- Mike, do you have a partnership established? Have you ever been able to sync before or is the first time you have tried to connect?

Ok, so that means you have setup a partnership and were able to transfer (sync) information between your device and PC.
So what is happening now is that when you attach your device, WMDC does not recoginze the device.
So a couple of questions:
Have you tried using a different USB port when you attach your device?
Do you hear a sound from your PC when you attach the device? If yes, do you hear a second sound within a few seconds?
If you do hear a sound, if you open device manager on your PC, can you see your device listed?

Do you have a partnership established yet? If not, have you tried unchecking Advanced Network Functionality then reconnect to see if a partnership can be established?
Lets try this:
With your device connected, open Device Manager and locate your device. Remove it from Device Manager and then then disconnect from your PC. Reboot the PC and soft reset your device.
Now, on your device, go to Start - Settings - Connection - USB to PC. and uncheck Advanced network functionality. Now reconnect your device and it should discover it and load the correct drivers. Assuming you have WMDC (or Activesync if using XP) installed, it will automatically start ... it takes a few (long) seconds but it will start.
