How do I enable my mobile device?
You can send alerts to your people from any mobile device you have verified in Microsoft Vine. Verified mobile devices show an enabled status, and unverified devices show a Not Activated status.
To verify a mobile device:
- On the Vine dashboard, click Vitals to open the Vitals drawer.
- If you have not already entered the device you want to verify, add it by clicking Add mobile, entering the number, selecting a carrier from the list, ensuring the Receive Alerts check box is selected, and then clicking Save.
- From the mobile device whose number you just saved, send the text message, activate or #activate, to 84630 to enable the device.
- Confirm the mobile device is enabled by checking that you received a text message response from Microsoft Vine on your mobile device and the mobile number you entered appears as enabled in the Vitals drawer.
If you get an error please see the post, "I'm having a problem activating my mobile device", for more information.

- I keep getting Access Denied to my texts. How long does it take to propogate?
Are you using T-Mobile as a service provider for your mobile device?
T-Mobile is still experiencing problems which they are actively working on to fix. Users will continue recieving an error "Access Denied" when sending Activate to 84630 until this is resolved. T-Mobile is aware of the issue and we have been told that they expect resolution by 5/15/09- Hmm. I'm not even getting anything back. At all.
Sprint here, by the way.
Welcome to the Social - 6/15/07 - why isnt there any support for UK Carriers :(
- I am sorry, Matthew, this beta is designed for use in the United States only. By its very nature, Vine has to integrate with news sources, carriers, and other points of contact that are inherently local. We hope to expand coverage of Vine over time to include additional countries, as we enhance the capacity of the service and on-board local partners. In the meantime, while there's nothing preventing you from experimenting with it in the UK, you can unfortunately experience only a fraction of its features.
My apologies again, and hoping to be able to serve you better in the UK shortly. - Silverskull, in Vitals, does the box to the right of the mobile number say "ENABLED" or "NOT ACTIVATED"? if not activated, can you try sending the message "Activate" to 84630 (aka VINE0)?
- It's not activated, and I've actually tried that twice.
EDIT: Wait, no, 3 times.
Welcome to the Social - 6/15/07 - Thank you for trying. We are investigating.
- Few more questions to get more details.
- When you sent "activate" to 84630 did you see message from device that showed “Message sent successfully”? (this would ensure that your device did indeed send the message out)
- Are you able to send text message to any other phone numbers properly (this would ensure you have signal).
- When you text "help" to 84630 do you get any response back?
- Could you please check if your phone number shows up in vitals drawer properly? (to ensure there is no typo).
Thank you for your patience while we investigate the issue.
- My device indicated that the message was sent successfully (it's a checkmark on a BlackBerry).
- I am able to send and receive SMS and email, my signal's fine.
- I get no response when I text "help" either.
- I checked, there is no typo.
Welcome to the Social - 6/15/07- Hello Skull of Silverness,
Curious to know if you have had any success previously in sending text messages to short codes? As a test to see if short code sending is enabled on your phone/plan, could you try sending a text message to 65246 and let us know what response you receive in return?
Thanks,
Ryan Battle - Haha, Skull of Silverness. I like that.
Anyway, it's interesting because I haven't tried short codes before. That hadn't occurred to me. So that's the MLB short code... but no, I don't get anything. I'm now thinking it's either on my end or a problem with Sprint. I know it's probably worked for other Sprint users, but it could be something with the BlackBerry...
So yeah, not on your end.
Welcome to the Social - 6/15/07 Yes Sir Skull of the Shining Silverness, aks SSoSS,
We checked with our SMS integrator and didn't see any errors for any carriers so the next thought was that although you may be able to text message, you may not be able to use short codes on your plan. Found that MLB short code and thought it be a decent test.
Good Luck,
Ryan Battle- UPDATE:
T-Mobile is now live on Vine. Feel free to use your T-Mobile phone with Vine by adding your phone number as an endpoint in Vitals.
Thanks,
Ryan Battle - Just got notification "Enabled"...took about an hour over Verizon. So far very cool app.
Keep math information free...it's the great equalizer. - k12math,
Glad to hear you like the application. The "Enabled" can take a while because of how the client works with the service but you should have gotten an SMS message back right away. If you have a moment can you just confirm that you got that message back even if the client didn't change to "Enabled"?
Thanks for testing our beta and for providing feedback!
Chris - I have confirmed my mobile # (Virgin Mobile) is supported in the list of carriers
I have confirmed the text address 84630
Have sent the message #activate
activate
ACTIVATE
It has been over three hours and still not activated
What next? Please advise.
P.S. Yes I am cheap, Virgin Mobile works for my amount of phone usage.

Sent text to that number and received no reply. Is that good or bad? Since I don't have a plan with this pay as you go service I will look into "short code" issue and see what I come up with. Do I have an option if my service doesn't work with short codes?
Thanks for the reply.
