I have a cluster installed with Win Svr 2008 Ent and Win HPC 2008. We are going to add a couple more nodes to be installed with Win HPC 2008 r2. Can different OSes work in a cluster? Or do you recommend standardization i.e. installing one version OS (e.g. Win HPC 2008) on all nodes?

If your head node is currently HPC 2008 then you would need to upgrade.

However, you can have a HPC Server 2008 R2 head node that supports the following on-premise nodes:

    Workstation Nodes (Windows 7 - x86 or 64-bit)

Compute Nodes (Windows Server 2008 / Windows Server 2008 R2)

Broker Nodes (Windows Server 2008 R2)

    Hope this helps.
