QuestionUnable to Download Vine Beta on Vista 32 bit PC Receive Error Message

My daughter tried to accept my invitation to download Vine Beta onto her Vista 32 bit PC, but receives an error message and is unable to do so.  It refers her to a temp folder for more information.  She found the folder in her App Data folder and tried deleting it but upon another attempt to download received the same error.  Can anyone help with this, I can't find anything in the forums about it?  Thank you.

    Hi Sheila144,

I'd love to help you figure this out, but first can you tell me what your daughter was doing when she received the error? Was she downloading Microsoft Vine, for instance? Also, can you provide the text of the error message? These things will help us get started with a solution.

    Thanks,
    Anne

    Hi Anne,

I'm so sorry I didn't get right back to you but I wasn't notified that there was a response to my query and I just checked back in tonight.  My daughter was trying to download MS Vine Beta when she received the error message but I'm not sure of the exact wording of the error message.  I'll be traveling tomorrow but I will try to get an answer for you tomorrow and will post as soon as possible with the message.  Thank you for your help in this matter, it is much appreciated.

    Thanks,
    Sheila

    Hi Anne,

Thank you for your patience.  I had my daughter try to reinstall and disable her firewall first but still no luck.  She has a Vista Home Premium HP computer and is getting the following message when she tries to install it:

The following error occurred attempting to install
    > 'http://go.microsoft.com/fwlink/?linkid=142245':
    >
    > "Application not found "
    >

    >
    > See the setup log file located at
    > 'C:\Users\Tracie\AppData\Local\Temp\VSD901C.tmp\install.log' for more
    > information.

She tried to delete the entry in the install.log but that didn't help either.  I was wrong initially when I said she couldn't download Vine Beta, now it looks like it was downloaded but won't install, although I'm not sure because of the "Application not found" message.  Thanks for any help you can give us with this.

    Sincerely,
    Sheila

    Sheila,

Sorry for the delay. I was locating an e-mail account we use to accept log files, because I would like to see the log file reported in the error message. Would it be possible for you to send us a copy of the log file?

Please send the file to EMAIL GONE, so we can address the specific issues your daughter is having with the installation.

Thanks so much for your patience,

    Anne

P.S. - Please identify yourself in the e-mail so the log file is easy to track to this issue. Thanks!

    Hi Anne,

Thank you for your response.  I have forwarded your information request to my daughter so she can send it on to you.  I was unclear, however, about the address you want it sent to.  Could you please let me know the exact email address to send it on to even if you do so in an email to me?  I've asked her to include my user name in the subject line of her response to you.

    Thank you again.

    Sheila

    Sheila,

I really don't know why the email account I entered in the message is not showing. I'm trying to get an answer, but in the meantime, I'll try providing it again in this message and hope that it shows properly.

    Again, the email address is:

    EMAIL REMOVED

    Hope this works!

    Sheila,

Still having trouble showing the email address in this forum, so I'll try writing it out rather than using the ampersand symbol in the address. Please send the file to "vine2052atlive.com".

    Thanks,
    Anne

    Hi Anne,

I apologize for the delay but my daughter was called out of town over the past week and did not have internet access while away.  She has now sent you a copy of the log file to the email address you provided and you should have it by now.  I look forward to your reply.

    Thanks,
    Sheila

    Okay, Sheila,

Looks like the download process works well until the installer tries to download the MSI (installation) file from http://go.microsoft.com/fwlink/?linkid=142245.

So, I'd like your daughter to type http://go.microsoft.com/fwlink/?linkid=142245 in the address line of her web browser, press ENTER, and see if she can download the file from there. In the File Download dialog box, she should click "Run" to start the download.

    Cheers,
    Anne
