Proposed Answerxperia x1 not recognized by mobile device center 6.1

    Hi!

My Sony Ericsson Xperia X1 is not recognized by the mobile device center 6.1 (Vista). When I connect the xperia via usb the mobile device center does not recognize that. The Xperia tells me that I need to install active sync 4.5 or higher on the PC.

The first time when I connected I had the mobile device center 6.0 installed. Then the first sync works. But then I installed MDC 6.1 and the problems started. I uninstalled the MDC 6.1 and installed it again but no difference. In the meanwhile when I tried to uninstall also the mobile device center driver updates this does not work at all. In the meanwhile I have even 2 entries in the "installed programs" list for mdc driver updates.

I have currently no clue what I can do. This is very frustrating!

I also sync my Xperia at work with Windows XP and Active Sync. This works perfectly. So why doesn't it at home with Vista???

    Can you please help?

    Thanks

    Gunnar

    Try this

Connect your device, there should be a sound you will here indicating that your PC recognizes that there has been a device plugged in.

Open Device Manager on your PC and locate your device

Remove the device from device manager

Now disconnect your device from the PC and reboot the PC and soft reset your device.

Connect again and the drivers will reload.  Hopefully WMDC will begin.

    Hi!

Thanks for the quick advice. But unfortunatelly this did not help:
The only device driver that is found at "mobile devices" is "PocketPC USB Sync" I uninstalled that and rebooted and connected the x1 again. The driver "PocketPC USB Sync" was installed again, but still the MDC does not recognize the Xperia X1.

    Any further idea?

    Thanks and kind regards,

    Gunnar

Lets uncheck the Enable Advanced Network Connection

    START/SETTINGS/Connections Tab/USB to PC icon

    Click OK

Now soft reset and reconnect your device

    Hi!

This feature is already unchecked but it does not work anyway.

Currently I tried to uninstall mdc 6.1 and the mdc driver updates. But even this does not work. When uninstalling the mdc driver updates the uninstall process suddenly stops, the progress bar shrinks again and it looks like the uninstall process is rolled back. Although the mdc 6.1 has already been unstinalled successfully.

I hoped a fresh installation of the mdc 6.1 could help. But even that does not seem to be possible any more.

    Any idea?

    Thanks and kind regards,

    Gunnar

    Hi Gunnar,

Sorry for the long delay in getting back.  I've been away for 9 days.

I had a similar situation and did what I suggested above but also I hard reset my device.  When I connected, it worked.  You might want to try removing your device from Device Manager and rebooting the PC, hard resetting your device then connecting again.

Oh no, this is really the last thing I want to do. Then I would loose all the data I added in the last time to the xperia.
Isn't there anything else I can do?

    Thanks

I understand the frustration in doing that Gunar.  I'll send a link to this thread to the other moderators and see if they have any thoughts that might assist.

If I was you, I would do a device backup such that you can restore after the hard reset. Then you can hard reset to see if this helps, and if it doesn't you are no worse off. If it does help, then it would be worth rebuilding after reset rather than restoring.

I would concur with Laura's resolution to the side-effect caused by Jack's primary solution.   Your best bet is to backup your Xperia using a well-known backup product, and then perform a Hard Reset of the device to see if that clears-up the problem with synchronizing with MDC 6.0.

If you are a member of MobilitySite, you can navigate to the Forums > Hot Deals > Member Discounts and get 15% off of Sprite Software's "Sprite Backup" program.

    Hi Gunnar,

You wrote in your first post that you were able to do a first sync with WMDC 6.0. But it failed after the upgrade to WMDC 6.1. Did you uninstall WMDC 6.0 and rebooted your computer before installing WMDC 6.1? Did you delete the partnership with WMDC 6.0 on the device?

If you did not do any of the above, and before doing the hard reset as suggested by my fellow Moderators, I recommend you remove WMDC 6.1, reboot your computer and re-install again. then open Activesync on your device,, click Menu > Options. Select the partnership for the Vista  box and delete it. Make sure you do not delete the XP partnership. Restart your device and connect to your computer to create a new partnership.

i have been having this problem too, the easiest way i have found to fix it is, plug in the X1 via USB, then once the basic drivers have installed, go to windows update, and check for updates, there should be 2 new drivers and mobile device center updates.. get everything..

once you get everything, mdc will start setting its self up and recognise your phone properly.

    Hi everybody!

Wow, quite some traffice here! Thank you all.

I am sorry for replying so late. But to be honest I gave up inbetween and just relied on the XP synchonizing neglecting my Vista Outlook that I actually even bought only because of the synchronizing feature. But as I am also a software developer and had to finish a product I had no time for further experimentation with my mobile left.

    To make it short:
Now it works (at least most times)!!

That's what I did (as far as I remember):

    - Remove the xperia device from the mdc
    - uninstall the mdc
    - Might be that I also deleted the Vista Outlook connection on the xperia in Active Sync. Can't remember. :(
    - Reboot
    - Connect again
    - Install mdc 6.1 again
    - I think there were also some updates as Bizzeh said.

The device was recognized and I could sync. Surprising. Because I thought did that several times earlier already.

At work the Xperia then could not sync anymore with my XP Outlook Calendar (the only sync object checked here). So I unchecked "sync calendar". Then I checked it again. Now the syncing worked again.

At home (vista) afterwards it still worked. The first attempt to sync with Vista fails most times (without showing any reason). But when I press "sync" again, it works.

So at last it works. Thats very nice.

    Thanks a lot you all!

I know this post is quite old by now, but I do want to add that I experienced a similar problem and I solved it eventually as well. I flashed my Xperia X1 to the latest version of Windows Mobile 6.1, release R3. Once that was done I could not get my phone synced at all: not through USB, nor via BlueTooth (although I could get it to pair). I tried all the mentioned solutions from this thread but the problem persisted.

Eventually I reviewed the eventlog on my Windows Vista Enterprise machine to see if that would perhaps give more information. I noticed all kinds of errors that were related to RAS (Remote Access Service) and they started on a date that I also installed Symantec Protection Agent: removing this application solved the issue completely! I simply rebooted, unchecked the box for "Enable Advanced Network Connection" once more and voila! MDC popped up immediately and I was back in business.

I just thought it would help other X1 /MDC 6.1 users as well. Good luck!
