AnswerCan WHS be used as a print server?

    I can't find much info about how WHS operates as a print server.  I would like to use my WHS to share a printer attached to a Windows 7 client (Brother HL-2040) with my Mac computers.

    Any thoughts?

    It's not supported (since it requires logging into the server desktop in order to set it up).  The best course of action would be to get a network-enabled printer (or a local-to-network converter box) and plug your printer into your router/switch.  Having said all of that, it can be done with some effort on your part.  As long as you install only the drivers (not the full printer software suite) on the server and set up the sharing properly, it should work.

    I have an HP printer (usb connect) that I plugged into my Acer WHS then went through the printer set up process and set it to be a shared printer. Then when I went through the add new printer on my laptops (vista) the option to install the WHS HP Printer popped up and presto, I print wirelessly. :-)

    Don't know how it works with MAC but sure works good with Windows.

    yeah I have a Cannon, Printer, Copier, scanner all in one, I have it plugged into my Home server aswell, the thing is though, is that you have to remote desktop to the server to set it up, but if your Printer is an all in one, then you will have to  remote desktop the server everytime you want to scan, as this method only allows you to print, from the network.

    Henry, what you need is a network all-in-one. All the major manufacturers make them, though exact capabilities vary a bit. YOu connect it directly to your network, and install driver software on all your home computers.
    I'm not on the WHS team, I just post a lot. :)
