Is there a way to add Custom Date formats in MS Project?
e.g. I need to display date as mmm-yyyy (Feb-2012). The available list does not include such a format.

It is not possible to apply a customized date display format to Project in application level.
We can display date values of any field in another custom field using a formula. For example, the following formula in Text1 field displays Start dates in mmm-yyyy format: Format( [Start], "mmm-yyyy")

Since you can't anticipate what other PC's settings will be, Project User's suggestion of using a custom Text field is the better option.
