In both cases you subscribe to a mailing list. But in case of a newsletter, we (Windows Academic Program) send all the subscribers messages with the news, while in the case of a discussion list every subscriber can post a message. In other words, the discussion list works like a forum, but it all happens in your mail box. Let's discuss this.

And another question: would you like us to post here information about Windows Academic workshops we conduct now and then around the world? Would you like to have pre-announcements ("such-and such workshop will take place then and there")? Would you like us to post and discuss "trip reports"?

Thanks,
SergeMon, 20 Apr 2009 23:09:14 Z2009-04-20T23:09:17Zhttp://social.microsoft.com/Forums/en-US/projectoz/thread/5777292a-c0c3-4cc5-b76a-46530e175162http://social.microsoft.com/Forums/en-US/projectoz/thread/5777292a-c0c3-4cc5-b76a-46530e175162Serge Lidinhttp://social.microsoft.com/Profile/en-US/?user=Serge%20LidinFrequently Asked Questions (FAQ)
Q: Do you have any guidelines on posting to the forum?

A: Here are a few suggestions to make sure you get the best answer to your question as quickly as possible:

· Search for the keywords of your question in the WAP forums before posting – it's likely someone may have already answered your question, and you won't have to wait for it to be answered again.

· Post in the correct WAP forum (there are 3: Curriculum, Windows Research Kernel, and ProjectOZ) – this will ensure subject matter experts who may not read all of the forums will see your question.

· Make sure your title summarizes the specific problem or question you have – since we try to answer the maximum number of questions we can with our time, we often skim through question subjects to quickly find the ones that we know the answers to. A question with a title of "Urgent! Based on the SPACE OS research at UC Santa Barbara, ProjectOZ builds simple, clean user-mode abstractions for the CPU, MMU, trap mechanism, and physical memory using the native NT layer of Windows, and then layers on top a simplified kernel-based OS which students can modify to perform experiments. Because there is an actual OS underneath handling the hardware details as opposed to a simulator, students have more time to explore kernels at the algorithm and data structure level. ProjectOZ supports experiments with multiprocessors and multicomputers on a student's single uniprocessor PC.

Q: How do I get ProjectOZ?

A: ProjectOZ is currently available for download at no cost at http://www.facultyresourcecenter.com/curriculum/pfv.aspx?ID=6547

Q: What license is used for ProjectOZ?

A. One should work on a small patch application(like cygwin) so that one can use Linux based application in windows more friendly than ever. Why Apple is popular among academicians? do you think it is their safari or ipod? not at all all... it is OS X. Why google is popular among academicians? do you think it is their adsense or else? no it is their search engine that contian everything a person working in academia. Atleast this is what i think.. ProjectOZ is a shared source operating system project environment that uses the native kernel interfaces of Windows to provide simple, clean, user-mode abstractions of the CPU, MMU, trap mechanism, and physical memory that can be used to perform experiments in operating system principles. Its intended use is for teaching operating system fundamentals to computer science students worldwide through ProjectOZ based assignments and research projects. This forum is dedicated to questions and discussions specifically related to the ProjectOZ source code and operating system project environment. We encourage students and faculty to post questions, project descriptions, or general discussions related to ProjectOZ and to share ideas on how to use it more effectively in the classroom.

For more information about ProjectOZ, please see the ProjectOZ homepage.

For general operating system or development questions unrelated to ProjectOZ, please use your favorite general OS or development forums or newsgroups.

Finally -- as moderators we try to keep spam and inflammatory comments out of the forums. However if you do catch something that we missed, don't hesitate to use the “Report Abuse” button so that we can keep the forums on-topic and a friendly place to go for help with your ProjectOZ questions!
Thu, 15 Feb 2007 23:28:58 Z2009-04-03T22:02:09Z
