WMDC Randomly stops syncing FROM outlook TO PDA
Hello:
I have a Treo Pro PDA, and Windows Vista 64 bit on my PC.
As I have done for a while, I use the WMDC to sync Outlook 2007 to my PDA. Generally, I have no problems.
Recently a new problem has developped.
Randomly (I cannot seem to pinpoint what causes it) the partnership will get screwed up so that items created on Outlook (PC) do not sync to the PDA. Like if I create a new Calendar item or Contact, as soon as it is created, I will see the little Icon spinning in the system tray however, the new item will not appear on my PDA.
I've tried unplugging and reconnecting the Sync cable and also closing and reopening Outlook -- even resetting my PDA and restarting the computer. Somewhere in between these acts the problem will be solved however anything which was created on the PC, while the problem occured will still not sync (although new items will sync again once the problem is solved). Additionall, if I go to the items which appear only on my PC and chance something (i.e. add a note, move it forward an hour, add a phone number to a contact etc. it will then properly sync).
As you can imagine this is a huge problem. Like it's late at night and I need to do a few things tomorrow and fit them in between another bunch of items already existing. So I type it into my PC and sync and go to bed. The next day, as I'm going through the day, it doesn't occur to me that some items didn't get synced and I only discover it when I get home later that night that it's in my overdue. (Or even worse, I add crucial notes to an existing appointment; I get to the appointment, whip out my PDA, and check my notes field and it's just not there).
The way around this is, when I discover it happening and I cannot say for sure how many items I have added since the problem began, is I delete the parnership and reconnect my PDA. Everything gets deleted from my PDA and then I set up a new partnership and everything gets brought back from scratch. Net time to do this, about 10 minutes - not what I want to be doing on a daily basis (which is roughly how often this problem has been happening lately).
I have tried checking and unchecking the "advanced network connection" box and it doesn't make a difference.
Does anybody know what this problem is, why it is happening, and what solutions will permanently stop it from occurring.
Thanks
D.A.

- If Detect & Repair doesn't work, you may want to try and create a new mail profile - your issue "sounds like" a corrupt mail profile that the device is having trouble reading.

- In cases where you suspect SP2 as the problem, you may need to reinstall WMDC or do a detect and repair to fix the issue.

- I'm not sure why that is occuring D.A.
When you redo the partnership, how long before it happens again? Is there anything in particular that you remember doing before it occurs?
Do you sync with a second PC?
As an aside, I would consider using the MyPhone service. It will back up all your contacts and calendar and you can view it from a PC. Check it out here:

I have an Sprint HTC Mogul and, for the past 30 days, ever since the Microsoft Office 2007 update, and Vista 64 bit-update, I experience the same problem.
When you first connect the phone to the PC, WMDC loads and does the hotsync properly
However, after about 5-15 minutes (the time varies), WMDC stops functioning.
In order to restart it, you have to unplug the phone and plug it back into the USB port.
However, any updates you make to Outlook calendar/contacts/notes/etc while WMDC is inoperable will not be reflected in the PDA, even at the next good hotsync
I have been researching this for weeks now and my understanding is that Microsoft and HTC are aware of the problem but are reticent to acknowledge it and post a solution.
Tens of thousands of customers have been affected but 99% of them are simply not aware of it (Until they miss an appt)
I have tried every suggestion made on a variety of bulletin boards but, when push comes to shove, none of them work. WMDC just stops working at some point if you leave your phone plugged into the USB port. It's just a matter of time.
The only solution right now is to hotsync and then immediately, after it completes, unplug the phone. Plug it back in when you are ready to sync again and then unplug it immediately
Since this is a mission critical application, the lack of forthrightness on the part of Microsoft about this problem has compelled me to stop using WMDC altogether and I am about to go out and purchase an iphone from AT&T. Since the iphone uses iTunes to hotsync, this problem doesn't exist. - We're so sorry about the issues you are experiencing. I've been reviewing the Windows Mobile Device Center troubleshooting guide for additional tips to provide a solution. I've also reached out to my colleagues and we will post additional suggestions.

http://www.WindowsMobile.com/TotalAccess - I was just reading a couple other threads where Outlook/Office Detect and Repair solved these customers' problems and am wondering if Linley's tips might help you: http://social.microsoft.com/forums/en-US/windowsmobile/thread/54293da4-3847-4bb8-9574-8a877fcf525f/ and http://social.microsoft.com/Forums/en-US/windowsmobileactivesync/thread/701abdeb-ccec-4e9a-9615-d6650dec3463? Might be worth a try...

- Same here; primary suspect in my case is Vista SP2; synching stopped shortly after installation....
