Also have you checked your bios to make sure all your sata ports are enabled. I know when I bought my gaming PCs motherboard I had to enable ports.

I am not sure buying a new motherboard at this time will allow you to do just a server reinstallation. I have tried this aswell, when I was having problems on my WHS, drives added keep going missing and these are attached to a SATA card as my motherboard is old and doesnt have sata ports. So anyway my wife said to use her motherboard as it is a dual core motherboard an has 4 onboard sata ports. When I went to do a server installation all I got was a new installation.
HMGFri, 03 Jul 2009 08:10:04 Z2009-07-03T08:10:04Zhttp://social.microsoft.com/Forums/en-US/whshardware/thread/4f4d60a4-fe26-4ea5-bffa-7c1ecbad48f2#159d7763-f514-4dfc-ad4d-faa263658660http://social.microsoft.com/Forums/en-US/whshardware/thread/4f4d60a4-fe26-4ea5-bffa-7c1ecbad48f2#159d7763-f514-4dfc-ad4d-faa263658660AMCrosshttp://social.microsoft.com/Profile/en-US/?user=AMCrosswhs sytem drive replacement NO reinstall optionWell its now failed at

"Restoring the archiever data "

why are things so hard sometimes :-(Fri, 03 Jul 2009 09:06:19 Z2009-07-03T09:06:19Zhttp://social.microsoft.com/Forums/en-US/whshardware/thread/4f4d60a4-fe26-4ea5-bffa-7c1ecbad48f2#c5e854f7-7c9c-4d25-a7a2-ed97271861cehttp://social.microsoft.com/Forums/en-US/whshardware/thread/4f4d60a4-fe26-4ea5-bffa-7c1ecbad48f2#c5e854f7-7c9c-4d25-a7a2-ed97271861ceAMCrosshttp://social.microsoft.com/Profile/en-US/?user=AMCrosswhs sytem drive replacement NO reinstall optionHenryMGray

i have now managed to get all my drives noticed but it fails as per the above thread and tells me to try againFri, 03 Jul 2009 09:07:28 Z2009-07-03T09:07:28Zhttp://social.microsoft.com/Forums/en-US/whshardware/thread/4f4d60a4-fe26-4ea5-bffa-7c1ecbad48f2#dd87076f-38f2-4e02-b900-fe11218e5c3ehttp://social.microsoft.com/Forums/en-US/whshardware/thread/4f4d60a4-fe26-4ea5-bffa-7c1ecbad48f2#dd87076f-38f2-4e02-b900-fe11218e5c3eOzBrownhttp://social.microsoft.com/Profile/en-US/?user=OzBrownwhs sytem drive replacement NO reinstall option
A point to note with WHS is that the basic install is based on Windows Server 2003 and does not support some motherboards that Windows XP or Windows Vista may support.
