It dows not sync when you click Yes? Have you checked with your Exchange Admin whether there has been any change on the server? Any errors?

No it does not sync when you press yes. It simply starts the syncronization again > Syncornizing > Looking For Changes and then the message above pops up again and then the whole loop starts again.

No errors reported on the server and no changes were made.

I did read this post but it does not provide a solution

I am having the same problem.  However I can sync.  It's just that any changes I made on my HTC Tytn are lost and the process of transfering from scratch all the info from my pc takes a while.  I have tried re-booting my pc and pda to clear the error but to no avail.  The message comes up quite randomly - every 2 days or so.

Try this: Open Activesync on your device. Click Menu - Configure Server. Enter a fake servername and click next. type a fake credentials and connect your device to sync. Let me know what happens.

This does not solve the same problem on my ATT 8525.

When I go to usb to pc, the only option I have is "Enable advanced network funcationality."

If I deselect that option I do not get of my calendar items to sync over and I get the Sync Center saying that "Sync Failed" with "1 errors."

This is becoming VERY frustrating.  About every two days I get this error.  I have missed appointments because of it.

    Thanks, George

Zanoe - I hope you can help me too! I have this same problem. I follow your instructions all the way to CONNECTIONS, then Im lost. My phone doesnt have US to PC and I dont know what that means if its short for something.

After Connections my choices are A ----> G (wireless manager, beam, bluetooth, usb, GPRS, Proxy, more). If I go to USB then I can choose either: ActiveSync, modem or mass storage). Its set on ActiveSync. Should I change it to mass storage to solve the problem?  I tried that and it wont sync like that.

    I have Samsung's BlackJack II.

    Ideas?

Been driving me nutty for about a year now, HTC 6800.  I've tried all the fixes posted on every blog on earth.  The only positive thing is I've had the problem for long enough that I've noticed it seems to happen within a day of adding voice tags to my contacts.  I add all those friggin' tags and it seems to be a big waste of time EVERY time.

It seems the processor on these devices causes many issues.  I can't use the infrared port for anything, and my guitar tuner doesn't work, etc.  I've contacted developers and they all get stumped.

Does that info help push this issue forward at all?

    Hi

I just got the new HTC Touch HD, using WM 6.1 and I getting the same error virtually everytime I connect to sync.

I am connecting directly via USB. I am using Windows XP SP3, MS Activesync 4.5, Outlook 2007. I am not using exchange server, just syncing with my PC directly via USB.

I am trying to use your suggestion, however in this option there are only the following:

    ActiveSync (which is checked)

    Disk Drive (Not checked)

You can only choose one or the other and cannot deselect both of them.

I have tried it on each one, however, when I uncheck activeSync, I cannot sync at all.

    Any Suggestions??

Okay, so here is what HTC told me...and it does work. I am using an HTC Touch Pro from Alltel running WM 6.1, Windows Vista 32 on my laptop, synching with Windows Mobile Device Center...
They told me to uncheck synching the email option and then try again...
If I do that I stop getting the error message.
Now if you are like me this only creates another problem. I like to be able to see and review my email from my home computer anywhere I am...sometimes there are things I need, and so this doesn't allow me to do that. So the fix, while it certainly works, is useless for the productivity of the phone. You would think this should be able to be fixed. I am inclined, however, to believe this may be a problem with Microsoft, I know I was shocked too, since it is happening to more than one model and make of phone. Call me crazy, but you know it could be.

I hope we are able to find out soon, it really stinks to loose all this data everytime I turn around.

My immediate solution has been this:
When I synch and this error message comes up I swap over to not synching the email so that I can synch and get all the new stuff added to my phone onto my computer, then I switch it back and tell it to completely resynch again, that way I don't loose the data and when I resynch, after checking to synch email again, I can still have my email with me...until, of course, it does it all again! Arghh! Hope this helps someone. God Bless.

thanks RunningRev for coming up with a workable work-around until someone manages to sort this problem out.

I use my HP iPAQ 112 (WM6) via direct USB cable connection to my Notebook PC which runs Windows Vista Home Premium (32bit AFAIK). No hub.

I am peeved however, that it reverts to only synching root folder of e-mail (inbox) after I re-enable, and I have to go in and tick each box under every RSS feed and also all the subfolders under my inbox in Windows Mobile Device Centre. Then do a 2nd extra synchronization to get all my e-mail back. A default synch setting of "all" would be more helpful ...

Sorry, the issue has NOT been solved at all. I have owned a HTC Touch HD for some months now and I have had this re-synchronization error pop up at random here and there. What is annoying is that although I do not lose any data such as contacts, calendar dates, notes etc, I lose all speed dial entries and all Favourite People entries. Obviously because those entries are taken from the Contacts database and it is completely refreshed on a full re-synchronisation, it wipes them out, forcing me to re-enter them all manually, which is a really tedious chore that I don't neen.

I have been in constant touch with HTC, even having a special representative advising me what to try to resolve the problem. I synchronise my Touch HD directly with my PC via USB directly into a rear USB port and there is NO server. So the message about my server changing is so much ____.

HTC have asked me to try many things to resolve this issue, but none of them have worked, so I suspect that HTC does not have a solution either and their advice is so much window-dressing.

So my advice is that people should COMPLETELY AVOID buying any HTC product running Windows Mobile until HTC can guarantee that this very obvious fault has been fixed. Actually it is very hard to find who to blame in this issue, because it might very well be a fault in ActivSync, but HTC has the onus to deal with it, because it affects their product.

So - DON'T BUY HTC until you are guaranteed that this problem is fixed.

    sorry, that is ____!

its not htc's fault that this error occurs.
i had various other win mobile devices and the same error on that too.

so what really helps is that you avoid disconnecting the device while active sync is synchronizing.
when you do you can be sure the next time you connect, all items have to be synced again.

simply dont disconnect and the problem is solved. worked perfectly for me.
the only time when the error occurs again is when you have to disconnect while syncing because you are e.g. running out of time and have to leave the desk immediately or the device freezes while syncing.

    Hi George,

Well finally I think I found what the problem is and I applied my fix to it and so far, I've had perfect syncing every time. This is how it works and this is what I sent to HTC, who stated that they will post this fix on the HTC website. It's a bit long-winded, but it explains why the problem occurs, which could be useful.

Fix for HTC Touch ActivSync 4.5 Synchronisation Bug

I have tried for months to fix the problem where I synchronise my HTC Touch HD to Outlook 2007 using ActivSync 4.5 and I get the following message - "There has been a change made on your server that requires you to re-synchronize all items on your device. All changes made since your last successful sync will be lost."

This problem is not even that bad, but the irritating aspect of it is that every time such a full re-synchronisation is performed, all the speed-dial entries and the People entries that had to be originally entered manually are completely lost and have to be re-entered. This becomes very tedious, especially on an expensive and sophisticated device such as my HTC Touch HD. I have spent many hours trying everything HTC has suggested to cure the problem, but to no avail. So I sat down and started analysing the matter and I think that I have found the cure.

The problem is not with the phone - the problem rests entirely with the ActivSync 4.5 implementation of Exchange Server synchronisation. Even if the synchronisation is done directly between the HTC Touch and a desktop without any server being used, every once in a while, ActivSync thinks that there is a server on-line and tells the phone that the server has been changed and a full re-sync has to be performed. So far, my solution seems to have fixed the problem, so if you own a HTC Touch PDA phone using AcivSync 4.5 directly with your desktop and not via Exchange Server, this is what to do.

    1. Connect your HTC Touch to your desktop PC with ActivSync 4.5 and allow it to synchronise fully.

    2. In ActivSync, click Tools in the menu and select Configure Server Source.

    3. Type in a name, any name, into the Server Address section - any name will work.

    4. Do not tick the box marked This server requires an encrypted (SSL) connection. ActivSync might throw up a dialogue box suggesting that you should connect via SSL, but as you are not connecting your desktop to your HTC via the Internet or Exchange Server, get rid of this dialogue box.

    5. Enter some logon credentials into the appropriate boxes - put your own name in the Username box and create a password in the Password box. In the Domain box, just use a domain name that you own, or if you don't have a domain name, invent one and enter it.

    6. Tick the box marked Save Password and then click OK to save the setup.

    7. At some point in this procedure, a dialogue box might pop up with a list of folders to synchronise with both the non-existent server and the desktop. Make sure that all the boxes next to the folders that are to be synchronised to the non-existent server are unticked and the boxes next to the folders you wish to synchronise with Windows PC are selected as you require. If this dialogue box does not pop up, after you have completed the setup, go to Tools and click on Options and this will open this dialogue box.

Again, make sure you do not select any of the folders assigned to the server, just the folders with Windows PC. Once you have done this, click OK. This will fool ActivSync into thinking that there is a server connected to the system, but as there are no folders checked to synchronise with this non-existent server, Activsync will proceed to only synchronise your HTC Touch with the desktop and this will eradicate the synchronisation bug.

Enjoy and I hope it works for you.

    Ziggy

    Hi Buenox,

Thanks for the kind words. A lot of people are also having problems with the inbuilt GPS in the HTC Touch series smartphones. I had such a problem, however I think (still not 100% sure until I give it another couple of weeks) that I might have found the cause and the solution.

People who bought the HTC Touch Cruise and installed GPS software such as TomTom Navigator have found that often position data is not found and there is a screen message as follows:

Waiting for a valid GPS signal.

The GPS will not work at all, often for hours and sometimes days. I have had this problem ever since I bought my HTC Touch HD and I think that I have found the culprit.

HTC Support told me on many occasions that the problem was with incompatible GPS software, but that could not have been the problem, because in most cases, TomTom Navigator loads and works fine - it's just on certain occasions that it bombs out and won't start. Why? This is what I think.

The problem does not lie with the GPS software, but with the QuickGPS application, which downloads satellite ephemeris data to the GPS cache, to speed up satellite and position acquisition. Sometimes the downloaded Quick GPS data is not valid and confuses the GPS program, such as TomTom Navigator, which will not accept the wrong position data that was downloaded by QuickGPS.

On occasion, my TomTom Navigator has shown my position as being 1000km away from where I actually was, which is what alerted me to the problem and the solution. Obviously something was feeding my TomTom Navigator software with the wrong position data, so it had to be QuickGPS and not the satellites overhead.

Many users have QuickGPS downloading ephemeris data when connected to Activ-Sync, then they find that their GPS does not work for hours and days. So the obvious solution is to disable QuickGPS entirely and just leave the GPS software, such as TomTom Navigator, to load and acquire the satellites itself.

    This is what to do:

    Go to Programs > QuickGPS
    Click on Menu > Options
    Untick every option
    Click OK to save settings
    Exit QuickGPS

Hopefully this will solve the GPS position acquisition issue.

I don't think that this is the correct forum for this particular issue, but hopefully HTC users will pass this around to the appropriate forums - I can't be bothered opening accounts to a few dozen user forums. I had a look around the Internet today to post this, but every forum required me to open an account.

There is still one other issue with the GPS - there is a noticeable lag in TomTom Navigator and I suspect that it's the slow data stream from the GPS receiver to the software, but I'm going to work out what's going on and hopefully solve that and that will be the last problem that I know of with the HTC GPS.

    So there it is.

    Cheers, Ziggy

Fix for HTC Touch ActivSync 4.5 Synchronisation Bug

I have tried for months to fix the problem where I synchronise my HTC Touch HD to Outlook 2007 using ActivSync 4.5 and I get the following message - "There has been a change made on your server that requires you to re-synchronize all items on your device. All changes made since your last successful sync will be lost."

    ...
Server, this is what to do:

[STEPS DELETE - SEE BELOW FOR UPDATES FOR WHAT I ENCOUNTERED.]

Thanks for your input -- I worked through the solution you suggested and it appears that the sync problem is no longer occurring. Just a few comments on minor differences between your description and what I encountered:

    1. Connect your HTC Touch to your desktop PC with ActivSync 4.5 and allow it to synchronise fully. [Worked as described.]

    2. In ActivSync on your desktop (the options were greyed out on the PDA/TP2), click "Mobile Device Settings" -> Click "More>>" -> Click "Establish Wireless Exchange Server Connection" (or maybe it was 'Server' rather than connection).

    3. Type in a name, any name, into the Server Address section - any name will work. [Worked as described.]

    4. Do not tick the box marked This server requires an encrypted (SSL) connection. ActivSync might throw up a dialogue box suggesting that you should connect via SSL, but as you are not connecting your desktop to your HTC via the Internet or Exchange Server, get rid of this dialogue box. [Worked as described.]

    5. Enter some logon credentials into the appropriate boxes - put your own name in the Username box and create a password in the Password box. In the Domain box, just use a domain name that you own, or if you don't have a domain name, invent one and enter it. [Worked as described.]

    6. Tick the box marked Save Password and then click OK to save the setup. [Worked as described.]

If you have entered a fake server name, you will likely receive an error message that the exchange server cannot be reached, and are prompted what to do. Select the option to proceed without validating your credentials.

Until you indicate to not sync 'email' with the exchange server, expect error messages stating that the exchange server is not reachable.

NOTE: I did not receive the dialogue box but was did not have a 'Tools' option. Instead, I clicked on "Mobile Device Settings", then clicked on "Change content sync settings", then clicked on "Sync Settings" under the "Email" entry. While there was an option to "Select folders to sync", it was not expanded. However, there was an option of "Synchronize e-mail from:" and choices were either "Exchange Server" or "Windows PC". I selected "Windows PC". When I reviewed the settings for the other items (i.e., Contacts, Files, etc.), they were all set to "Windows PC".

After making the above changes, it appears that sync's are now working. We will see after a couple of days  ;-)

Thanks again for the research -- without it, I suspect I would have just turned off email sync (i.e., solution provided by another posting / website).

The above solution actually worked for about 5 days - I had been having the error nearly every day or sometimes multiples times per day. Thus, I thought it was working. Alas, I encountered the dreaded error yesterday.

I have read that no longer sync'ing your outlook box works, so I have stopped sync'ing my email. Will see if I make it for an entire week this time  ;-)    BTW, as I have pop & imap email accounts, I have them already set up on my PDA - the outlook email sync actually resulted in duplicate emails (yes, they were in different inboxes on my PDA but they were duplicated none-the-less).

Anyway, hope you have better success than I did...

    Hi -

I have a Touch Pro 2 with T-mobile and was getting emails fine on through my works server until they performed some update to the certificate about a week ago at which point I stopped receiving emails. Every time I tried to synch my TP2 with active-synch I received an error synchronizing message. After time spent with my IT dept and T-mobile reps (neither faction I felt was very well versed with HTC product line) I was still unable to get past this error message or to allow my TP2 to "trust" my works certificate and log on to the exchange server.

After a while searching, I came across this thread and your post allowed me to synch my outlook emails, calendar and tasks to my phone pretty easily! The only problem now is that unless my phone is connected via USB to my computer, I can't send/receive emails. When my Outlook account was functioning properly, I would hit Menu>Send/Receive and my phone would display Connecting...Synchronizing and then BAM! emails. At this point I only have this capability when linked via USB

I'll be the first to point out that I feel in over my head with a lot of the technical jargon flying around on these forums and maybe in retrospect HTC wasn't the best choice for me. However, I was really happy with my phone and it's performance up until I ran into this problem. Following your steps to get my phone synched through my PC gave me a bit of hope and I'm hoping that I'm only a few steps away from a complete fix... Is there any additional advice you might offer? Thanks!

    Hi,
The issue you described could be caused by the certificate that was installed on the server.  Here's some questions that may help:

    1. Are other Windows Mobile users experiencing problems?
    2. Which 3rd party certificate authority issued the certificate?
    3. Has your network administrator checked to see if the certificate was compatible with Windows Mobile?  Not all certificates are compatible.  So if your company's certificate is not compatible, you could install the cert on each device or contact the certificate issuing authority to request a replacement cert.

Ziggy, you got me all excited, and I followed your instructions to a "T" (I think) about 2 weeks ago.   But alas, again this morning, I have gotten the dreaded message, “There has been a change made on your server that requires you to re-synchronize all items on your device.  All changes made since your last successful sync will be lost. Do you wish to continue?”

So I am into a grand re-synching again - the umpteenth time I have had to go through in the two years I have been using this HTC phone and Microsoft's ActiveSync.   Recently, this resyncing took some 42 hours to complete, rendering my T-Mobile Dash (HTC Exscalibur) completely useless while it remains tethered to my desktop....

When this process completes, I will again follow your instructions as yours is the best explanation I have received.  Too bad Microsoft is not more interested in trying to resolve this problem with ActiveSync.

    Best regards,

While all the information found here is very helpful, I have to wonder am I really the only one that is using Gmail's exchange settings to sync with?

These settings worked well for me for the first month of using the m.google.com settings, and my contacts, email, and appointments were sync'd well via active sync to my Touch Pro & my Touch Pro 2.

For the last 2 months, I've encountered this error: “There has been a change made on your server that requires you to re-synchronize all items on your device.  All changes made since your last successful sync will be lost. Do you wish to continue?”

and it's getting to me that every time I select "yes" resync on my Touch Pro 2 (Spint), all my data lost, changes made via PDA since last successful sync, and favorites, facebook linking, etc, is lost.

Can anyone provide experience with using an exchange server, or more specifically, gmail as exchange using m.google.com for server, and getting this error message...what can we do to fix it?

This is caused by syncing email with a POP3/IMAP4 account and an Outlook PC that connects to the same account. Windows Mobile sees the PC as a server when syncing emails, so there is a conflict according to the phone.
This will remove all of the information off of the phone, then rebuild it from Outlook on the PC.

For example: If you have yahoo imap setup on your phone and the same yahoo imap account setup in outlook on the pc you are synchronizing with when you sync via usb cable on your pc you will receive the error message. you could have been synchronizing this way for years and sometimes even months.

If you 1. delete the email account off the phone and then sync via usb cable again, you will not receive the error message anymore. or you can go into activesync on the phone and uncheck email to synchronize, this will also resolve the problem.

Glassbawx, If we delete the email accounts from our phones, then how do we get email delivered to our phones when we are away from Outlook?  I have email accounts on my phone so that I can see emails that come in between synchronizations.
