The automatic updates on Windows Live One Care keeps turning off on my computer and I continually have to restart it. What is a solution or cause of the problem?

Like many, I have been given a free 6 month extension to the OneCare services for the 3 computers in this circle. At the end of the first month (oct 31st), I suddently have a "at risk" (red) status on all 3 computers. Within the Live OneCare window, I am requested to update the virus and spyware protection, but pressing the update button (from any computer) produces no visible results!

Separately(?), one of the computers also lost its access to Windows Live Messenger. Rebooting the computer does not help, Microsoft Update works but does not solve this problem.

I can not thank you enough you are right and the problem disapeared. Every thing is Ok and the heart bumping red sign disapeared in a min with the magic tuoch of Microsoft.. My one care will not stay in auto update mode and I've exhausted all the preloaded help files on this problem. I keep getting the warning a status at risk warning at the bottom of my screen and I feel its affecting my ability to get on my network. All the network computer have one care installed and they dont have this issue.

I can't get Widow's Live Onecare anti-virus to update. Can you please help me?

I have gone on-line to fix my at risk status of Live Onecare and I have had no luck. I can't even turn on Windows Firewall either.

Live One Care Not working at all... Help Please

Hi all, I'm new here.

I purchased the live care last week and installed it. Was working fine for first few days but now, It's not working at all.

When I click it to strat I ge this error message...

"The Windows Live OneCare service is not working or has been stopped. To correct this problem, try restarting your computer. If the problem persists, contact support,"

I have restarted numerous times, I even uninstalled and reinstalled ans still nothing. Anyone know what could be wrong and how I can fix this?

I've been using OneCare for almost a year now, and up till recently.. had broadband but I'm back on dial-up now though that has no bearing on this problem except for the fact that my OC installation has remained active throughout.

About two months ago I had this same problem but it seemed to have resolved itself within a few days and at the time I hadn't identified it with OC. Now it's back.. and it's been several days on now.

Normally.. on dial-up.. when I sign onto the internet OC detects an active connection and the "checking for updates" notice will be visible in the main menu for a few minutes as it checks and/or downloads updates. Thereafter.. while still online.. it will usually finish and display the manual "check for updates" link. For this reason.. I usually don't even open my browser until I see the network activity icon in the systray go dark.

Starting again about 5 days ago.. I noticed the icon (the one with two little monitors) staying on indefinitely after signing onto the internet (both monitors lit - incoming and outgoing.. solid.. continually). When I click on details it does indeed show both incoming and outgoing packets being continually transmitted; although the incoming (downloading) amount is much greater (10 to 1) than the outgoing (transmitting up) and all total.. I'd say I've downloaded about 150 megs in the last 4 or 5 days. At first I thought maybe I "caught" something but OneCare showed nothing on scans and I even installed a couple more spyware apps to use.. both came up clean. Then I noticed that the "checking for updates" message was remaining on (EVEN when I'm not connected to the internet!).. it seems to be stuck.

I think I've pretty much narrowed the "bandwidth" hogging to this OneCare problem. First I deleted all my firewall exceptions and reset to defaults. The only thing I figure CAN'T and WON'T be queried by the firewall now.. is OneCare (at least.. I've never seen IT come up asking for permission). Also.. when I used "Reset permissions for OneCare" option under Help>Questions & Answers>Help with updating OneCare automatic-fix option.. for a few brief moments while there were two command prompt windows on my desktop.. the connection icon went completely dark.

I have very few other programs running in the background.. and NONE that automatically update or check for them.. on the internet.

This is driving me nuts.. mainly because as long as this semi-"unknown" program is somewhat running and hogging my bandwidth in the background.. I can only download at about 1/4 my normal spped.. even surfing is suffering. I need to turn it OFF.

Un-installing and re-installing OneCare altogether is a very last resort as now that I'm back on dial-up.. downloading the base program and all updates since.. takes about a half a day!

Any suggestions? My thanks to all for your time & attention.

BTW.. one last thing I forgot to mention..
OneCare itself seems to be working fine in the meantime. It performs scheduled scans and always shows the definitions "up to date" as of the current date.. even though it seems to be constantly checking. I have version 2.5.2900.28 and it DID download an application update for itself.. seemingly about 2 months ago, which took awhile in the background.. but as I recall.. it told me it was doing so and that doesn't seem to be the case now.

Windows OneCare updated itself last night and rebooted, but my computer was acting weird and then it crashed. Now I can't boot up the computer, not even in Safe mode. When I pressed Delete to go into setup, there were two choices--Windows XP or Windows Recovery Console. I chose XP the first time, didn't work. Had to go back into setup again, chose Windows Recovery Console. That took me to a blue screen that said if I had reached the screen for the first time, to try restarting my computer. Tried it, didn't work. Back to setup again. I went through the Windows Recovery Console and got the blue screen again, it says if this isn't the first time I reached the blue screen, I should dothe following: "Disable or Uninstall any anti-virus, disk defragmentation, or backup utilities. Check hard drive configuration and check for any updated drivers. Run CHKDSK /F to check for hard drive corruption and then restart computer." Problem is, I can't uninstall anything if I can't boot up. I don't know how to do any of the things that were suggested if I have to do them in DOS. Please help! This is my business computer and I need access to my business files right away!

Also, I tried to go to help online at the Windows Live OneCare site, but there's no way for me to contact someone for help. It's asking for my product ID, but all I have is the Product Key and the number on the certificate of authenticity. I'm having to try to get help from my husband's computer, but he doesn't have the same license for Windows Live OneCare that I do.

I am a registered, fully paid-up Windows Live OneCare user. My operating system is Windows XP (32-bit). My OneCare will not download antivirus updates. I have followed all of the instructions to fix this, except uninstalling and reinstalling the software, which is very difficult on our home dial-up connection. I am interested in manually downloading the updates, but the help information does not apply to my operating system. It only applies to Vista and Servers. I've copied in the Article ID below. Pop-up box for update: What does this mean?

About 5 minutes ago, a pop-up box from OneCare appeared over my Office browser. It said there was an update; that OneCare would be unavailable during the update; and, that I should not shut down or restart my computer.

I don't recall this ever happening before. Does anyone have an idea what this update was?

Over the past several days I have done numerous system restores that may have caused problems for a few programs. Today I was alerted by One Care ( OC) that updates were missing. Each time I attempted to download OneCare's updates by clicking the update button, one or two of the following occurred: 1. the firewall and antivirus turned off; 2. OneCare closed and when I reopened it, it was blank; 3. it froze; 4. it attempted to download the updates but failed.

When I restarted the computer, the icon would not appear until I opened OC in the Start menu. I used the tool to fix update problems which I read about in this forum: http://www.microsoft.com/downloads/details.aspx?FamilyID=4bc2594b-95ab-4235-b5b8-41656b38480f&DisplayLang=en w/o success.

This is the information the tool left behind on one of the notepads entitled, "Caclsdeldb_error": ERROR: cacls "C:\Program Files\Microsoft Windows Onecare Live\Database" /T /C /E /G (name):F error code = 8023 . There is another notepad, "Cacls Delete Database," with more information.

I have given as much information as I remember, plus the FF browser also became corrupted and could not be opened. I was forced to uninstall and reinstall it again.

Any assistance with OC would be greatly appreciated.

Oh, so I did uninstall one care and now when i try to download a new version, I try the free demo model and it freezes the link also

I just read on web that updates shall not be available for OneCare as it has been discontinued with effect from 30-06-2009 and Marro is being launched. Is it true?

My Malware protection is "off." I'm getting the following error message.

Windows Live OneCare is on but is reporting its status to Windows Security Center in a format that is no longer supported. Use the program's automatic updating feature, or contact the program manufactuer for an updated version.

There are no updates I don't have according to OneCare. Every time I log-in, I have to click on this new (and annoying) red shield with a white X to restart my firewall. Does anybody know of a download or have any advice? I want my firewall to just STAY ON for starters.

· A tool has been developed to resolve the recent Windows Security Center issue which resulted in the Security Center showing “yellow” status for Malware Protection with the error message “Windows Live OneCare is on but is reporting its status to Windows Security Center in a format that is no longer supported”.

There are 2 versions of the tool, one for 32 bit versions of Windows and one for 64 bit versions of Windows.
In order to identify whether you have 32 bit or 64 bit Windows, please follow the steps below:

1. Click Start

2. Right-Click on “Computer” and choose Properties

3. Under the “System” heading look for “System Type”

4. You will either see “32-Bit Operating System” or “64-Bit Operating System”

In the Windows Security Center, the "malware protection" tab remains yellow. In the box for Virus Protection, it states that "Windows Live OneCare is on but is reporting its status to Windows Security Center in a format that is no longer supported. Use the program's automatic updating feature, or contact the new program manufacturer for an updated version." All other "security essentials" are on and green, but "malware protection" is yellow and says "not compatible."

Also, Windows Defender is on and working.

I've updated all I can; Windows Live OneCare can't find anything else to update. So I don't know what to do. This is very out of the blue. It has never happened before. Thank You.

I have 2 separate Small Business Server networks with Windows Live Onecare activated, some weeks ago Onecare stopped receiving updates on both servers. I've checked firewall settings, trusted sites and many other possible solutions listed on these forums, but no luck, WL Onecare is in the same contidion.

I know that WL Onecare is about end its lifecycle, but I need it working until we decide on an a alternative.

By the way, ¿is really microsoft not releasing a replacement for WL Onecare?

Any help will be appreciated.

not sure if this is where I post this,

Just read about the dissolving of Live One - that probably explains this notice from my security center.
And another post about the same issue with lots of tech talk and complicated procedures.

On my lap top, vista 64 bit, home premium,
my windows security center says:
virus protection not compatible
Windows live one is on but is reporting it's status to Windows Security center in a format that is no longer supported.
Update through the Live one program or contact manufacturer for updated version.

Is this being resolved via an update?
Anyone tell me what I"m supposed to do now? OR what does this really mean to me?

Plus: can someone please tell me if I NEED to turn on Windows Defender?
according to another post, Live One disables it?

I paid for my update in November and again in January. It is still about to expire and will not update anything. I am sooo tired of this. It cannot possibly be that hard to just get this to work. Now my computer is a mess because of the lack of protection. I want my money back or get this fixed.

I have uninstalled Microsoft Equipt and I want to know what I should use as anti-virus and spyware control? Should I wait until Morro comes out or purchase something else? I really liked OneCare Live but have already received my refund for the month I had left on it. The website said to uninstall it ASAP though - so I did but now I'm worried about viruses, etc. HELP?

I recently installed Onecare from Qwest's highspeed internet connection installation disc and cannot get onecare to check for updates. I've been on the phone with their tech support several times - still no solution. I tried what support.microsoft suggested - downloading and running mpam-fe.exe.

I also tried another solution offered through clicking on the error message "balloon". The message in the ballon: The update to Windows Live Onecare did not complete. A required update to Windows Live Onecare could not be downloaded to your computer. Click this ballon for more informatiom and to troubleshoot. When I clicked the ballon, it launched a site that instructed me to find the inf folder, right click au then then install. That didn't clear up the problem.

I also uninstalled Adware 2009 and Windows Defender. As far as I know, there is no other malware, adware, etc. stuff running.

I have no idea of what else to try. I did e-mail microsft support, but when it was collecting my computer's information, it shut down my browser. I've even tried to update manually by going to windows updates. For the first time ever (and I've been using computers for a long time) the updates failed.

And I do have my computer set for automatic updates from Windows - have had it set on that for years.

Can anyone help? I am good at using computers, just not troubleshooting and I'm not very technically oriented.
