StickyWhat can I do to troubleshoot connectivity issues?

If you have problems when you sign in to Microsoft Vine, try any of the following troubleshooting techniques to correct the issue:

Check your Microsoft Vine service status

    ·          On the sign-in window, click the help icon, and then select Service status.

    Check your Internet connection settings

If you previously connected through a dial-up network, check your Internet connection settings:

    1.     Start Internet Explorer.

    2.     On the Tools menu, click Internet Options.

    3.     Click the Connections tab.

    4.     Click Dial whenever a network connection is not present.

    Check your firewall settings

If your firewall is set to block Microsoft Vine, you'll be unable to sign in. Make sure that the software is set to allow Microsoft Vine to operate, and then try to sign in again.

Adjust the Windows Internet Explorer proxy settings

    1.     Start Internet Explorer.

    2.     On the Tools menu, click Internet Options.

    3.     On the Connections tab, click LAN Settings.

    4.     Check or Clear the Automatically detect settings check box.

    5.     Click OK, and then click OK again.

I have tried all of the mentioned problem resolving techniques, but Vine is still sending me the following error messages 6-8 times per hour: "The connection with the Microsoft Vine service is lost".
In the next moment the following: "The connection with the Microsoft Vine service has been restored."

My internet connection works fine, this is probably a Vine issue.

Thank you Gergő for reporting this. Vine shows that message when it attempts to connect to the Vine service for periodic updates, and fails. It attempts again later, when the "restored" message is shown. This can be caused by an intermittent Internet connection, or (gasp!) the Vine service going down. I am not aware of recent downtime in the Vine service, but it could have happened and might happen again during this beta.

If you are still experiencing excessive connection lost messages, will you be able to share with us some information about your Internet connection? ISP, bandwidth, DSL/cable/dial-up, wired/wireless, network adapater type and proxy settings could help. Thanks you for your patience and for trying out Vine!

I am getting this problem occuring with Vine as well. Its the only program that has problems and mine are exactly the same as Gorgo's. It is constantly losing the connection. It really renders in useless IMO as I can't then have it open.

Thank you technogranny for reporting. This helps evaluate how prevalent the issue is.  Can you also share some detail about the Internet connection in use? ISP, bandwidth, etc. will help us evaluate how to fine tune Vine's tolerance to connectivity issues.

Thanks again for reporting and for evaluating Vine!

Not had any connectivity problems with other applications.

Technogranny, Gergő -- I wanted to let you know that while checking your reports, one of our developers isolated an issue where Vine could indeed report disconnects when in fact there aren't any. We'll get that fixed as soon as we can. Thank you for helping make Vine better!

I'm running Vine in Win7 RC.  I could swear it worked once - I Tweeted about trouble early on, but running the app with elevated privelages fixed the problem at the time.  Now when I start Vine and sign-in it stays on the "Signing in..." screen and doesn't stop.  Mesh, Live Mail, IE8, Skype, etc - they all indicate that I have a working network connection.

I checked everything in the initial post of this thread - nothing seems to have helped.

    Any ideas?

    Hey Bleak,
Under \microsoft vine\log there are log files that are associated with each client restart. If you could forward a few of those that were created during the 'infinite' sign-in that would be helpful in seeing what the hangup might be. send to vine2052@live.com.
    thanks,

Mine looks like it's trying to connect.  It say's "signing in" and the vine pulsates, but it never connects.  I'm at work, could it be a corp. firewall or AVG or Untagle?  I don't have any problem with other microsoft products (messenger/live mesh/etc.) or google talk.

I have the same problem. Vine just sits there trying to log on but never makes it. Checked the firewall and it is allowed.

    Hi,

This issue could also be related to network connection. If possible, please move the computer to a different network environment as a test to see how it works. Please post back with the test results. Thanks!
