I'm looking for an Open Source client that works with OCS.. I found the Pidgin client that also supports SIP/SIMPLE protocol ( http://developer.pidgin.im/wiki/ThirdPartyPlugins ). Does anyone of you know if this is compatible with OCS? So far I have not been able to get it working.
PS. I have tested the new Communicator client for MAC. It works like a charm with OCS.....

As far as I know there is no Open Source client for OCS
On your link I found this that might work for LCS 2005
But keep in mind that Communicator 2005 does not support Enhanced presense in OCS 2007
So it is clearly not updated to OCS 2007

As far as I can see there is no activity anymore on developing this plugin. Would Microsoft not be interested to make this compatible with OCS? I have customers who need Open Source clients to connect with OCS. Communicator Web Access is not offering the required functionality yet.

They did create a communicator client for Apple OSX
Sunday, October 26, 2008 7:20 AMYesterday I was playing around with some IM clients and I thought it would be interesting to share the following.
The Miranda IM client works with OCS(!).
The only thing that is not working (yet) is advanced presence. In this case other users cannot see your presence at all once you have advanced presence activated in the user account.

Wednesday, February 25, 2009 5:48 PMWe have had some success with an older plugin for Pidgin (formerly GAIM) that was written for LCS2005 (we are on ocs 2007 r2)
Monday, July 20, 2009 11:28 AMSIPE project (Open Source)
supports Communications Servers up to the latest version 2007 R2.
Enhanced presence is supported.
Starting with release 1.6.x it supports multi-party IM conversations as well.
We support users in the following organizations to mention a few:
- CERN (the European Organization for Nuclear Research)
- Reuters Messaging network
- Deutsche Bank
- Merrill Lynch

Saturday, August 29, 2009 7:47 AMMost of the instructions to install the open source client are very clear.... the only thing you should keep in mind is to install the OCS root certificate on the linux desktop that connects with OCS.. (especially if you are using an internal certificate authority)
