Locked Administrator

    I had trouble with a OneCare update. I followed recommendations to uninstall / use the cleanup tool / reinstall. The cleanup tool declares that I can't use the tool unless I'm an administrator. I'm the owner and only user of the computer - why would I need to create some kind of administrator account and complicate things - not happening.

      Save the tool to your desktop. Right click the saved file and select "Run as administrator."

      In Vista, you need to provide elevated privileges for some functionality, and this is one of those things.

      If you are using XP, you will need to log in using an administrator account if the account you are using is a Limited User.
