"There has been a change made on your server that requires you to re-syncronise all items on your device. Please perform a manual sync"
There is an existing thread "Sync problems with HTC Touch requiring complete resync" that has been running since 1 Aug 2007 which is still unresolved but I thought we should start a new one as the problem does not seem to be restricted to HTC Touch. https://forums.microsoft.com/WindowsMobile/ShowPost.aspx?PostID=2784891&SiteID=65
This annoying error means that the PDA takes time to re-sync, data is potentially lost (so I an wary of making changes to my PDA).
I am using Outlook 2003 (11.8169.8172) SP3, Active Sync 4.5.0 (Build 5096), Pocketmirror Professional for WM v2.2 (because ActiveSync only allows one Contacts folder to be syncronised to a PDA), HTC TyTn II (latest version running WM 6 Pro CE OS 5.2.1620 (Build 18125.0.4.2). I am not connected to a server at any time - just PC to PDA
Problem seems to be common to Outlook 2007 and a variety of PDA's (Dash, HP iPAQ 514, XDA Orbit, Verizon Wireless XV6800) but especially HTC brands. Windows XP and Vista also have the issue. Common demoninator here is Activesync 4.5
Any smart ideas what the issue is and how to resolve it?
Can you please indicate if you have installed Microsoft Voice?
Things that have been tried before and failed:
-
add ActiveSync to your "exclusive" list and keep it running in the background- Uncheck "Enable advanced network functionality" in Settings - Connections - USB to PC
- turn off advanced usb comms in the settings/comms area
- disable emails syncronisation (duh!)
- Open Outlook and create a new profile
- PDA and Outlook email address not the same
- Having more than one outlook profile
- Bury your WM device and active sync connection

- Try deleting the partnership on the device and the PC, reboot and connect again.
I did that (please see the list of other suggestions I mentioned) and they didnt work.
I even uninstalled PocketMirror and reinstalled as I thought there might be a conflict to Calendar and Tasks (email is not one of the options) as well as Contacts but that didnt seem to help.
Okay, it hasnt done this again for a while so maybe its fixed. I will repost here if it happens again and see if I can run a log of what I changed before it crashed again.
- Nic_285, since you have got it to work, did you leave PocketMirror uninstalled?
I reinstalled and things seem okay at the moment. I am a bit concerned that the PocketMirror settings seem to include Calendar and Tasks and I can not delete the settings. This is in addition to Contacts and my second contacts folder
I've not used Pocket Mirror but my guess is that it detects Calendar and Tasks and possibly includes it by default. Well, in any event you seem to be working .... lets hope it stays that way.
Thanks for getting back.
Happy to report that I have not had a reset in over a month. Getting occasional issue with contacts as I am a global roamer so when I change the clock time (even though I am using WordMatePro and leave the system clock time on my PC and my PDA as the same), my PDA wants to reinstall all contacts again which takes time. Understandable as the system thinks the contacts have been upgraded according to the sync file.
If you have not done so, ensure you have the PocketMirror Windowns Mobile version 2.2.4
So all is well but will continue to post updates if there are issues
Nic
Thank you Nic.
Yes, thanks fo the update and the version reminder!
I am curious about why your PDA wants to reinstall all contacts again ... the fact of the matter is that the "pointers" have not changed indicating a contact needs to be resynced. Wth the number of contacts I have, it could be a painful wait for a resync ... lol
Nic_285 wrote: I have started a new thread at http://forums.microsoft.com/WindowsMobile/ShowPost.aspx?PostID=2820773&SiteID=65 which summarises the situation and ignores all the unhelpful posts here such as 'Dont sync your PDA"
So far, I have not had a reset problem for over a month so check what I did and see it helps. Software that you are using to sync (such as PocketMirror) or software that tricks the timezones (WorldMate on your PDA or Clox 2007 on your desktop) should also be listed.
In a nutshell, when you create a new email folder in Outlook on your PC that is nested between other folders that are part of the sunc to your PDA is the most likely suspect at this stage. Simply ensure you have a complete sync done before you create the new folder.
Nic
Thanks for your suggestions Nic, but I think your comment was a bit condescending. While you have helped to identify the reason for the problem, your solution is not very practical for many (like me) don't have the ability to use this workaround.
For many (like me) not syncing with outlook email is easier since I can download mail via pop server. I adjust folders too often to worry "have I synced?"
Thanks again for helping diagnose the cause, but please don't sanctimoniously dismiss a viable option that many here will benefit from.
For those that don't want to have to perform a complete sync before EVERY change to Outlook email folders, you can disable Outlook Email syncing and just use the Pop3 email access features built into your handheld device.
If you absolutely need to sync with your desktop/laptop Outlook email file, you will have to complete a sync before any changes to the folder structure (assuming Nic is correct with his hypothesis).
Please post your findings.
I have a t-mobile wing (made by HTC), and I do not think it is because I've added folders in outlook. I'll have a few good syncs for a few days, and without adding any outlook folders the error will come back. I do however have some nested folders in my outlook email, but those were present prior to using this device, I haven't changed any of them since, and it initially syncs fine for a few days.
After trying all of the listed options, the only ones that temporarily work are the ones that lose all the data on the phone (since the phone is more up to date then the computer, this is a big problem). It will be fine for a few days and a few syncs, but then it comes back (making this device and windows mobile useless as any planner is supposed to be a place you can put things and not have to keep them in your head all the time).
I have been unable to find a workaround that allows me to keep the data on the phone. I have tried a couple of different backup software programs, but the problem comes back after I restore the data.
<!--[if !supportLineBreakNewLine]-->
<!--[endif]-->Oops. Had a full resync today. Once again, I did create 3 new sub-folders in my Outlook so I continue to believe this is the cause.
- It does seem to be an outlook email sync problem. When I tell my device to not sync the outlook email, it says it has to erase all the outlook email data from the device (but it doesn't have to delete ALL PIM info from outlook such as tasks, calendar, contacts). So at least I can get my correct info on to the computer with the lesser evil of loosing my outlook email on my device.
I suppose I could try to narrow it down some more. Maybe it has to do with how my nested folders are organized, so backing that info up and changing it around could give some insight.
If it's not the folder thing, maybe it runs into trouble if it's downloading emails at the same time that it is syncing with the PPC/phone. I don't know how the email sync is setup, but I can imagine that this might trigger some kind of confusion if the ppc/phone is checking the database of email files at the beginning and the end of the sync and finding a mis-match. However, this would be such an obvious likely occurance I would be a bit shocked if the software wasn't prepared for such a situation. I would agree I have a treo750 and this issue for me seems to pop up aka rear its annoying head after I get in and add new subfolders in my outlook (2003) email folderswhich I rarely do. It never did this when I just had wm5 on the device.. However I try not to keep email on my 750 on the device unless its something I need to view while I am away from my office or need to take some action on and it only has started doing this within the last three weeks.
Any other suggestions or thoughts.
Jeff
I got the message on my iPAQ 214 about a change made on my server etc quoting service code 80883001 immediately after downloading the following software updates:
Windows XP Security Update for ActiveX Killbits for Windows XP (KB948881) 10 April 2008 Automatic Updates Windows XP Cumulative Security Update for Internet Explorer 6 for Windows XP (KB947864) 10 April 2008 Automatic Updates Windows XP Security Update for Windows XP (KB941693) 10 April 2008 Automatic Updates Windows XP Security Update for Windows XP (KB948590) 10 April 2008 Automatic Updates Windows XP Windows Malicious Software Removal Tool - April 2008 (KB890830) 10 April 2008 Automatic Updates Windows XP Security Update for Windows XP (KB944338) 10 April 2008 Automatic Updates Windows XP Security Update for Windows XP (KB945553) 10 April 2008 Automatic Updates Which of those may have triggered the problem and what should I do about it?
Also, and please forgive my ignorance, but how do I go about re-syncing all the items on my device and what is the "manual sync" I am meant to perform?
Welcome me to the pathetic 80883001 club!
I'm using an HTC-8900 (aka AT&T Tilt, HTC Kaiser )
OS: Windows Mobile 6 Professional (CE OS 5.2.1622)
Activesync version: 4.5.0
PC OS: Windows XP SP2
Outlook version: 2003 SP3
I'm periodically getting (sometimes once a day but not on every sync) a message:
There has been a change made on your server that requires you to re-sychronize all items on your device. Please perform a manual sync.
Support code: 80883001
Apps loaded on the PDA:
poccketMax phoneAlarm
Google Maps
SBSH.net PocketWeather
Spb Pocket Plus
OZ Communications OZ IM
Namco Ms. Pac Man
AT&T Get Xpress Mail
When the error happens the only program shown running in memory is Activesync.
I've tried disabling Advanced Network in the USB to PC connection settings so it syncs using PPP instead of RNDIS - no luck.
I also tried disabling the featuring in Spb Pocket Plus that closes, instead of minimizes, the application when you click the X in the upper right corner - no luck.
Tried deleting and recreating the partnership. No luck.
Based on all the posts in all the forums I've read it does appear to be an AS 4.5.0 and Outlook E-mail issue.
What really drives me nuts is that there doesn't seem to be any resource at Microsoft seriously looking into the cause of this? They just leave it to us users to waste hours of our time trying to troubleshoot their software?!!
Heck, I'll pay money to get connected with someone at Microsoft with lines of communcation to the AS developers so they can get to the bottom of this!
Sorry for the cross-post but I read the other original thread and found this was the 'newer' thread so I'm going to re-post what I just posted there:
I've read every forum on the Internet I could find about this problem. Here's what I know 99.9% for sure.
First off, if you can't sync at all (error 8503001C) this isnt' the right thread for you. Go elsewhere for this problem.
Second, it is NOT a VISTA problem. But I know a lot of people have various problems with Vista so it's easy to jump to the assumption it must be Vista.
Third, it is an Activesync 4.5.0 problem. Note the .0 at the end indicating this is Microsoft's first release of 4.5. It should not be a surprise to anyone that a .0 Microsoft product has bugs like this.
Fourth, it is caused by synching e-mail, nothing else. As one user pointed out (I think their tag ends with 'loser' - no pun intended), all you have to do is disable synching your Outlook e-mail and the problem will go away. Well GEE what a genius idea, isn't that a great solution. I'd say what, like 80% of all AS users are using it so they can synch their e-mail (90% their contacts.) That's like saying there is a bug in Word when you try to print your document, so just don't print and wa la, you won't have the problem anymore! But I do give him credit that so far it seems to be the only for sure, reproduceable solution! But you have to live without having your outlook e-mail synched to your PDA, ya, right.
One big complaint, and I agree, is that this is such a widespread problem, it is surprising MS has not investigated and issued a new AS version to fix the problem, or at least a KB article for a workaround? Does anyone know where I could go to actually PAY MS to troubleshoot my problem?
If you change the structure of your Outlook folders, I wouldn't be surprised this would cause it. But I think this is happening to people without them adding/deleting Outlook subfolders? I deleted and re-created my partnership. Never made changes to folders, and still got the error. Although this may be a cause, I don't think it is THE cause, as in, if you never create folders, you'll never have the problem happen.
I'm sniffing out what I hope may be the solution. In order to get my e-mail when away from my PC, I have POP3 accounts setup that download e-mail from all the same account that Outlook does on my PC. There's a new option in Advanced Setting for the POP3 account setup (at least I think it is new in WM 6) that is a drop down that lets you indicate that if you delete a POP3 email on your PDA, next time it logs into the POP server it will delete the email off the server. I thought this was a great addition because I'd be away from my PC for days, delete e-mail on my PDA but then it would still get downloaded when I returned to my PC and I'd have to delete it all over again from the PC since it was still on the server.
Probably a dead end but I'm going to give it a try...
Nic_285 wrote: Oops. Had a full resync today. Once again, I did create 3 new sub-folders in my Outlook so I continue to believe this is the cause.
Has anyone had this problem repeatedly on a device that you do not have any POP3 e-mail accounts configured on the PDA so you can check e-mail when away from your PC?
I've never sync'ed e-mail on my Verizon XV6800. I use the wirelessync to get e-mail on the device. I just started getting this dreaded 80883001 code. I started using a Sandisk USB with Cruzer sync software a few days ago, which I decided to use to back up my outlook and other things. Maybe that was the trigger in my case. My very expensive phone/PDA is also now just a very expensive phone.
Well with the Delete email from server option unchecked on all my POP3 account on my PDA, the problem still happens. So whomever suggested that was a fix, you can scratch it off the list as being a reliable one if that.
You know what is strange about the problem is it seems the first month or so I never had this problem, then it started happening quite often.
One thing I noticed is that I have setup Sprite Backup to back the PDA up at 3:00 AM every night, sometimes, NOT everytime, I'll look at the PDA in the morning and when Sprite soft resets the device, I get the dreaded Activesync error right after the soft reset. I tried doing a manual backup, soft reset, then sync but that didn't cause it.
I've got some of my POP3 accounts automatically check email. I'm going to turn that off and not use any of the POP3 accounts on my PDA and see if the problem goes away.
I think the last resort is I'm going to delete the partnership and do a hard reset, reinstall all my applications and re-establish the partnership. But I would bet that would be a waste of time as the problem will probably come back.
In looking at the shear number of problems being discussed in the forum regarding ActiveSync 4.5.0, I am very surprised Microsoft is really on this one and getting it figured out and fixed ASAP. But I suppose any application that is one they don't receive direct revenue from probably is at the bottom of the total pole as far as resource allocation.
I'm going to pay to start an official support ticket on this with MS. Probably won't get me anywhere. But like the rest of you I'm desperate. I'm grateful I only have a 100 or so contacts but I download most of my Outlook folders and most all attachements so the resynch thing takes about 20 minutes each time. Normally I'm working on at my PC so I can barely live. I rarely make any changes to my calendar or contacts on my PDA so I never really lose any data on the resynch. But if I were someone with lots of email and several hundred contact and added/deleted contacts and appointments a lot on my PDA, this bug practically makes the PDA useless let alone having to wait a lot longer to resynch if you have a lot more data. Simply unacceptable.
So we should add to this list of things that are not reliable solutions:
- Deleting and recreating partnership
- Disabling X closes application for Activesync
- Configuring POP3 accounts on PDA so that deleting e-mails does NOT delete them off server
The support ticket costs $99 and I have a feeling it will be a dead end. If people are willing to share the cost with me, I'll start one. I'll contribute 1/3 the cost. So if I can get $66 in contributions, I'll put up the remaining $33. So if anyone want to donate $5-$15 or so send it through Pay Pal to paypal@crist.com. If I don't get $66 I'll send your money back and I'll stop accepting donations at the $66 point. Pretty fair deal I think. I'll of course keep records and post everything that goes on with Microsoft Support crossing my fingers for a solution.
I just don't want to throw $99 away. It would be best if several of us shared the risk. Unless Microsoft's policy is to refund if the problem is a bug that they cannot provide a solution for, but I doubt it.

Great summary and I entirely agree with you.
In the absence of accepting the MS solution of switching off the email sync (for which I got some stick from the MS Moderator), as a usergroup blog, we must push on regardless.
So far, I am convinced the issue for the complete sync (even though as you correctly say it seems to be email that is affected but I havent tested to see if a task or calendar or contact that is newly created on the PDA before the 80883001 error is retained after the full sync is conducted) is the creation of subfolders.
In fact the issue is broader than my origional suspicion of an embedded subfolder where other were part of the AS herarcy. Let me explain. Suppose you had this folder set:
- My Family Email (set up to sync to my PDA)
- My Daughter (sync to PDA)
- My Son (sync to PDA)
and I added
- My Parents as a subfolder
The way AS4.5 works is that you can not specify the folder strucuure for sync until AFTER a sync connection is made. So you now have a new folder (My Parents) that is on Outlook and not your PDA structure. You are likely to get a 800883001 error. I would like to experiment with combinations such as:
- My Family Email (set up to sync to my PDA)
- My Daughter (not connected to PDA)
- My Son (not connected to PDA)
and I added
- My Parents as a subfolder
and see what happens as both exsiting subfolders are not connected and all I am doing is adding another subfolder. Anyway I dont work for MS.... but I am cautious of making sure I do a Sync before I create any new folders in Outlook.
Let us keep working on this to see if we narrow it down.
Have a good day
I have over 6,000 contacts, 1958 calendar events, 158 tasks so takes a bit longer!

I for one would be happy to contribute IF I thought it would result in any action but I doubt it. MS Moderators are watching this blog and the others created with this issue. You can check out their responses and attitude which I dont think will change if they are offered $99.
- I just found this thread and want you all to know that this has been happening to me frequently for the last couple of months. I have vista 32, an att 8525 (htc hermes) and have NOT changed the folder structure on my laptop for the last couple of months. I am pretty sure that, for me, this is not a outlook email folder issue. It seems to happen every couple of days for no apparent explanation.
So, from my point of view, rule out the folder structure as an issue.
But, I would love to have a solution. - I have had this problem with an AT&T tilt since I bought it.
I have tried all solutions on this and the prior thread - including going to the new 1.62 CAB/ROM firmware.
It is incredutlous to me that such a widespread problem is being COMPLETELY ignored by microsoft.
That a key feature bug like this is ignored by MS - that they want us to pay $99 to ask them a question about it just boggles the mind. If they don't start resolution on this one soon I say it's time to make these guys pay attention with a web/blog campiagn that makes these guys wish they had been a little more proactive.. I would be happy to contribute if you have not received the other $66.
I have a Blackjack II with WM6 - and use wireless syncing. I have been experiencing this issue since I first got my BJII. It started right away, before I even had my contacts or calendar loaded/checked for syncing. Eventually it went from once a week to almost every day (after 6 months). Interestingly enough it seems to happen overnight on Monday night/Tuesday morning (occasionally other times as well). I asked my tech person at work if we updated anything on the server (maybe automatic Windows security patches every Mon), but she said we did not. I also thought it might be related to the fact that I turn the phone off at night or maybe because I had it set to manual sync (to save battery life) so I began leaving the phone on and sync when an email is received. The problem seemed to go away for a couple of weeks then started reoccurring. I finally go a new phone (BJII) thinking it may be a quirk in the phone, but after one week the problem occured again (unfortunately I forgot and turned the phone off the night before and when I turned it on in the morning (tues) I got the dreaded alert). I deleted my partnership, reset it up and synced (2600 contacts, lots of calendar entries) and it only took 15 minutes to finish (much quicker than where I was at with the first phone). By the way, I rarely add subfolders to my outlook email (I pull my emails from my server inbox to personal folders on my laptop hard drive if I want to save them.) so I do not know if that is an issues.
Anyway, I will keep my eye on this as I love my BJII, but am getting very frustrated.
I have had this same problem since buying my HTC Touch Cruise, WM6 using as 4.5.0
I have had to do total re-sync only 2 weeks ago, all was fine afterwards and i sync twice a day a more.
I have change nothing to Outlook (XP), not changed folder structures or anything. Today it asks me to re-sync again.
This is a complete nightmare as like many of you there i have many contacts and a huge amount of calender items (approx 5000). A re-sync takes about 40-50 minutes!
I do have pop 3 email on my Cruise but they are not scheduled to download. I have been very careful not to change anything that would effect active sync.
I belive that there is a bug in Active Sync. MICROSOFT SORT IT OUT PLEASE!!!!!
Another thing that really bugs me HTC support. What a loose phrase, support! I have emailed them time and time again and no-one has the curtousey to reply!!
I love the device, but i recieved more support from iMate. I dont think i'll buy HTC again.
MICROSOFT, RESOLVE THIS PLEASE AND STOP IGNORING US PROFESSIONAL USERS!!
- Hi, I am not very familiar with forums, so excuse me if I am putting my input in the wrong place. I assumed you are a sort of thread administrator or so. I have been battling with these sync problems since months (I have VISTA and a Touch) and I have discovered lately that whenever I have a sync problem some Isatap Network Adapter has a problem: Uninstalling it allows my touch to sync again. May this help you?
When the Touch does not synch
There is the problem with the „isatap“ Network Adapter
<!--[if !vml]--> <!--[if !vml]--><!--[endif]-->Disconnect the Touch
Uninstall the Isatap (Right click on it and uninstall)
Connect the Touch
This solves the Synch Problem with the Touch
<!--[if !vml]-->
<!--[endif]--> - Well, it's nice to know I'm not alone.
HTC 8525 with WM 6
Outlook 2003, XP Pro, AS 4.5.0
Not to discount the effort that you guys have put in, but it does not appear that this problem is specific to email sync. I've never synced email to my phone - just Contacts, Calendar, Tasks, Notes and Files - and I started getting this problem a while ago.
I'm fairly certain I successfully synced on Thursday of last week.
Not sure if I did Friday or not.
Then I try now and get the error. I'm doing a manual sync as I type.
Other than normal appointments, emails, etc, the only "change" I know of in Outlook occured Friday. In addition to the contacts folder that I have in my online Outlook file, I created an extra contacts folder (employee contact info for a particular client) in an offline Outlook file. I don't know for sure whether I synced after doing that. If there is a sync log somewhere, then I can tell for sure.
If I *did* sync on friday after importing that Contacts folder, then it appears that this problem just appeared completely out of the blue. No emails or email folders involved at all.
I should also say that my company just moved to a different exchange server a couple of weeks ago and our entire email system has been a bit flaky. However, I've had plenty of successful syncs since the server change and I think that this flakyness is due to bandwidth issues. The new servers are part of our larger parent corporation and the migration has been for the purpose of getting my "small" company under their 'umbrella' so to speak. In other words, I don't think that this is due to any tinkering on the part of the parent company. - Hello folks!I share your frustration with my HTC Touch asking for complete resyncs. I have serached w/o luck and seriously considering to move to an iphone.Could anyone at MSFT help?
I have not had a problem in almost 2 weeks. I hope I am not jinxing things, but here are 2 things I did that may help others
1) Uinstalled the SalesForce.com Outlook plug-in which appeared to add subfolders automatically at various times
2) Stopped unchecking the "Show SIM contacts" (which appears to access the server to set the configuration). The path is start/settings/phone/all calls/call options. Whenever I would turn off the phone, this setting would go back to the defaul (which has Show SIM contacts checked)
- Hello Nic_285
I had the same issue this week.
You must uncheck in ActiveSync in the devie, Menu >Options, the box where appears synchronize contacts, it is better if you synchronize your contact wireless and next you must turn off and turn on the device.
This is because I travel across timezones so when i arrive in my destination, my syncronisation thinks something has changed (PDA clock now different to date stamp in the sync file) so it updates all.I just fixed this problem for myself by:
(1) deleting the POP3 mail on my device (MotoQ9h) and
(2) starting the activesync FROM THE PHONE, rather than the desktop to which it is connected.
Deleting the POP3 was no problem since the same messages were also downloaded into Outlook on the desktop and was sync-ed to the phone anyway.
I hope it is as easy for the rest of you, though it looks like a bigger problem, but maybe this will help some.
And no, I don't know why this worked for me.
BRL
I have tried most of the above, like a previous poster, it seems to happen right after a Microsoft Update (using Vista), I recall downloading the update and next sync I get the message. Have searched all over for a solution and seeing posts from 1 year or more ago with no definitive answer is not re-assuring that it will ever be fixed. Very frustrating as all my quick dial numbers dissapear, and am scared to use my phone as a PDA when I don't know if MS will wipe out my data on the next sync.
How is it that Apple can make their phones sync with Microsoft software without these problems, yet Microsoft cannot make their mobile software sync with Microsoft software?
Using Outlook 2003, Vista 32, Microsoft Windows mobile 6.1 on a Palm Treo 750. The next solution I am going to try is called iPhone.
My problem has been solved. I have had no sync issues for 3 months.
Based in others comments about the problem being caused by adding subfolders (Which I knew I was not doing - at least intentionally), I looked in outlook (folder view) and saw Salesforce.com folders which I did not created. I deleted them. They quickly reappered and I had sync problems again. I am assuming that the SalesForce.com Outlook plug-in I was using created them automatically during some sort of maintenance processs.
I uninstalled the SFDC plugin and have not had a problem since. I suggest you look at your folders and if you find folders or subfolders you are not familiar with - find out how they are being created. Or ask you IT administrator wheither there is a program that creates/changes folders automically
which appeared to add subfolders automatically at various times
- I have another problem with ActiveSync. I deleted the partnership from my PC and I can't seem to get the wizard to come back up so I can add back a new phone. My question therefore would be 1. How do you get the wizard to come back to add a new phone. 2. Does anyone else know of a way to add a new partnership?
- You also need to delete the partnership on the device and reboot. To do that, open Activesync on the phone and click Menu - Options. Select your PC and click Delete. Conect again to establish a new partnership.
- "Fourth, it is caused by synching e-mail, nothing else."
Wrong. I don't use the e-mail on my HTC 621, and I don't synch it, but I still have the same problem. It re-does my contact list on the phone, and I lose all my speed dials & voice commands That didn't work. As soon as I plugged in my phone ActiveSync starts to try and connect to my device and then errors out with the message "Cannot establish a connection. No Active Partnership".
I am open for any suggestions.
Here is your solution:
The problem is related to corrupt pointers/records in your pst file and sync settings in Outlook. Run the following and the code is gone:
-Compact the Outlook File (Access by right-clicking on your Outlook folder in folder view (top folder, i.e. "Johns Outlook"), Properties, Advanced, Compact Now. This can take 30 minutes if it's big and never done before. I recommend to do this monthly.
-Run the Outlook Repair Tool and check for any problems: "C:\Program Files\Common Files\System\Mapi\1033\NT\SCANPST.EXE". Run monthly!
-Delete your Connection/Mobile Device in Active Sync. No worries, you should have it all in Outlook.
-Reboot phone, setup a new relationship, run sync
Worked like a charm in my case. You might need to do this every 6 months if you have a lot going on in Outlook. I have so much data going through mine I'm surprised it works at all.

I was getting this error code. I did a detect/repair on Outlook, deleted the partnership, uninstalled AS and restarted everything from the top. Everything worked fine for a few days, then I get "Ther has been a change on the server and you need to do a manual sync" so I did. Then I noticed that several of my contacts had disappeared. Most of them were ones that were on my quickdial, but not all. So I synced again. This time it deleted all my contacts from Outlook, EXCEPT the ones it hadn't synced the previous time. Went into Outlook deletes folder and restored all my contacts and synced again. This time most contacts carried over, but I am missing more from the phone that are still in Outlook. After reading your post, I decided to try sync without email. Deleted the partnership and started again. After another new sync, I'm up to 53 contacts missing out of 157, and I didn't sync email! So my feeling is it is not an email sync problem. My Boss has the same phone, syncs his emails and hasn't had a single problem. So when is Microsoft going to find a fix?
I am having huge problems with this bug. What is Microsoft doing about it? As I read through the threads regarding the problem I can't find any indication that Microsoft has acknowledged it. I can't find anything about Activesync in Microsoft's product-related support section, and I can't find anything about Support Code 80883001 in the KnowledgeBase. I can't get help from HP because apparently they don't provide any support at all for my iPaq 111 (unbelievable!).
Help!
I just had my Smart Phone replaced and when I connected to Active Sync it wouldn't recognize the new phone and no wizard came up.
Anyone have any idea how to manually start the wizard?
This is absolutely crazy, but I sat here syncing and re-syncing ( due to the 80883001 issue) ad nauseum. Just now, I pressed sync on the MotoQ. Tada! Error gone! <shrug>
- Got the same problem using iPAQ214
Here's a new idea - it seemed to happen when I saved a .doc attachment by double-clicking it in Outlook message, then "Save" and "created a new folder" in My Documents
Not quite same as creating a new folder in Outlook itself, but suspiciously similar
Agree - a nasty boring bug and MSoft failure and they really should acknowledge the problem and reassure us they are tackling it. - Further to the above, and the comment about the Salesforce.com plug-in, the only add-ons installed on the PC were:
iTunes Outlook; Outlook Backup; Send to Bluetooth - COM add-ins
Redemption Helper Outlook Extension; Exchange Extensions property pages - add-ins
Are these all in the clear?
In case others want to check, the instructions for finding the add-ins are as follows:
Add or remove a .com add-in:
1. On the Tools menu, click Options, and then click the Other tab.
2. Click Advanced Options, and then click COM Add-Ins.
3. Do any of the following:
o To enable an add-in, select the check box next to the add-in.
o If the COM add-in you want is not listed, you need to add it to the Add-ins available list. Click Add, click the add-in (.exe or .dll file) you want, and then click OK.
o To disable an add-in, clear the check box next to the add-in.
o To remove an add-in, clear the check box next to the add-in you want to remove, and then click Remove
Add or remove exchange client add-in:
1. On the Tools menu, click Options, and then click the Other tab.
2. Click Advanced Options, and then click Add-In Manager.
3. Click Install and then double-click the extension configuration (.ecf) file you want.
4. Click OK.
To disable an add-in, clear the check box next to the add-in, and then click OK.
- We're investigating and will get back with further information.
- This has happened twice on a Palm Treo running Activesync 6.1 so it is not only V4.5 or HTC. When manual Sync is done as required lots of personal settings like ring tones and speed dials get lost. Very inconvenient and prevents the use of all functions of the PDA
- Thanks for sharing this additional information. I've made sure the team is aware of your issues and we're continuing to investigate.
What's happening here is that a key that is used by ActiveSync/WMDC to remember what it has sync'd is getting forgotten. You've already deleted the partnership on the device, and on the desktop. I would try also, if you can, leaving the Pocket Contacts app off for some time to rule out whether or not it is interferring with this key.
While we've seen this a lot on the Touch device, I don't believe that it is specific to a certain device - as the post above points out regarding the Palm Treo and WMDC 6.1.
To summarize, I would suggest the following - and I do realize you may have done some of these before.
1) Delete the partnership on the device and on the desktop
2) uninstall the Pocket Contacts app
3) set up your partnership again
4) 1 by 1, add back PIM items attempting synchronization in between items (tasks, calendar, contacts)
5) If you see the error after step 4, make, back up any encrypted data that you have on your storage card.
a) by back up I mean connect your device to the desktop, browse your device, and drag the item to your desktop.
6) Perform a hard reset, and start with #3 above.- Proposed As Answer byMaryAliceCMSFT, OwnerTuesday, March 24, 2009 11:06 PM

- So has this Support Code 80883001 problem been resolved by Microsoft? I continue to experience this problem daily, maybe twice a day, without any pattern to what causes it. I've had this Palm Treo Pro for 2 mos and recently upgraded to Outlook 2007 to address another problem associated with synching the phone, which it appears to have fixed. I hoped Outlook 2007 would also fix this Support Code 80883001 problem, but it hasnt. I am also using Windows XP.
- Hi:
I've experienced this problem with an iPaq 110 since first use on December 2007. I've tried all of the suggestions, including the one marked as an answer above. No success in resolving the issue.
I have determined that I can sync successfully, as long as I don't synchronize Notes. However, leaving out a standard application should not be the solution.
Has anyone else experienced this problem and found Notes to be the problem? If so, were you able to tresolve it and how?
Mary Alice, has MSFT ever decided to investoigate the root of the problem and repair it?
Thanks
John - I find it hard to believe that such a significant, long-term widespread problem with ActiveSync 4.5.0 and WM6.1 has not been resolved by Microsoft. The first time it was reported was in 2007!
In the same timeframe, we have seen WDC updates on Vista, Service Packs for XP and Vista, WM6.5, etc.
It is deplorable that Microsoft have obviously been aware of this problem but have not been able or willing to solve problems with their own technology (ie Outlook 2007 AS4.5.0 and WM6.1). There is no third party software involved here.
Many of us out here in professional user-land have corporate-enforced OSes (no, we're not allows to run W7 or Vista, we are stuck on XP SP2), large contact lists and multiple nested folders.
For a short time, we had network sync via Intellisync and it never missed a beat. There was never an 80883001-style error with Intellisync. How is it that Intellisync could get it right, but Microsoft can't?
Microsoft, please LISTEN AND PAY ATTENTION!!!
This 80883001 error causes my colleagues and me hours of productivity loss a week.
If Microsoft can get synchronisation happening between Outlook and Exchange without having to resync your mailbox every day, then surely Microsoft can get it right with Activesync 4.5.0!!! - Why is MaryAliceC's Thursday, February 26, 2009 2:59 AM, reply marked as answering this problem? It is not a solution because, even if it works, the fix doesn't last. At some point the whole thing starts again. Microsoft needs to release a bug-fix patch to resolve this problem. They've certainly had long enough to do so.

is microsoft just providing this place for people to talk about thier products?

I found that each major new version of activesync introduced more slowness, instability and bugs; of course 4.5.0 is no exception, and the bug described here is an incredible flaw.
I ran versions 3.X for years with a WM 2003 SE device without any data loss.
Now each time this error occurs, I have to redefine all my "People" shortcuts on my HTC Touch device because the link with the corresponding Outlook contact is lost. Becomes very boring.
I suspect that activesync is causing PST corruption: each time I have the 80883001 error, I run PSTSCAN and it always reports errors (while no abnormal event occurred that could have caused this, like Outlook crash or so)
BTW, in case it hasn't been done yet, I submitted a support incident with HTC about this problem; I'll see what their answer will be.
BTW2, I noticed a strange detail:
When I look at my Outlook 2003 contacts grouped by company, I have two sets of "Company: (none)" !! : those who have been somehow "touched" by the HTC device, and the others. I don't understand why they get grouped separately ??
- With this bug so well documented, I don't see how paying a support fee would be meaningful. If we paid the fee, Microsoft might respond with some of the ideas already mentioned in this discussion, which are not true solutions to the problem. I don't see how paying a support fee would get Microsoft programmers to suddenly fix their bug.
Microsoft, you need to fix this problem. Meanwhile, you need to say something about it here. Your silence is insulting. - Hi frnds !!I got this problem *--"There has been a change made on your server that requires you to re-syncronise all items on your device. Please perform a manual sync"--* a few days ago itself and believe that I should share this with you aLL...Well, first of all I wanna tell u all that got this problem in the emulator NOT in the real device. So, as u all must have understood that i got this issue while developing an apppication for WIN MO 6.0...Now, eVen I hav the same experiene that I DID NOT MAKE ANY CHANGES IN THE OUTLOOK , NEVER CREATED ANY NEW FOLDER... Leave aLone outlook I did not make any changes anywhere and stiLL got this probLem...Now, we all know that we invoke the emulator from withing the IDE itself...
So, I wanna teLL u aLL that @ the instance of time when this prob occured I was working with VS 2008, then I resynced, & did all the bla bla bla descriibed above, but NO LUCK..Then, I switched over to VS 2005 developed the same application (that i had developed in VS 2008), now I NEVER got that issue with the emulator...Then, I DELIBERATELY made changes in the outlook, made new foLders bla bla bla...But evrytime I made changes (especiaLLy adding a new folder in the outLook) the synch happened automaticaLLy & I NEVER GOT that issue....Well u all r talking abt reaL device here, pardon me for talking abt emulator, but then the fact to be ponered upon is : -ACTIVESYNC IS GIVING A PROB WITH AN EMULATOR INVOKED BY VS 2008 BUT NOT WITH THE EMULATOR EINVOKED BY VS 2005... Something to reaLLy ponder upon ?Thanks,Anky - Hi there
I have just got myself an HTC Touch HD and am suffering these exact problems, and as someone summed up abover very succinctly, it is getting pretty boring - reinstating favourites and voice activations. I have tried every fix suggested and while some of them work for a good few days - memorably a week or so on one occasion! - the problem always returns. Unfortunately the longer it stays good, the bolder you get inputting voice tags etc - then you lose the lot.
So - has Microsoft come up with a solution yet?
It seems crazy there is a suggestion we have to take out a $99 ticket to get them to fix their software. I have only just got this and it is certainly not 'fit for purpose' so why should I fund their fixing it?
Has anyone yet found a reliable solution?
I am currently working through my sync'ed information to see if removing any one item -like email - will solve the problem.
Cheers
Andy - We are continuing to look at this problem and we apologize for the issues.
Thank you from the Microsoft Windows Mobile Team
http://www.WindowsMobile.com/TotalAccess I have used my HTC without this problem at all. However, I jrecently started syncing NOTES and had the first occurrence today. I do sync email, but do not get email on my HTC - just my PC.
I agree with you - leaving out a standard MS application should not be the solution for this problem.I had no problems syncing with my HTC until I recently started syncing Notes. Today was the first time I got this 80883001 error. Seems other users have experienced the same issues. Perhaps the problem lies there???
- MaryAliceC,Thanks for your posting. It's helpful to know some effort is going into resolving this. It has been going on for a very long time -- a couple of years? -- and no permanent solution seems to exist. I can't believe how many, many hours I've wasted over this. I also can't believe Microsoft hasn't fixed the problem. It's clear they just haven't applied the resources to resolve it. How can they not be embarrassed that it has gone on for so long with no fix and apparently no official statement. It isn't even listed on Microsoft's Support site (I did a search on 80883001 and there were no matches).Thank you again, and please keep us updated.Bart
All:
At one time, I thought Notes was the problem as well. About 6 months ago I stopped sync'ing Notes, which means one function that I really found useful is no longer of any value. The problem stopped for a brief time, but it still happens occasionally. There's something other than Notes that is the root of the problem.
I hope MS begins taking this well-documented, long running problem seriously and does more than tell us it's being looked at. Unfortunately, apologies for inaction don't resolve the problem.
We look forward to a resolution. All:
I was having the same problem periodically until a few weeks ago. Turning off the advanced networking functionality in the USB to PC connection appeared to resolve the problem until this week. My HTC Touch was connected to my laptop when I was using Windows Media Player and it started to sync my playlists. The next day I had the 80883001 error. Lost my speed dial images and all my voice tags again.
I don't often use Media Player and rarely use the media apps on the HTC so the sync was unexpected.

I sync Contacts, Calendar, Email, Tasks, Favourites, Files but not Notes. My Email has numerous folders and sub-folders and it has all been stable until the Media Player sync incident. I have not tried to repeat the Media Player problem because I use the voice tags frequently and takes a while to recreate them every time. Hoping MS comes up with a fix.- Not sure if anyone has made any progress on this, but I have some more info to add.
I'm using a Sony Ericsson Xperia X1i, with the Valkyrie Firestorm ROM (WM 6.5, TF3D2).
I am ALSO using google's exchange server to syncronize my calendar and contacts over the air.
On first setup, the sync works fine. Through a process of elimination, I have figured out exactly what produces this error (in my situation).
When I go to the favorite people tab, and add a favorite person (anyone), and try to sync, this exact error pops up. So I have a theory.
When you add a fav person in TF3D, I think it creates a new contact for that person in the background. Whatever fields are filled in are not compatible with microsoft syncing (exchange server OR activesync). Thus, when it tries to sync, it cannot sync back to the main database, produces an error, and BLAM, error.
Anyone else have any input on this issue? - coppercarbide,I'm not sure this is the problem because I don't even know what a "favorite people tab" or a "favorite person" is. I also don't know what "TF3D" is.
- I'm continuing communications with the escalation team coppercarbite and all. BartBarker - I believe the TF3D refers to Touch Flow 3D and the favorite people tab and favorite person are specific to this device as described here http://forum.xda-developers.com/archive/index.php/t-465136.html and here: http://www.fuzemobility.com/make-tf3d-contacts-images-sharper/.

http://www.WindowsMobile.com/TotalAccess - I'd be interested to know if this problem will solved once WM6.5 is launched shortly? Or if this problem will still exist; I really hope for Microsoft's sake that this issue does not plague their launch. I have a HTC Touch Diamond2, that can be upgraded to WM6.5 and if something as fundamental as the inability to sync with Outlook still persists, I will be one unhappy bunny.
- I am using HTC Touch Pro2 and this is about the fifth time I am having the same problem with Activesync. I did not make any changes to outlook, lastnight everything was fine and this morning - this shocking error on my HTC "There has been a change made on your server that requires you to re-synchronize all items on your device. All changes made since your last successful sync will be lost. Do you wish to continue?" If click yes - which I have done in the past I loose my settings. Does Microsoft have an Answer?
- For the third time this week, my PDA is re-syncing everything because of this ongoing problem. December will mark two years that I've been dealing with this problem.
Aside from the occasional "we're working on it" comment from Microsoft, nothing is happening. I don't see anyone from Microsoft asking for users to provide more information. I don't see anyone from Microsoft proposing any ideas.
This is a huge PITA for USERS and MICROSOFT CUSTOMERS!
I getting tired of waiting for any hope of a resolution and think I'll start considering my non-Microsoft options. I'll be recommending the same to friends, family, readers of my blog, readers of any blog that I comment on, etc. etc.
John Synchronizing had settled down again since my last post on 28-Aug-09 until 03-Oct-09 when I got the sync error again. I was heading out so didn't do a manual sync until 04-Oct-09 and assumed all was back to normal when it had finished. In the morning of 05-Oct-09 got another sync error and had to repeat the manual sync. Fortunately I had no new information on my HTC Touch, but 3 sync errors in 3 days are not acceptable.
Windows Media Player was not running on this occasion, so scratch my last input.
BTW I’ve disabled advanced network functionality in the USB to PC settings, tried creating a fake exchange server (I only sync directly with my laptop, I don’t run Exchange). The only difference last week was connecting to a different LAN when I was out at a client, but that is only to access the Internet and download email from my POP3 account, but the sync error occurred two days later.

- To clarify my comment above, I use my laptop to connect to the Internet and POP3 accounts and sync my phone to Outlook on the laptop. I don't have any POP3 accounts setup on my phone.
My only thought is that the change in IP address for my laptop's network card may be a factor. If it is a factor however the 2 day time lag for the error to occur is perplexing. Everything ran fine on 02-Oct-09 when I was back on my own network.
For now I only setup 2 or 3 voice tags and speed dials. It's frustrating not being able to depend on this. - Not sure if this can help, but I had no problems since I use bluetooth exclusively to sync !
It's been now about 2 months or so, and no sync error anymore.
The only time I use USB, is to transfer large files to the microSD card in my device, but then I make sure to use the connection in disk mode, not activesync. - Benoitvm,Are you using Outlook 2007?

Sync works fine but occassionally, get the error and message that activesync has to re-sync everthing. AFAIK after searching on and off over past few months, and from this thread, there is no resolution. There are some 'solutions' reported (eg below) but none have worked for me.
Any new resolutions yet?
Try deleting the partnership on the device and the PC, reboot and connect again.
Uncheck "Enable advanced network functionality" in Settings - Connections - USB to PC.
Simply go to \WINDOWS in your file explorer. DELETE the tmail.exe.
Tried: 1. disabled advanced networking in usb settings - no change.
2. added Activesync to exclusive list to keep it running - no change.
3. deleted a 2nd Outlook mail profile, leaving only a single profile - problem gone!

Fix for HTC Touch ActivSync 4.5 Synchronisation Bug
I have tried for months to fix the problem where I synchronise my HTC Touch HD to Outlook 2007 using ActivSync 4.5 and I get the following message - "There has been a change made on your server that requires you to re-synchronize all items on your device. All changes made since your last successful sync will be lost."
This problem is not even that bad, but the irritating aspect of it is that every time such a full re-synchronisation is performed, all the speed-dial entries and the People entries that had to be originally entered manually are completely lost and have to be re-entered. This becomes very tedious, especially on an expensive and sophisticated device such as my HTC Touch HD.
I have spent many hours trying everything HTC has suggested to cure the problem, but to no avail. So I sat down and started analysing the matter and I think that I have found the cure. The problem is not with the phone - the problem rests entirely with the ActivSync 4.5 implementation of Exchange Server synchronisation.
Even if the synchronisation is done directly between the HTC Touch and a desktop without any server being used, every once in a while, ActivSync thinks that there is a server on-line and tells the phone that the server has been changed and a full re-sync has to be performed.
So far, my solution seems to have fixed the problem, so if you own a HTC Touch PDA phone using AcivSync 4.5 directly with your desktop and not via Exchange Server, this is what to do.
1. Connect your HTC Touch to your desktop PC with ActivSync 4.5 and allow it to synchronise fully.
2. In ActivSync, click Tools in the menu and select Configure Server Source.
3. Type in a name, any name, into the Server Address section - any name will work.
4. Do NOT tick the box marked This server requires an encrypted (SSL) connection. ActivSync might throw up a dialogue box suggesting that you should connect via SSL, but as you are not connecting your desktop to your HTC via the Internet or Exchange Server, get rid of this dialogue box.
5. Enter some logon credentials into the appropriate boxes - put your own name in the Username box and create a password in the Password box. In the Domain box, just use a domain name that you own, or if you don't have a domain name, invent one and enter it.
6. Tick the box marked Save Password and then click OK to save the setup.
7. At some point in this procedure, a dialogue box might pop up with a list of folders to synchronise with both the non-existent server and the desktop. Make sure that all the boxes next to the folders that are to be synchronised to the non-existent server are unticked and the boxes next to the folders you wish to synchronise with Windows PC are selected as you require. If this dialogue box does not pop up, after you have completed the setup, go to Tools and click on Options and this will open this dialogue box. Again, make sure you do not select any of the folders assigned to the non-existent server, just the folders with Windows PC. Once you have done this, click OK.
This will fool ActivSync into thinking that there is a server connected to the system, but as there are no folders checked to synchronise with this non-existent server, Activsync will proceed to only synchronise your HTC Touch with the desktop and this will eradicate the synchronisation bug.
Please pass this fix onto anybody you know with a HTC Touch experiencing this problem. - hi,
I started the thread "Sync problems with HTC Touch requiring complete resync"; thanks Nic_285 for reposting with an appropriate subject that has gotten Microsoft's attention.
My original problem occured on a naked HTC with Outlook2003. All the latest patches applied, no additional apps, only what came with the PDA. I tested with several permutations, including wiping the PDA clean. It occurs when email syncing is enabled, and espcially when subfolders are selected for syncing. Sometimes, sync would appear to work, only to have the dreaded reset sync reappear after some days or weeks.
Before ActiveSync 4.5, I had synced with lots of email folders with AS v4.3 and earlier. So that's inherently supported. But WM6 requires AS v4.5. I suspect it's a memory or database problem within AS on the PDA or some data sync mismatch with AS on the PC that forces the reset. We can ultimately get our email on the PDA, but the sync database needs to be rebuilt (on the PDA), and this is a huge pain that takes way too much time.
The only workaround for me was to give up syncing email. Fortunately, umPC appeared and now we have netbooks for emails.
It's now 2 years later and I've since moved on to a Samsung i780, then Outlook2007 (with latest SPs of course). With each change I tried to sync email, but each time I had to give up. The problem is with ActiveSync, probably on WM. My PDA is has been become just a phone.
There's still no solution, and by chance I've stumbled upon this (and my own) thread, and here I see an interesting workaround mentioned by Genoki (originally posted by Ziggyzap in the original thread).
I'll give it a try and post back.- Edited byinsights Wednesday, October 14, 2009 6:52 AMcorrected citation/ref
- As you can see in my reply a few days ago, I am no longer affected by this bug since I changed sync method from USB to Bluetooth.
Considering the frequency of the issue when I was syncing over USB, and the time elapsed since I changed to BT sync, I think it is statistically highly unlikely that this change has no relation with the apparent problem resolution.
For those still monitoring this thread: is anyone still experiencing the problem with bluetooth sync ?
Has anyone else seen this problem disappear by changing the sync method from USB to BT ?
If only USB sync causes the problem, this could be a useful hint for the (future) fix....
BVM - I've been using both USB and bluetooth. I can't say for certain if issue happens only with USB or not. I use bluetooth 80% of the time. I use the USB connection to charge up device or rather when i use USB to charge device, it syncs automatically. I will pay attention to see if issue happens with USB only.
[Btw Insights, you're right, although i didn't attribute that one potential solution it was originally posted by Ziggyzap.]
I am pretty sure it is an Outlook email sync issue. Possibly related to the number of folders or perhaps renaming them, or as others are convinced, having subfolders.
In any case, I am astounded that this is still an unresolved issue even though there are reports of it since 2007.
With my old Dell Axim X30, Windows Mobile 2003 and Activesync 2 (or whatever version it was) in four years of daily syncing I rarely had any issues. It was bulletproof. Same with Window Mobile 2003 btw. I have HTC Diamond2 with WinMo 6.1 and side by side tests opening applications, etc and the Dell Axim is much snappier. The hardware hasn't changed much but software is bloating I guess.
Ah well. Hopefully mobile devices with Snapdragon processor or their equal will become common and cheaper. In the meantime it would be really nice to not to have to resync from scratch every couple of weeks!!!
- Just for folks information - I stopped sync-ing my Outlook emails and have not had an error since then (that's 2 months of regular sync now).
Obviously this isn't ideal, but it has got me past the 'smash up my phone' frustrations!
Still no solution from Microsoft?
Andy - In my above post about using sync over BT instead of USB, I forgot to mention that I DO sync email...no problems since I switched to sync over BT !
- Come on Microsoft! This is unbelievable. What's it been, 2-1/2 years? There's no excuse for not fixing this by now, or even fessing up to the problem in the Knowledgebase. You're trying to promote a bunch of phones under the new Windows Phone brand and you can't even make them sync correctly. You've released Windows Mobile 6.5 and you haven't fixed the syncing problem. What gives? What's your excuse? Are you really serious about the phone market or are you revealing what a very low priority the mobile platform is for Microsoft?
- It's a week since my post. Today I thought I would say all is well todate. Unfortunately not. The dreadded Sync error came back.
I'm not sure whether the sync was completed or not - I had a phone call and had to disconnect from the USB to take the call. When I plugged it back in, the error appeared. When I looked at my email folders, I observed that it had synced/updated for some folders with this morning's email. There were some folders which was only updated to the last sync - previous day's email (I didn't sync yesterday).
So I've reset the sync and lost my Outlook sync folders, and will test again and see how far it goes. Typically, I've seen the problem recur after a few days to 8 days previously. If it manages beyond a month, then the chances are good. I sync quite a number of subfolders, but no more than 30 in all. - That's it!
I'm done. Windows Mobile 6 SUCKS! Two years I've been dealing with this. No resolution. Nothing!
This error appears constantly and I'm done with it. Microsoft doesn't give a SH(T about this problem as is evidenced by all of the reports on this board and Microsoft's inability to provide any answers. Meanwhile, I live in fear of synching because I know that almost every fu**ing time I sync its going to tell me that a change has been made on my server (WTF, I don't even have a FU*King server!!!). Yesterday. Today. The day before yesterday. Surprise! Screwed every time!
I am getting rid of this Windows powered piece of garbage and going to a different OS.
Maybe Blackberry.
Maybe the iPhone.
ANYTHING BUT A MICROSOFT POWERED DEVICE!
Microsoft, thanks for turning off another customer! Anyone who reads this message thread, I am warning you now. If you are experiencing this problem, Microsoft will NEVER fix it. Give up and get a different device supported by a company that cares about it's customer!
I QUIT!
John - I agree that this is an absolute F*C*I*G joke ! Mine does this every few weeks, but with over 2,000 contacts, it takes literally hours to sync again - and usually half way through it crashes and has to start the whole process over again. It literally takes one full day and if I dare touch the phone to answer a call, you can guarantee that the link will break and I will have to start over. So much for being productive ! You take our money and do absolutely nothing to help when problems arise. If we want to talk to you, we have to pay - even though you caused the problem in the first place. If a retailer had the sort of customer service you have, they would go broke.
- I agree that this has gone on too long, without any official (knowledgebase) recognition of this issue by Microsoft.
I am on my second "Windows Phone." The first was a 5800 (non-touch), the second is a Touch Pro2. I have experienced the problem with both phones.
I have only experienced the problem with WMDC (6.0 and 6.1) and not with ActiveSync (never used).
I have experienced this problem syncing only one mail folder, and syncing multiple mail folders.
At one time, I synced my 5800 exclusively with bluetooth in an attempt to resolve this 80883001 problem. Since I like to charge my phone from the computer, this is kind of a hassle and not ideal. I frankly do not consider abandoning usb a solution any more than abandoning mail sync.
My opinion is that the problem resides more on the WMDC/Windows side of the divide than on the smartphone side, but I can't really say why I feel this way. Also, with all the software that is updating itself frequently (especially Vista, but also anti-virus software and other potentially relevant software).
MSFT, PLEASE fix this! I'm a repeat customer and this is the most annoying thing going with the "Windows Phone" (still awaiting that upgrade to WinMo 6.5, but not in a hurry).
John
- Arrgh - my "successful" manual sync was followed about 10 minutes later with another required manual sync. Nothing changed on my system except receiving/deleting a *very few* email messages.
- Bloody thing ! It's done it again. I am getting so sick of this. Once I upgrade this phone to whatever comes next, it won't be a WM device or any other that uses ActiveSync !AND ONCE AGAIN, after waiting for it to sync everything from scratch again - some 5 hours and it was only half way through, it crashed and I have to start all over again - another 8 hours at least of waiting on everything to sync. PATHETIC ! I also need to re-attach photos to each contact afterwards!
- Is anyone aware of a third-party replacement program that will provide reliable syncing? I am sick of this. It has gotten so much worse in the past couple of weeks. Maybe I need to do a hard reset just to get some relief for a few weeks?
- Hello Microsoft, anybody there????
The silence is deafening.
What is the point of these forums if Microsoft does not engage with its customers?
Just a reminder when this thread was started:

Unbelievable!!!!
Please communicate with users / customers.
At the very least provide an update, wouldn't you want that if you were in our shoes????? - It happened again just now. And last week. And the week before. Sometimes twice a week. Come on Microsoft. Why won't you even officially comment on this thread, or post something in the knowledgebase. You need to:
- Acknowledge the problem.
- Fix it.
- Tell us about the fix.
There's no excuse for failing to do any of these things. A lot of people are very angry about this ongoing, longterm problem. How can you promote "Windows Phones" when you know about this and won't fix it. I can't recommend the Windows Mobile platform to anyone right now because of this problem. - Oh, and NOTHING changed in my Outlook file structure. Absolutely nothing changed from this morning, when I successfully synchronized. I don't think any of the speculation on this forum has identified the cause of problem. I mean this BUG.
