How do I organize my people?

You can organize people with a common theme into groups, such as a neighbors group or a school association group. This makes it easy to send alerts and reports to the right people all at once.

To create a group:

1. On the dashboard, click People.

2. On the People drawer, click Create a group.

3. Enter a group name and an optional description for the group.

4. Double-click People from the People Directory to add them to this group, and then click Save.

Note

Once a group is saved, view it by clicking the group name on the Groups tab of the People drawer and note the group short code and e-mail address associated with the group. If you carry a Microsoft Vine emergency card with you, write this group’s name next to the appropriate group code, so you can send alerts from any mobile device you enable with Microsoft Vine.

Do groups in Vine have any relationship to either categories that we set up at http://people.live.com or groups at http://groups.live.com?

There is no connection between contacts in Live.com. This is something we are considering for future releases.

Ok cool. Well my hand is firmly in the air. Not just for contacts either - it'd be nice to integrate Vine groups with my categories at people.live.com and groups at groups.live.com.

Can/will groups be shared? In other words, if I set up a group for my community will everyone in that community have to recreate the group on their own? Or once I set it up and they join, will they be able to send alerts to everyone in it?

"This is good feedback. In the future it may be possible to create a public group that others can join, or be invited to. In the Vine beta, groups are more of a private construct, not unlike groups in Windows Live Messenger."
