Answered Forum Search error

    I keeping getting an error message when trying to use the forum search function.  This has been an issue for over a month.  When is this expected to be resolved?

    To add to this question, when I use the forum search function, instead of results I get the error "Unexpected Error" for my results. There are no other details given. The URL at this point is

    http://social.microsoft.com/Forums/en-US/search/SearchPrivateForums?searchTerm=ink%20art&scopeType=PrivateCategory&scopeData=partnertsa&currentScopeType=Category&currentScopeData=partnertsa&page=1

    I'm also getting the same results when trying to search the forum.   "Unexpected Error"

    Are you sure you're logged in?   FWIW I get your first symptom with the above URL even when I'm not logged in.   When I'm logged in and try to go one level higher I get   

    <quote>
    You are not authorized to perform this action.
    </quote>   

    Looks like GIGO to me.   Do you have an example which involves a publicly accessible forum?   ; )

    If someone is not logged in, then the error should reflect that and not an unexpected error. Marking this as an answer is saying that the bug is a desirable result, which it is not.

    Can you repro and detail the steps? I can't repro this. Also, in your link above, it's a Partner (private) forum. So we should take that into account if you're searching in that forum without being logged in (you shouldn't be able to even get there).

    I am sorry, but I do not remember those details. If I click on the link I posted above, I get the error today if I am not logged in. I have no idea today if I was logged in back then or how I got there if I was not logged in. If I login, I do not get the error today and I can search.

    I never did like the Broken As Designed answer. If the forum is closed, then the page should not be presented in the first place, not when someone tried to use a feature there. However, there are more important things to do and I am happy to close this as never answered and perhaps the next incarnation of forums will work differently. I do have a nagging feeling that there is a case where you get this error even if you are logged in.
