QuestionWMDC 6.1 wont allow my O2 XDA Orbit to Sync Calendar, Tasks or Contacts

My computer has just updated WMDC to 6.1 and as I have discovered, I am experiencing a problem that many others are too. My XDA wont sync Contact, Calendar or Tasks properly any more. I keep getting an error with code:0x8503001C. I have tried numerous things including uninstalling and reinstalling WMDC, and disconnecting the phone etc. I have now wiped Outlook completely and have started adding everything back in. It still will not sync with some of the contacts I add back in and when I try to add them as a fresh, new contact, it will not sync with that either.

Are there any solutions? A patch maybe? This is very frustrating as WMDC 6.0 was working fine, so why change it?

Any advice would be greatly appreciated.

    SYSTEM INFO:Windows Vista Home Premium (64Bit), SP1.
    PHONE: O2 XDA ORBIT
    WMDC version: 6.1

    Thanks.

UPDATE: It appears that if I add items to my Phone, then Sync will update the computer, but no vice versa. Not sure if this can help with a solution.

    Thanks

    Hi,

Thanks for the quick resposne. I have already read that link quite extensively and tried all of those options. I backed up and cleared all contacts, deleted all calendar appointments and deleted all of my tasks. The problem persists that when I try to add new contacts/tasks/appointments on the computer, it refuses to sync with the phone and thus throws up the same error. Some of the people who have posted in the thread have also had the same problem for which there is no immediate answer.

Just wondered if there were any other solutions or that maybe, just maybe, Microsoft was working on a patch for the problem.

Any help is greatly appreciated as it is annoying not knowing who is calling or texting me any more.

    Thanks.

Have you tried removing the partnership from both the device and PC then reboot the PC and soft reset the device then attach and set up a new partnership?

    Hi,

I have removed the partnerships on both the computer and device many times, but to no joy. I have also soft reset the device a few times now. I will try again just to make sure, but pretty sure it wont make any difference.

Any more suggestions would be welcomed.

    Thanks.

If you uncheck everything from being sync'd then attach your device to your PC, do it connect and complete the process (of syncing nothing)?

Now add a NEW task and then check tasks and sync? did that work?

I want you to look at this thread and see if it helps:

    Hi,

In response to your questions, it does sync fully when none of the options are checked. When I add a task on the PC, and check to sync tasks, the error persists, but when I add a task on the Mobile device and sync only tasks, it seems to complete the sync fully.

Perhaps suggests a problem on the computer side.

Any more suggestions or further steps would be useful.

    Thanks.

Are all tasks then sync'd on your device?

I wonder if you revert back to 6.0 if that will fix it.  Some folks have reported that doing so stopped that error.

    One more thought

Do you have a memory card in the device?  If so, remove it, soft reset then try the sync.  Let me know if that had any effect.

I think WMDC 6 might be the only option, as I feared. I do have a Memory Card in the device, so will try syncing with that removed. Thanks for the advice, will report back shortly.

    Thanks.

I have tried syncing the device with the memory card removed to no joy. I have the same problem, the phone will sync when a task is added on the mobile device, but not when I add one from the PC side.

Any more help or suggestions would be appreciated.

    Thanks

So when it syncs, the task is added to your PC .... correct?  But if you add a task on the PC and sync, you get the error.

How many contacts and tasks are on your device and/or PC?

    Hi

Yes, that is correct. The same problem occurs for contacts and Calendar appointments. I completely cleared my calendar, contacts (backed them up first) and tasks from the PC as was suggested in another thread. I have about 7 tasks on my mobile device which I need as they have coursework dates on etc. These have all synced fine with the PC. As soon as I try to add anything on the PC, the error occurs. There are also no contacts/calendar appointmets on the mobile device as WMDC decided to wipe those when it updated and synced for the first time.

Hope this is what you wanted to know.

    Thanks.

Not sure what to suggest.  I have only one device with 6.1 and it works fine.  I might consider trying a HARD RESET.

Do you have Notes attached to the Calendar, Contacts and Tasks items?

    Hi,

Ive just deleted all of the notes from Outlook and from my mobile device. I then tried adding a new task to the PC and syncing. The error still appeared so it still seems the problem is on the PC side rather than the phone as it will error every time I add or amend something on the PC.

    Any more help is appreciated.

    Thanks.

    Let's try this:

Open a command prompt on your computer and type:

    regsvr32 ole32.dll

    Re-connect your device to sync.

If Linley's suggestion does not work, you might have to revert back to 6.0

    Hi,

Thanks for the suggestion. I tried what Linley suggested and it said that running that command had succeeded. I then tried to sync my device after adding a new Task on the computer side, but the error still occured. I think Im coming to the end of my teather with this now.

WMDC 6 might be the only answer. Any other suggestions?

    Thanks.

Question for you - is your Outlook data backed by an Exchange Server?  Also, are you still running into this?  I'm wondering if the offending item (assuming there was one) has gone out of scope - e.g. you are only sync'ing for 2 weeks, and at the time you were having the problem you were in that date range.

    Thanks!
