1. I like that I can get to Facebook.
2. I would like to be able to import friends/family from Facebook.
3. I would like a "Twitter" like option to set up a list/text from phone thru Vine to go directly to Facebook.
4. Would like to send notification via facebook mail. i.e. a list of friends that I go out with "Hey I am here" and it sends them mail thru Facebook.

Keep math information free...it's the great equalizer.

I am trying to load Live One Care on a second computer but have forgotten my Live ID. I have tried opening help and looking for it under 'About etc", where it says it should appear alongside my subsriber ID. In fact neither subscriber or Live ID appear. Any idea where I can find it? all the online help functions require me to sign in with my live ID, not much help in the circumstances!

Unable to Download Vine Beta on Vista 32 bit PC Receive Error Message

My daughter tried to accept my invitation to download Vine Beta onto her Vista 32 bit PC, but receives an error message and is unable to do so. It refers her to a temp folder for more information. She found the folder in her App Data folder and tried deleting it but upon another attempt to download received the same error. Can anyone help with this, I can't find anything in the forums about it? Thank you.

I have had Vine installed for about a month, but I cant get it to validate my Windows ID log-in. It says that I am not registered with Microsoft Vine. It than transfers me to a web page where password entry windows pop up all over the place and the window crashes. Any help would be appreciated.

Does anyone know if Microsoft is still enrolling people in their private beta testing of Microsoft Vine? As of October 2009, there has been little information as to if/when the beta testing will be finished. There are many of us who organize/volunteer with CERT (Community Emergency Response Teams) in our local cities and look forward to using Microsoft's Vine application into our communications during a disaster.

Portable Vine Client

It would be nice if all situations where you would want to utilize Microsoft Vine occured when you are sitting in front of a computer where you have the client installed, but that won't always be the case. I hope that a future Microsoft Vine Client could be designed to run entirely on a USB thumb Drive, that way you could carry it with you at all times and if necessary plug the thumb drive into someone else's computer and be up and running in a matter of seconds. It goes without saying that the more operating systems you supported via this approach the better, as you never know what kind of computer you may have available to use at a moments notice.

Changing Windows Live Login ID associated with Microsoft Vine

I signed up for the Microsoft Vine Beta with my personal Windows Live ID (EMAIL GONE). In the mean time I have logged onto the Microsoft Custom Domains and created a Windows Live ID associated with my non profit organization (EMAIL GONE) and I would like my Beta Account changed to that Windows Live ID instead. What is the procedure for doing such a thing?

I noticed that http://m.www.yahoo.com/ although added to my restricted sites has just started working on my computer.

I want to restrict that exact website so that the computer will default to the usual http://www.yahoo.com Somehow Yahoo has managed to get around this --or is it Microsoft allowing yahoo to get around this issue. I'm using Internet Explorer 7.

Do you have a way to restrict my computer from automatically changing the main yahoo web page to the annoying m.www.yahoo.com webpage?

Not sure how to reply to the answer given below so I'll just edit this original text, but I already clear my cache and so on as described below, which doesn't work, which is why I sought out this forum.

What is annoying mostly is that it is listed in my restricted sites but when I go into yahoo mail when I click "sign out" it takes me back to m.www.yahoo.com instead of the www.yahoo.com page. If Yahoo decides to required everyone to use m.www.yahoo.com instead of www.yahoo.com I believe they will transfer m.www.yahoo.com to the www.yahoo.com page. In the meantime I should have control over my own computer, especially when there is a "restricted" sites option inside Internet Options...

Therefore I think that somehow Yahoo is in cahoots with Microsoft or vice versa. Otherwise, how would they be able to bypass that situation?

It may seem like a trivial annoyance but if you think about it, what if you made a security setting regarding something malicious but that malicious item was able to overide your security setting?

If this is the wrong forum then please direct me to the right forum. If you are a Microsoft programmer then please report this bug so that I can have control over my own computer again.

When I click on a news Icon, I would like it to go to the webpage, but on a built in browser (Instead of opening IE seperatly). I would like to also see a slim version for those of us who have light notebooks for travel. So far, other than these two things I am loving Vine.

Change the regional settings to match location within Vine

One question I have, is there a way to change the regional settings to match your location. Being from Australia, we don't deal in miles, only kilometers. Maybe Vine could automatically detect your regional settings and change to suit? Just a suggestion.

It occured to me that since it appears that up to 10 email addys and 10 mobile devices can be added for each user account in the account Vital tab, you might be able to do a phone tree type of thing with one person managing the whole thing.

They would build the levels and groups and each of those Vine accounts could hold up to 10 emails and mobiles.

The top level person (manager) just adds those top level people/groups as people and adds them to a group and presto, SMS alerts start cascading and emails start going out...

Or is there something I missed... Is there something in Vine that would not permit this?

If I missed the obvious then I am sorry. I am trying to install on Windows Server 2008 R2 and the MSI errors and states 'The systems administrator has set policies to prevent this installation'? I have tried running in compatibility mode and still it errors? Any ideas please? Thanks

I got invitation to signup for Vine, after all steps completed successfully I have downloaded Vine and trying login using my Live ID but it says "Microsoft Vine could not sign into the server. Please try again later.

Can somebody explain me what the message is? and how to resolve.

I just logged into Vine for the first time, and I set up my home address in Vine, but when I went to look at local news, (and it shows up on the right place on the map) the first item it gives me is an article about the San Jose Earthquake soccer team!

San Jose is thousands of miles away, and I hate soccer!

OK, maybe its's a quirk, I'll try the next local item..... BIG12SPORTS.COM!! WTF?? I don't care about college football either, and there are no big12 teams near me.

The third one has to be local news.... A SAN FRANCISCO GIANTS SPORTS BLOG!

Is this a functioning service, or is it "Random Sports Spam.com??"

To be fair, the FOURTH news item was actually local news.

Is this a known issue? Is there any way to prevent all the random stuff I don't want?

Had Vine crash on you, or refuse to start? -- We are sorry for the inconvenience. This isn't the experience we were hoping you would have with Vine, and we would like to make it better. This post lists some of the causes to crashes, and what can be done.

Known issues
There is currently one known issue that could cause the Microsoft Vine beta to crash. There could be more issues lurking in there that we do not know about yet. As those are reported, we will list them here.

1. Not English, or outside the United States
When Windows is set to use a locale and language different from English (United States), Vine sometimes crashes when it attempts to start, or when you click the "Places" button at the top of the Vine window. The issue is under investigation and will be fixed when possible. Vine is known to work well within the United States and with a US locale. One temporary solution could be to set the operating system locale to English (United States) and start Vine again.

What to do when Vine crashes
If you encounted another type of Vine crash, please post a note on this forum. We will attempt to reproduce the issue and fix it when we can. We will likely ask you for information that will help us reproduce and isolate the problem, including:

1. Some information about the computer and operating system you are using with Microsoft Vine.
2. Vine log files, which may shed some light on what Vine was trying to do just before it crashed.
3. In some circumstances, we may ask you to run the Vine diagnostic script, which logs additional information about the computer, in order to help identify the cause of the problem.

BCC (Blind Carbon Copy) and initiating Alerts through Email

Vine customers have the ability to issue Alerts to their Groups from any email client. This is achieved by entering the group email address in the TO: or CC: line of an email and sending it from an email address that you have registered(and validated) with Vine. For example, if I have already:
1. added and validated ryan@mydomain.com to Vine as an email endpoint
2. invited contacts into my Emergency contacts group (84630)
3. added a secret pin to my profile (eg.. 0101)

Then, from ryan@mydomain.com inbox I can send an alert to my Emergency Contacts via email by sending it TO: (or CC:) 84630.0101@vine.net Because this address contains your secret pin it is recommended to not include other email addresses in this alert.

BCC (or blind carbon copy) field may not be used to send alerts because, by definition, any addresses entered in the BCC field are not sent as part of the message body and are not viewable by any recipient, including Vine. Therefore if BCC is used in this manner we will receive the message but not know to which group you are wishing to have this alert distributed to.

Please use TO: or CC: when sending alerts via email.

Error message during install

I've tried running the setup a few times but keep encountering the following error message from Windows Installer: "This installation package could not be opened. Contact the application vendor to verify this is a valid Windows Installer package."

I've tried saving the file to my desktop and running it from there as well, but continue to get this error. I also verified that I have the updated .Net Framework installed.

I registered my email on the vine site. But never received the email. One of my friends then sent me the vine installation file which I installed. My initial activation with the word ACTIVATE in caps did not get a reply for my Verizon phone. However by changing it to lowercase it does work as I got a reply immediately. I suggest the instructions be updated to reflect a lowercase 'activate' as I think it will be less confusing for testers.

I realize Vine is in beta, but I curently just don't "get it". It is a great idea with tons of potential, but trapped in an almost useless (to me anyway) form.
(A) Why a separate app, with a separate contact list? It seems more logical to exend Messenger to do these things; I already have a grouped lists of my closeset contacts, and my friends and I use it already. They nor I want to run yet another app "just in case" something bad happens, or to simply update my status. If I send out an SOS, I probably also want to communicate with somebody. Combining Vine with messenger or SMS is only logical.
(B) If something bad happens, I'm probably not going to be near the computer, I'm not likely to have internet access (or power), and texting my status would be one of the last things I'd worry about. I was in the 1997 Grand Forks, ND flood; power was out for days and the cellular system was overloaded and unusable. I don't think SMS/internet would work anyway even *if* I had power for my phone/PC. BUT... the POTS system somehow stayed up just fine. In a disaster, simple and robust beats hi-tech every time.
(C) If something less drastic happens, I'm not likely to use this. For example, if my car breaks down by the side of the road am I going to whip out my phone, send a text, and then sit down and wait? No, I'm going to be calling a tow truck, a friend, 911, or whatever, and get an immediate response with immediate confirmation. With Vine, I have no way to confirm if anybody got my SOS. On the other hand, how do I keep multiple contacts from responding? Friend #1 shows up to give me a ride, and five minutes later friend #2 arrives only to learn that they wasted their time, therefore making in even more unlikely that they'd pay attention to what Vine tells them in the future.
(D) Vine needs to be a location-aware mobile app that always runs in the background. I want to be notified when something bad is happening near where I (or my friends) actually ARE. I want to push a help button and have my contacts know not only my situation, but my exact location as well. In a disaster scenario, I want to track my friends (a-la Google Latitude) to make sure they "made it out/home/wherever" safely without having to ask.
(E) This location awareness needs a server-based element to remember your most recent location(s). Example, say I crash my car leaving me immobile/unconscious and my phone broken. But lucky for me, a location aware version of Vine was running on my phone, periodically sending location updates to the Vine server. Once my friends realize something is wrong and cannot contact me, they log onto Vine and get my last known location to start a search... or my last two or more locations to determine a vector for where I was going when I went offline.
(F) Maybe MS should partner up with public safety organizations the way it partnered with health organizations for Health Vault. Clients can recieve public safety alerts, and users can forward their (or other's) location data to the authorities to send help to those who need it.

Hi,

I'm having difficutly with Vine. The problem experienced is that it integrates with Virtual Earth and so, to add places (near my location which is Pretoria, South Africa), is just not working. When I search for the locations it's simply does not find the street names, only drills down to the city name itself, and the "Pin" to point the location is stationary, by design ?

In any case, nothing wrong with the new and nifty Vine program, just the lack of info on "V.E.'s" side. Sorry to say but comparing that specific location information to the likes of "G.E.", I'll have to have to stick with G.E. for now... And to allow the user to switch from VE to GE is probably a superfluous request.

We have received feedback and questions from folks outside the US who have reported various problems. We did not plan on having beta users outside the US because some of the key features like SMS messaging and News content won't work at all right now. We will need to partner with non-US wireless carriers and content providers in order to get the full functionality to work in other countries. Since we didn't have that in place we decided to beta test in the US only.

We have discovered that there are other problems with non-US use of Microsoft Vine beta including:
1. Places not resolving addresses correctly
2. Address entry not support non-US fields (zipcode is required etc.)
3. Crashing bugs with international locations, address entries, switching windows and other interaction issues on non-US operating systems.

Beta is only supported in the US. We will add non-US support in the future. In the mean time, if you run Vine on a non-US OS or try to use features outside the US it may not work as expected.

How do I change my Contact Name?

When I setup my Vine account, the display name on my Live ID was incorrect. I have since changed to the corrct display name but the Vine account Contact Information is still incorrect. How can I change my Vine Contact Information to match my Live ID?
