AnswerWindows Mobile and using a Web Cam Program

I just started using Windows Mobile 6.1, on a HTC Mobile Device.  HTC, as well Verizon and Microsoft state you can run a webcam on this phone, and OS, however I have found no webcam program that will work.  The program that I was sent upon installation stated it was not a valid program bor Windows Mobile.   So,  I am simply trying to find what webcam works with Windows Mobile.   Now, to be more specific, when I state webcam,  I am using the device to access a DVR camera system that is connected via the internet.   All routing etc. is accurate, as I am successful in using my laptop to get into the public IP of the router, and then through my linksys router to the DVR camera system.  I simply need my mobile device to have the same access when I enter the Public IP within IE on the mobile device.  Again, I was told I need a webcam app, however maybe all I need is some plugin to allow the traffic to pass.   Thank you.

I don't think it is possible to change the core operating system of a windows mobile standard phone (these devices do not have a touchscreen) to a windows mobile professional phone (these devices have a touchscreen).

You might try out Mobiscope Client for Smartphone on your windows mobile standard phone.  All you need to do is download the .exe file to your computer, then select the file and an installation wizard will popup and prompt you through the rest of the installation.  If your phone is connected to your computer and ActiveSync or WMDC is running, the application will be installed to your phone; if the phone isn't connected to your computer, the application will be installed to you phone the next time you sync it to your computer.

Okay, you don't really want to use the windows mobile phone's camera as a webcam, you just want to view a webcam from the windows mobile device?  Is that it?  How are you currently viewing this webcam from your computer?  Are you simply opening up a browser and inputting the IP address?  So are you looking for an application like this one or this application

Sorry for delay.  Correct, I simply want to address a public IP in IE and see my cameras connected behind a comcast modem and a linksys router.  I was told by HTC to use a webcam program from their website, however I now understand from HTC that I need to upgrade from windows mobile 6.1 to windows mobile 6.1 professional.  At that point I am told JUST like my laptop I should be able to go into IE on my phone adjust the security settings and then enter the public IP address of the comcast router, and then based upon my current authentication and port forwarding, I should be able to pull the cameras.  SO, my next question.  I have tried and tried and for whatever reason I cannot find a upgrade or download for Windows Mobile 6.1 Professional.  Any help here????   Thanks, Dan

The HTC Ozone is the device.     HTC, nor Verizon has been able to confirm to me that the Ozone can or cannot run Windows Mobile 6.1 Pro.   At the end of the day, all I need the Ozone to accomplish is to be able to access a public IP address to my Comcast router, and through port forwarding(working), access the DVR/Cameras at my business.   On my laptop, I simply use IE, and like magic, I am viewing all my cameras(activeX function), had to be enabled.

So, does anyone no how I can leverage my Windows Mobile 6.1 standard phone to access the cameras, verse upgrading to Windows Mobile 6.1 Pro.   I would imagine another non 6.1 pro program could work, however it needs to be a valid Windows CE application to have a succeddful cab file installation on the phone.  Any help please.  Thanks, Dan

Hello. You can try the Skyfire browser. It is the most PC-like that I know for Windows Mobile and it should run on a non-touchscreen device (e.g. standard).

    http://www.skyfire.com/support

    http://www.wmexperts.com/short-take-skyfire-10-wm-standard

It runs YouTube so video streaming shouldn't be a problem. Don't know about Active X, though. I always thought that WM standard was for non-touchscreen (smartphones) devices and WM pro was for touchscreen (PocketPC) devices. So I don't think you can run pro on a smartphone. HTC and VZW should know right off the bat if they have a ROM upgrade for your device since they would be providing it! You won't find a generic WM6.1 Pro upgrade because the ROMs are specific for the device and carrier.

Thanks,  I will try Mobiscope this weekend.  I did finally get confirmation on the OS.  I cannot change this at all.  I will get back and let you know.  Thanks

Thank you.  If the Mobiscope mentioned above does not work, I will try this alternative.  And you may have seen above, I finally got the answer on the Ozone, no OS upgrade possible.   Thanks
