I have a new HTC Tilt 2.  It's great, except that in Mobile Outlook the touch interface is not nearly as convenient as the scroll wheel on the original Tilt.

In the Mobile Outlook "view inbox" list of emails...
When using the touch interface, there is no way to move the select focus to an arbitrary email in my inbox without first opening the email.

I'd like to be able to use the phone with one hand, it would be very helpful to reprogram the volume buttons to scroll the select highlight up and down the email list.  I can then use my reprogrammed "ptt" button to open an arbitrary email, and then maybe use the volume buttons to scroll up and down the email text.

If there is an alternate way of selecting without opening, and scrolling without using my other hand, please let me know.
    Thanks.

Hello. You might consider another alternative to the TouchFLO3D or WM6.5 interfaces, SPB Mobile Shell:

You can watch the YouTube video to see if it is right for you. You seem to be able to flip through emails without opening them. The problem with reassigning buttons is that the function needs an executable or else another button must do the function. There is a program AE Button Plus:

However, you have to have a d-pad or some way of scrolling with a button already to map it to the volume controls. Not sure about one-handed operation or if this helps...

I am sure you are enjoying your new device but like all of us, we get used to convenient methods of doing our work and when it changes it is difficult to adjust.  I agree with fiat_lux on the suggestion to use Spb Mobile Shell.  Setting up a widget on one of the screen to read you email using the 3D selection is absolutely incredible.  I would not want to be without it ... it is that good and deals very effectively with just the issue you want to addrress.

I urge you to give it a try (http://www.spbsoftwarehouse.com/pocketpc-software/mobileshell/).  There is a trial then you can purchase if you like it ... my guess is that as soon as you try it, you will buy it before the trial expires.
