If I set up a group for my neighborhood, it looks like as of right now everyone in that neighborhood will have to recreate the group on their own.  That group and list of individuals will quickly become disjointed and out of date.

Are there plans to let a person set up a group (like an email alias) that people can join and subscribe to?

This is good feedback. In the future it may be possible to create a public group that others can join, or be invited to. In the Vine beta, groups are more of a private construct, not unlike groups in Windows Live Messenger.

It's not just for public groups, if I set up a Tisdale Family group, I'd want to make it so that anyone I invite is automatically connected to each other.  Same for a Little League group, a work group etc.

I understand the desire for your own classification for oneway blast messages but you're breaking the model on the replies.

Jamey, this is very good feedback.  We don't support this now but we will add your request to our list for consideration in an upcoming release.
Thanks for testing Microsoft Vine Beta,

Since the Vine Team is willing to look at the construction of groups, when setting up a group, add me to the list as supporting Jameyt's suggestion of having multiple options available for creating groups.

The Family, Little League, Neighborhood Groups that Jameyt described is one option, which would have Jameyt as "owner", and anyone added or removed to that group would be under the control of Jameyt (with a possibly designated co-owner).  All members of the group would receive the same updates.   In essense, this would mimic Windows Live Messenger but with the advantages of Microsoft Vine.

The other option would be Personal Groups that that operate like a bc message.  Thus, the Family Group I create would be owned by me but members of my family could create their own distinct family groups.

I too was looking for this option. I wanted to use Vine for my neighborhood security group. Right now we use Yahoo groups to sent out emails or alerts. But in order to do this with Vine I would have to add all the people fromt hat group to my vine group and ask all of them to do this too. This would never work and most likly make it so that people will not trust the service because you can't be sure everybody has you added to there list as well.

We had some breakins latly and we use the email DL to let everybody know about it.
