Syn recurring events with 2 PC's
Syn recurring events with 2 PC's
- Does anybody use a Smartphone or other WMD to Sync between 2 PC's using Outlook 2007? I can't seem to solve the problem that when I setup a "one year" (annual) recurring event in Outlook 2007 on one PC, then Sync it to my WMD, and then, using my WMD, Sync it to my second PC (also Outlook 2007) it ends up as a recurring event every 12 years. I've tried everything, even setting up "dummy" profiles in Outlook 2007 on 2 other PC's and still end up with the same problem! It occurs when using a Samsung Omnia smartphone or an HP iPAQ rx1955. My WMD uses Win Mobile 6.1 Prof and both my PC's use ActiveSync v 4.5.0 (Build 5096). I can't seem to get any response from MS....is there no hope for a resolution...doesn't anybody care!!!!!!!!

- I've had that occur as well Vinnie and am not sure why. Fortunately, it has not happened a lot and to the best of my knowledge, it does not happen on all on my annual appointments.
I might suggest that you have an "end date" to the event. I started adding end dates (because of another issue) and have not seen the 12 year issue in quite some time. I'm not sure if it is related but it is worth the try IMHO.

- There is another thread that is worth looking at Vinnie.

I mention in that thread that in my case they were ALL Day appointments (birthdays etc) so I decided to take the offending items and make them from a specific time (9am-10am) and used the reminder for once a year. So far that has worked for me. But more importantly, Laura gives a tip on how to check if you have any that are set for 12 years rather than 12 months. It is worth looking at.

- I've tried end dates of 1yr, 2yrs, etc and nothing works. I tried deleting the annual recurring date and reentering a new one, but I get the same result. I do know how to "search" the calendar using "certain" criteria and so I'm able to find the recurring events even when they are changed from the one year to the 12 year. This only happens using Outlook 2007. In Outlook 2003, there is no option for multiple years, so all events can only occcur every year. This only began happening when I upgraded to Outlook 2007. Is it possible that ActiveSync needs a patch to handle the Outlook 2007 option of multiple years? Isn't there anybody out there who has a solution?

If you open Outlook on your PC Vinnie and go to Calendar and click on View at the top then click on Current View and change it to Events. In the list that will now appear, you will see what events are set for a yearly Reoccurance

If my memory serves me well, it also happened to me using Outlook 2003 ... (but I'm not 100% sure about that).
What I can say is (like you) I found it very irritating. I believe that it was (and is for me) related to syncing multiple devices. On those that kept reverting back to 12 years after I had changed them, I started to change them as a single appointment set for a specific time (8-9 am) rather than an all day appointment. Although it is not an optimal solution, I no longer have the fear of missing a Birthday or Anniversary. Of course I still get a reminder and so far, that has worked for me. In addition, as Birthdays are appearing in my calendar, I am slowly changing them to that format so eventually I will have them all like that.

http://www.mobilitysite.com- I have the same problem when syncing between Outlook 2007 on Windows 7, a Windows Mobile 6.1 device, and Exchange 2003 SP2. Really annoying. Sometimes it also changes yearly recurring appointments to happen every 144 months instead. I hope this bug gets fixed with Outlook 2010 (or a service pack... or anything.)
- I am getting the same issue as well Adam ... it is very annoying. I have been removing those that appear and have been changing them from "all day" to a specific time (8am). Certainly not optimal....

http://www.mobilitysite.com - I have 2 yearly birthdays that I really want to be reminded about, but EVERY time I edit them to be 1 year instead of 12, it syncs between Outlook and Exchange and goes back to 12 years... and gives an error in ActiveSync! Jeez! Did all the suggested work arounds here too... I'll just delete those two then.
- Try it as a normal appointment with a set time (say 8am) and a yearly reoccurance and see if that works.

http://www.mobilitysite.com - I have the same issue. It's extremely frustrating and none of the suggested methods, such as setting an end date or changing to every 12 months, works.
I'm using Outlook 2007 (SP2) on two machines. One with XP Pro (work) and the other with Windows 7 (home). My handheld device is the HTC Imagio running WM 6.5 and is set to sync with work's Exchange Server 2003.
I created several new recurring events on the Windows 7 machine, sync'd with the HTC, no problem. At work this morning I sync'd and all appeared ok. However, when I got home tonight and sync'd, all the new recurring events were changed to repeat every 12 years. Some were even changed to every 12 years from 1:00 AM to 1:00 AM, instead of 12:00 AM to 12:00 AM. To me, that sounds like a potential daylight savings time issue, but not sure. Any thoughts?
Also, the XP machine and WM 6.5 device use GMT as the time zone, where Windows 7 uses UTC. I doubt that matters, but who knows.
I can't believe Microsoft hasn't come out with a fix yet.
Any suggestions are greatly appreciated.
Ron - Me too. Similar setup as above. HTC Touch Pro 2 upgraded to WM 6.5. Two machines running Vista and Windows 7. Office 2007.I'm a little uncomfortable with the idea of setting an end date on people's birthday recurrences... it just doesn't seem right :P Or wedding anniversaries for that matter - especially mine!I think I'll try the timed appointments option (e.g. 8am) - it's a bit annoying to get reminders at midnight a few days before people's birthdays anyway.Paul

That has worked well for me Simpsoid
