Default Enterprise Project Type - Project Server 2010

Our organization had a consultant help us set up Project Server & they recommended we leave in the "default" Enterprise Project Type in Project Server 2010. Additional Enterprise Project Types were created during the configuration. Now that we have deployed the tool, inexperienced users are selecting this default Project Type and getting confused. This can definitely be corrected through more training, but it seems this could be avoided altogether by deleting the "default" Enterprise Project Type. I do not want any users to use this "default" Enterprise Project Type.
Is there any harm in removing this default Enterprise Project Type?

I have not specifically tested this scenario, but off the top of my head, here are the limitations you will face, if you want to delete the default.
- You will be forced to select another project type as the default, which means now users could be selecting this project type in error, as this is the default.
- You will not be able to have a project plan template for the (newly Selected) Default Type, so, making an one of your configured project types default, will make you lose the project plan template.
- You will not be able to have Departments associated with default Project type (i.e. newly selected). Depending upon your configuration, this could be a negative as well.
Personally, I tend to lean towards not deleting any default stuff in general, unless absolutely necessary ( with enough testing).

Sunday, May 20, 2012 6:50 AMWhile the first item is true (as long as there is a default, there's risk of selecting it :-)), the others are not really. You can assign a project plan template to any EPT, and departments can be used for any EPT as well.

Catalin,
I am not sure I agree with you.
When you make any EPT as the default, you can no more set a department or a project plan template to it. That is why you cannoy set a project plan template to Basic Project Plan which is default to start with. The same applies to any other EPT that is set as default.
In addition, the departments set to any EPT wiil be UNSELECTED when you make that EPT as a default. and further the department selection box becomes unselectable.
