AnswerActiveSync 4.5 won't sync Outlook Contacts to WM6 device, not even with Microsoft Office 2007

    Hi,

Synching the calendar, and email works for me,  contacts  and tasks do not.

Contacts has my highest priority (Have bought a smartphone, so i need my contacts :-)

Previously tried to sync my smartphone on a 4 year old laptop with Outlouk 2002

Resulted in: Error code: 80070490  try again later   when synching contacts  (email and calendar works)

Today tried it on another computer:

    - Windows XP SP2

    - New setup of ActiveSync 4.5  on this computer (previously version 3.8.0 was installed, but removed that for this experiment)

    - Microsoft Office 2007 !!

    - Smartphone: iPAQ 415 has WM 6

    - Direct Connection via USB cable    (No hub, cradle, bluetooth or anything else)

As far as i know this should be a perfect match of tools.

Same results as with the outlook 2002 attempt    :

When Contacts is set to be synched (alone or together with anything else)

the whole sync fails with Error code: 80070490

I really need some help now since even Windows outlook 2007 did not fix it.

Hi! I have a related problem that i solved in a mysterious simple way. Maybe you should try the same:

    - I unchecked sync contact items in ActiveSync/Tools/Options,

    - clicked okay

    - Let the AS do its stuff

    - Checked sync contact items back again

    - clicked okay,

    - Now it synced the contacts properly!!!

    Same worked for Tasks.

    Just a thought.

    Good luck!

    Udang,

Try copying all your Contacts to a subfolder in Outlook and then I them back by small groups with a sync between each addition. I suspect there's a Contact item that's causing the issue. Do as I said until you come across the issue again.

I think it's because i'm using windows live in my HTC TyTn and i'm using the new version of windows live messenger (2008) V.8.5.1288.816. After download this new version i had all this problem.

I was needing to format my laptop, before doing this everything was working fine (old version of windows live messenger and contacts in outlook), but then i installed the new version of windows live messenger and then i could not synchronize my contacts to my microsoft outlook anymore.
    Please help me.

I'm using Outlook 2002, and was struggling to get my contacts reloaded into my phone (HTC Mogul, Sprint Network) after a hard reset.

After reinstalling ActiveSync a few times, "fixing" office, etc., your tip to create a subfolder, and slowly move contacts back was the only one that worked!  All of the contacts moved over, so I suspect the problems was something else.

    Thanks Linley!

It didn't work for me. GGGRrrrrr I am so p* right now... I had about 120 contacts on my phone, and ZERO on my Outlook and I must back them up.

All my contacts that are not LIVE enable have been delete from my phone

All the remaining contacts are LIVE! Enabled, and they simply WON'T sync with Outlook. I tried deleting and recreating partnerships a thousands of times, modifying contacts, deleting the Outlook profile and starting fresh, etc.

Nothing... Activesync still think it is doing a great job, tho (no errors, no warnings)

I'm using XP SP2 and Office 2007 and Activesync 4.5.0

I am p*sd off big time. I already lost about half of my contacts in this mess, and I still have no backp. Sad

    Could someone please advise?

    Regards,

    P.

    - I saved my phone contacts to the PC and it sync fine.
    - I then tried to save the same contacts back on to the phone.
    - Out of 123 contacts only 114 sync back.
    - The missing nine (9) all had pictures linked to them. These where sync to the PC.
    - If you delete the pictures on the contact it will sync back to the phone.

    Hi
I am having the same or similar problem.
I have a BlackJack 1 and am trying to Sync with Outlook 7.
I want the contacts to be the same on both phone and computer.
Right now, I have new contacts in both locations.
ActiveSync works, but only adds new items to the phone.
I want to add new appts or contacts from the phone back to Outlook.
I do not want to uncheck the box for contacts, because I am afraid to delete all the info from my phone.

Any suggestions on how to get the phone and PC to share the info, rather than a 1-way exchange?

    Thanks

I am having major troubles with this.  I have wiped the contact and appointment information off my phone twice now.

I have Windows XP SP2, T-Mobile Dash running Windows Mobile 6, Activesync 4.5, Outlook 2007

Everything has been patched and updated.

I am running Outlook standalone from a .pst file, not an exchange server.  Since Activesync and Outlook both use this file, they cannot both be open at the same time.

I keep getting a error when it tries to sync stuff from my phone, It reports that the contact/appointment can't be synced and says Support Code 1.

I have tried this suggestion and nothing.  I need to  get this working!

    Please help.

If you installed Outlook 2007 after installing Activesync 4.5, then do a Detect and Repair on Outlook.

In the menu at the top of Outlook, click Help > Detect and Repair

then click Start on the popup to start the repair.

If you used an install cd, you will probably need the cd for this.

Try it, see if that works.

If you have stuff in outlook and its no longer there after the detect and repair, what it may do is create a new pst file and wipe our your email accounts. If you go into:

    C:\documents and settings\Your Username\Local Settings\Application Data\Microsoft\Outlook\

there will be two .pst files, the original (outlook.pst) and the new one (outlook1.pst). The outlook.pst will still have your data. Either Import it or change your data file under File > Data File Management

It is also of my opinion, as well as anyone that does Technical Support, that Activesync is by far the WORST syncronization software. No other company actually designed thier sync software to intentionally wipe out your personal information.

Delete your sync relationship (or simply uncheck something to sync) in AS 4.5 and it also deletes your contacts, calendar, tasks, etc from the phone and computer (or just whatever you uncheck to sync). Not a bug, it's intentional. Nice, huh! Big Smile  Go Microsoft!

I tried this with Windows Vista's WMDC. Yes, it solves the problem, but at the expense of losing your individual ringtone assignments, because Outlook 2007 does not sync the ringtone field of each contact. After re-checking sync contact items and successfully syncing back the contacts, I manually re-assigned them my specific ringtones on my phone, tried to sync again and instead for contacts I got error 0x86000107. I have an HTC Mogul from Sprint.

I am having a similar issue that im hoping you guys can help me with.
I have a htc smt5800 from verizon running wm6. my computer is running xp with sp3 and office 2007.
i am having an issue with activesync 4.5 not letting me create sync relationships. in all of microsoft's guides on the program it says that it should automatically pop up a second config window the first time you connect your mobile device. my phone connects and the main activesync window pops up but only recognises me as a guest. i have tried uninstalling and reinstalling it a few times with the same conclusion.
i have run the troubleshooter in activesync and office diagnostics and they both run clear.
    any ideas?

I found a solution to my own problem, based on some suggestions from some other user here. After unchecking Contacts from my Sync options (thus deleting them from my phone) and re-checking it (thus syncing all contacts back into my phone, minus the ringtone assignments which are not saved in Outlook), I assigned the ringtones back to my contacts without getting errors by following this:

    1. Make the ringtone assignments to my first ten contacts.
    2. Sync. (No errors.)
    3. Repeat steps 1 & 2 above for the next ten contacts.

I was getting the error 0x86000107 because I have more than 100 contacts, and it seems that updating more than 100 contacts at once on my phone (by assigning ringtones) and then re-syncing was triggering the error, and then any subsequent contact updates would also fail because that first error didn't clear out (thus requiring deleting all contacts from the phone by unchecking Contacts from the Sync options).

I had exactly the same problem. My brand new VX6900 would not sync contacts or calender info. I just fixed it by doing several things so I'm not sure which of these were the real solution. 1. I put in the Office 2007 disk and ran REPAIR. 2. Found I had several blank addresses and deleted them. These were ones I had accidently created some how. They showed up at the top of the contact's list as blank bars. 3. Selected the Phone List view in Outlook and found I had several phone numbers with letters in the first digits location and a few with the contact name in the phone number location. Fixed those. 4. Sync'ed up my phone and then unchecked the Calender box in Active Sync, re-sync'ed, then checked the box and sync'ed again. All my Calender info transfered. 5. Did the same thing with the box unchecking and checking for my contacts and it worked also. Hazzah!! I have  a phone again!

Word of warning! In the process I uninstalled and reinstalled Activesync 4.5. I'm running a dual boot system, XP and Vista. During the install Activesync flashes a message about USB ports. All was fine after the install until I rebooted. I guess the USB ports and USB devices go dumb till you boot up and re-find the "new" devices. As a result your USB keyboard does not work until  you finish booting, but I could not select XP since my keyboard didn't work yet. Had to plug in an old PS keyboard to select XP and enter my password. The keyboard still doesn't work during the boot cycle but I was able to  switch my boot priority to XP and once windows comes up the keyboard works. Of course now I cannot get into Vista. IT JUST SHOULDN'T BE THIS HARD TO GET A NEW PHONE!!! This is all Windows stuff not working with Windows stuff. Come on Microsoft!

Unchecking Contacts and rechecking it worked for me too, but I know for sure it was a corrupt new contact that caused the problem because it did not make the sync. AS deleted it out of both contacts. I had tried to enter Dr. for Doctor and saved the contact in my PC Outlook. It warned me that that was not acceptable, but saved it anyway. It would not sync and that is when the Contacts became unchecked in Active Sync and greyed out. Thanks for the fix and next time my computer tells me not to do something, I might listen. Wink

     Proposed Answer

This is problem is just totally unreal for Microsoft to not have addressed this by now. Clearly from my research, it has been a common problem for some time now. Too bad I could not find an answer.

Here is the sequence of events with my (unresolved) ordeal in this matter:

Using Windows XP SP3, Active Sync 4.5, and Windows Mobile 6, I synced my information to my computer. I have a relatively unused, but up to date version of Microsoft Outlook 2007. It did not contain any contacts or calendar events. The sync loaded the information from my phone into Outlook. I have 150 contacts total that I need on my AT&T Tilt. I decided to plug the ones I still needed into Outlook instead of trying to do it on the phone, thinking I could just sync and be good. I completed my contact list and they appear to be no different than the original 52 synced from my phone. However, when I sync, it does not pull the new contacts to my phone.

I played with this a few ways to include unchecking and checking the contacts in active sync. Still I got the same results of just seeing my original 52 being added back to the phone.

Having not done more research into it, I thought an upgrade to Windows Mobile 6.1 would help. I still have the same results. I even removed the sync connection in my phone and deleted it off the computer to try it from scratch. With the new active sync install, I told the active sync setup to combine the info even though the phone was a clean slate. Still, it only pulls the original 52 contacts. However, on occasion it does show 0/150 next to contacts sometimes during the sync. But it never loads any additional contacts beyond the original 52.

What am I doing wrong or over looking?!? It clearly pulled the original 52 back from Outlook after it was deleted from the phone and reimaged. How can I get the rest? All of the information in Outlook appears to be the same between the new contacts and the original 52 from the phone.

    Here is what works

    • unplug device, In activesync delete your device [file -delete Mobile device]
    • On your device give it a difference name [start-settings-system-about-device id]
    • it is important to give the device a new name
    • restart device.
    • plug device into sync cable.
    • activesync will ask you the usual initial connection questions.
    • sync the device and your contacts should be added.

I'm not a super techie but somehow there is an id in the code that I believe creates confusion with the sync routine.

OK. I am having a similar issue but a little different. I have my samsung i760 set up to sync with my exchange server (mail, contacts, calendar, tasks). I am away from my network for the summer, and want to sync my phone with my computer's local pst, basically using the phone as a bridge between the exchange server and my computer, since I cannot sync contacts or calendar from off campus. I currently have ActiveSync to sync with both the exchange server and the local machine. It shows check marks on the sync list for the local machine when I plug in and sync, but it is not actually syncing. It seems that the devie is only syncing with the exchange server. How can I set it to ALSO sync with my local machine? It is not giving me any error messages or anything. It simply says it does it but actually does not. HELP!!

This did the trick.  I have the following setup:

    Windows XP SP3
HTC TyTN II with WM 6.1
    Outlook 2007

Changing the device ID made all the difference.  Thanks.
