the public newsgroups.
