Windows update on mobile 6.1 connection to server failure
- I have just aquired a Samsung Omnia and after a lot of fuss managed to get it to connect to the internet (WAP) via my Vodaphone pay as you go service. I still cannot get it to connect to the MS Windows update server to check if there are any updates for the system software.
The error after it times out, is the standard 'connection to the update server was not available. ..................check the date & time.'
System info is Windows mobile 6.1 pro CE os 5.2.20270 build 20270.1.3.1
I have tried accessing the server via WiFi and my home PC with no luck.
Help please

- There is another thread in the forum discussing the same issue.
The problem has not been resolved, MaryAliceC from the Microsoft Windows Mobile Team has asked the team to look into it.
I have used the update function before and it has worked....however, in the last month or two it stopped working. I receive the same error message as you have posted, and am with Bell Canada.
The other thread is : "Using windows update in WM6.1"
Hope this helps.- Marked As Answer byDeeranwith Saturday, July 18, 2009 9:05 AM

- Lots of people are having the same problem....I have the Bell HTC Touch Pro, and have recently encountered the problem. I believe the problem is not from our end but the Windows Update Server.
- Thanks Maelstromme
That makes me feel a bit better! Did your problem resolve? Do we know if Microsoft is aware of the issue and doing something about it or has it fallen into the 'too hard basket'? - There is another thread in the forum discussing the same issue.

- Thanks for all the info. We will just have to wait for MS to sort it out!
Mark - I figure I'll chime in too - the exact same problem on my Telus Touch Diamond. I had been having connection problems with my Vista PC and thought this might be related but I guess it's just another (unrelated) MS problem.
- Same goes for my Motorola Q

Same for my LG GT810 (latin american version of LG INCITE), with wm6.1.

- Just so you know, i'm having the same problem in Australia. Come on Microsoft. The phones got enough problems as it is.
- Thank you all for your reassurances, at least I know I am not alone. I use a new Samsung Omnia II and an Acer DX900. I cannot get connected up to windows update with both handsets. However, I have no problem surfing the net with both of them. Looks like the problem is not with the handset nor the manufacturer nor the ISPs.
Would be grateful if someone can resolve that. Regards. - Same prob from Germany, couldn´t get any update since I got my HTC Kaiser.
Is the problem solved in the meantime ?
THX - Well MICROSOFT is there anyone out there from your organisation who has followed this thread and come to the conclusion there is a problem to be addressed?
If so put your head above the parapet and let us know what is happening with in the ivory towers. I can see you have a lot of very unhappy clients out here.
We all look forward to some communication from the communications giant! I have the same problem with my Verizon connected Samsung SCH-i760 in California.
What's more disturbing with Verizon is. I bought this phone because it has Wi-Fi connection, so I can save on not having a data plan with the drawback of only being able to use the data connection when there is a Wi-Fi. Verizon did not understand that would happen when they sold an Wi Fi enabled phone. When they later realized that, the started to disable functions on my phone like multimedia messaging, Verizon sync with your e-mail…..Verizon even stopped selling Wi-Fi enabled phones.
So I clearly thought the Microsoft update was just one more casualty in Verizon’s eager to charge me for a data plan. Reading this forum tells me that it seems to be Microsoft who gave up on mobile OS. By not responding to a forum on there own website they obvious tell everyone that reads this “Microsoft doesn’t care about there customers, please bring your business elsewhere”.
I think it´s the same game like stopping XP.Imho M$ forces the customers to buy a new device with WM 6.5.“Microsoft doesn’t care about there customers, please bring your business elsewhere” .
If that's the way M$ is forcing people to buy WM 6.5 i have a better idea got my phone for little more than a month now let M$ buy it back for 700 euro and let me buy a google phone because this is NOT the way to take care of your customers because we will recommend others who are looking for a new phone NOT to buy anything with M$ on it! So for the love of God fix this minor problem because it ain't the phones it ain't WM 6.1 it's a server problem!!! Update server problem!!!
- Hi, I've had the problem ever since I've had my Samsung Omnia - March 09. (UK based) There are so many annoying niggles with 6.1 that I'd hoped that there were fixes ny now. In fact I found Windows 5 better on my old phone. We should all be able to upragde to 6.5, don't you think ? Come on Microsoft, this could be a massive market for you ..................
- i hope it'll happen soon as this as been down for a few months now
- aha! Thank you everyone for being so clear in your notes so that my web search found this thread!
I have been wracking my brains trying to get my htc Ozone (new through Verizon July 1, 2009) to do a Windows Update with <gasp!> the very same results as all of you. I thought I was doing something wrong, so finally went over to Verizon tonight to see if they could help - the "tech" didn't even know WHERE to find Windows Update - I had to show him. The other "tech" that was bragging to another customer how much he knew about all the phones didn't even know what to do...
I have the Nationwide + Canada package and sync my e-mail with our Zimbra servers at Wayne State University - I could even take a picture of a moose in Quebec and send it to Facebook! Why can't Microsoft get me to the server with their own software to do an update???
I too am very relieved to hear all the reports... in the sense that I now know it's not ME, but Microsoft. I'm off to do some more hunting... I'll return if I find anything to alleviate our troubles (even if it IS moving to 6.5)... - Update. Well as we all expected as of November 2009 Microsoft have done nothing! But then Windows 7 is out and taken all their meager resources.
Still very unhappy Mark I have been a big fan of Microsoft for many years now and I am getting to the end of the line on this. Windows Mobile honestly sucks had it not been for slick software like SPB Mobile Shell. They need to fire all the engineers and hire fresh creative minds. Needless to say, my Omnia is unable to connect to Microsoft Update!
- No idea if anyone else noticed this as the last post here coincides with the last noted update on the page, but...
http://www.microsoft.com/windowsmobile/en-us/meet/wm65-upgrade.mspx
Sez here only certain phones will be upgradeable, with more to come (or so they say). Since I already see the Omnia 2 there (going back to the OP) I have little to no hope of the original Omnia being updated... which effin' blows. - i have the same problem with my acer f900 im hoping that microsoft are going to sort the problem soon as im suppossed to be eligable for the 6.5 upgrade and this is or so im told by acer how i will recieve the software update.
It has been down for quite a while now as i thought it was problems with my phone after having several windows mobile handsets. - Glad to have finally stumbled upon this as I thought it was me. I have a Samsung i760 and am also unable to update using Windows Update. This is the exact reason why Microsoft continues to blow their reputation. They don't care. I'm off to try the Android OS.
- Dear Microsoft, if you can hear me, I'd like to tell you that YOU SUCK. I have bought a Windows mobile phone only for the ____ application, because for WM they are a lot, but after 2 months of HTC S740 i can say that Windows Mobile is something ridicolous, the worst OS for mobile ever created. Nokia 3310 was more customizable, fast and stable. You suck.
Linux will destroy you.
