My project plans look and feel is not consistent between Gantt Chart view and Detail Gantt view. In Gantt Chart view it shows all the right formatting- fornt colors, filled cells etc. but when i switch to Built-in --> Detail Gantt view, i donot see any formatting.

    what am i missing?

Formatting is an attribute of the view in which you apply it.  If you apply text formatting, such as cell background colors, in the Gantt Chart view, you will only see this formatting in the Gantt Chart view.  The system will not apply it automatically in any other view, such as the Detail Gantt view.  This means that you can apply different types of formatting in different views for different purpose, which is a good thing.  So, my friend, you have not missed anything.  You are seeing the default behavior of the tool!  :)  Hope this helps.
