Hardware Problem: Event ID 9 and 15.
- I have an issue I would like some opinions on. I know based on the errors in the logs this is a HW issue, but is this a Defective piece of HW or an incompatibility problem?I have a Rosewill 8 Bay Sata Enclosure. This bays 1-4 and 5-8 each connect to a seperate channel on the the Sata Controller Card it came with which is a SIL3132 Chipset. This device has worked flawlessly for over 1 year. Two days ago since I was running low on space I added 2 1.5 TB drives to the Enclosure. I put one in Slot 3 and the other in Slot 6 so each is using a different channel of the card. Currently 3 drives use Channel 1 and 2 Drives use Channel 2.Since Adding these Drives (which were added to the pool without issue) I have had an issue where all the drives on one channel of the SIL3132 disappear from WHS. If I reboot the WHS box they return. I have experienced this issue two times so far and on each occurence it happened on the Opposite channel so that would seem to indicate it is Not a Bad Cable, A Bad Hard Drive or a Faulty Channel on the Controller.I have since upgraded the Driver and Flashed the BIOS in the SIL3132 Card to the latest from the Silcon Image Site. I currently have the WHS Powered Down until I can get some direction on this issue. So I do not know yet if this step will resolve the problem. The Drives I have added are the following (And I do not see any update for BIOS\FW for these drives)The Enclosure is the following:Here is a snippet from the system event log from the Second Occurence of this issue:10/30/2009 10:02:13 AM PlugPlayManager Error None 12 N/A WHS The device 'SAMSUNG HD154UI SCSI Disk Device' (SCSI\Disk&Ven_SAMSUNG&Prod_HD154UI&Rev_1AG0\5&b23db35&0&010100) disappeared from the system without first being prepared for removal.10/30/2009 10:02:12 AM Application Popup Information None 26 N/A WHS Application popup: Windows - Delayed Write Failed : Windows was unable to save all the data for the file C:\fs\1P\$BitMap. - UPDATE:
This issue has not reoccured since Flashing the SIL3132 Sata Controller Card BIOS to 7.7.02 and updating to driver Version 1.0.22.4.I have copied several hundred GB of test data since the updates without issue. Hopefully this is resolved. *FINGERS CROSSED*- Proposed As Answer byOlaf EngelkeMVP, ModeratorMonday, November 02, 2009 8:30 PM

- Could be a damaged disk, but also could be a problem with the controller or its driver, cabling, termal issue, lack of power ...
