SMT5800 Upgrade to 6.1 - Media Player not working through Headphones
- I recently updated my VW SMT5800 to the 6.1 upgrade Verizon released. I use my phone constantly as my MP3 player using headphones through the USB adapter. I can no longer get the media player to play through the headphones, the music works fine through the built in speaker though. If I make a call, ie. check my voice mail, the sound does come through the headphones but nada with the media player.
Any ideas? I am lost without my music.... :-(
Thanks!
Rich

- I too would be lost without my music but I'm stumped re: your question. Anyone else have a suggestion?

- I would try a different headset first. If that did not work, I would do a hard reset to get it back to factory condition. Check it before you add any programs. The hard reset is like getting a new device so I expect that will do the trick.
If it does not work then there is an issue with the device.

- Nope, no luck. The headphones are fine and the dongle is fine. I confirmed this by dialing voice mail with them plugged in and everything went through the headphones. Unfortunatly, even after a hard reset, Windows Media still will not play through the headphones. Again this worked fine until I upgraded to 6.1, no problems with 6.0
Rich - I would do a hard reset to get it back to factory condition and to make sure it is not a hardware issue.
http://www.experiencemobility.net - just reporting that I have the same problem with the same phone a verizon smt5800. any new info on this? sorry I know the thread is a couple months old, but it references the same issue I am having and I can't find any other info.
- I'm also investigating whether Verizon has any recommendations.

We will have to see if Mary Alice can get a reply from Verizon to see if there are issues with the upgrade Rich. Hang in there ....
http://experiencemobility.net http://mobilitysite.com- Rich, just out of curiosity, have you tried TCPMP to see if that works? If not, try it. You can download the free version here: http://www.freewarepocketpc.net/ppc-download-tcpmp-v0-72rc1.html
If it works, I would consider making TCPMP the default media player on your device. To do that, open TCPMP and click Options - Settings - Select Page - File Associations. I suggest to select all the options available on this page. Then close TCPMP and try again.
http://experiencemobility.net http://mobilitysite.com - I just heard back from a Verizon contact who asked for you to please provide: clarification on what adapter you are using, and if you have tried using the default wired headphones that ship with the device.
I have this problem too and it is bugging me. Let's get a few things straight here:
1. This is not a problem with the headphones. Happens with all headphones.
2. This is not a problem with the adapter. Happens with all adapters
3. This is not a problem with WMP vs. TCPMP -- WMP works fine without the headphones connected.
4. Something is different between WM6 and WM6.1
I strongly suspect that this could be fixed with a registry setting, and I am begging someone smarter than me to figure out which one it is (it is not obvious to me)- Thanks for the additional perspective jedn. Let's see if others can provide a more detailed response to your post...

- This happened to me too- annoying. This is what I found out. If you plug the dongle in, but not the headphones, then start playing the file, *then* plug in the headphones, it works. If you pause the file, you have to unplug the dongle, and do the whole process over again before it will play. This is a software bug that has been completely ignored and it has made me want to ditch the phone. This seems to be the solution for both TCPMP and WMP.
I appreciate the suggestion. Unfortunately, your particular workaround doesn't work for me, which sucks. Is there a way to work the registry or some other fix for this? Thanks, Jed
I wonder if this issue exists with all SMT5800 with the 6.1 upgrade?
