問題 Perfect Storm Failure - Cleaning up lost files.

While trying to upgrade the drives in my WHS I encountered what I am calling the perfect storm.  The worst that can happen did.  Pre-storm setup.  Main HDD 200G, 2 additional 160G drives.  I was getting warngings that there was not enough room to create the duplicate for my Music File.

First issue.  There was over 50% of the above configuration showing as free space.  Why was there not enough room to double up 35 gigs of data?

Continuing with the perfect storm: Added a 400G drive. Removed one of the 160s. Added a second 400G dive and proceeded to remove the second 160.  I needed the 160s elsewhere.  While the 160 was removing itself, the first 400 crashed fatally.  Now some of my data is there.  Some WHS tells me that the file is moved or deleted.  All of my folders duplications are failing.

I managed to recover most of my files by powering off my WHS and taking each of the drives and searching for my files in the hidden DE, or something close to that, folders.  Then returning the drives to the WHS box.

2nd issue.  Now I have failing duplicates.  So I turn all duplication off.  I also remove (from WHS) the failed drive.  All of my folders show healthy now, but  some of the files are still missing from within WHS.  When I try to delete them, they say that the files is moved or missing, would I like to create the location? (in order to delete it?)  I tried to recopy all of the files back to the folders where they should be and this worked for my Music folder, but I had to hit retry about 500-1000 times because WHS could not read from the location or file.  (I am guessing it was having trouble deciding to replace a "lost" file with the file I had to replace it with.  My next folder had many more files in it.  I do not want to hit retry 20k times.

Is there a way to clean up all of the missing files?  I would not mind simply deleting everything and copying all of the files back, but WHS wont let me.

I can format all of the drives, reinstall and start over, but that is not a very elegant solution.  Please help.

There is a possibility that you can use some of the steps in this forum thread. I'm thinking of the 2nd post by Dileep in particular. If that doesn't work, then I would reinstall and start over. It's not really so bad at this point, and you've got a lot of additional experience with WHS to help you over the rough spots now. Smile
