    Hello!
    I'm running windows xp PRO.
I use activesync 4.5 and the connection if fine.
But when I activate internet sharing on my Xpera, acticesync stops working and the computer regestrer a new hardwere, windows mobile-based internet sharing device, but when it looking for the drivers, It can´t find them! I uninstalled and reinstalled activesync, but it cant fint the drivers! In C:\prgram files\microsoft activeSync\drivers i find some, but the windows mobile-based internet sharing device won´t accept them!

    I get the message:
"an error occurred while the device would be installed:
An essential item missing from the installation used the device driver. This may be because the INF file is written for Windows 95 or later"

My X1 says "check usb connection"

Where can i found drivers for windows mobile-based internet sharing device, or what should I do?

I think you are confusing Internet Sharing with ActiveSync's internet passthrough option....they are two different things.  ActiveSync's passthrough internet option allows a windows mobile device to use a computer's internet connection to surf the internet; Internet Sharing on a windows mobile device allows a windows mobile device to share it's GPRS/Edge/3G connectivity with a computer.  ActiveSync must be disabled on a windows mobile device before Internet Sharing can be used.

If you want to use your computer's internet connection to surf the internet on your device, you can use ActiveSync's internet passthrough option.  To enable this, you'll open up ActiveSync on your computer, then select File > Connection Settings > you many need to change the option found under "This computer is connected to:" from "Automatic" to "Work Network" or "The Internet."  You may also need to disable your computer's firewall to get a successful passthrough connection (on my computer it is a hit or miss proposition).

If you want to use your device's GPRS/Edge/3G data connection (subscribed through your cellular provider), you'd use the Internet Sharing option on the device.  See this article to learn how to enable and use Internet Sharing on your device:  "Tethering a laptop to a WM6.1 device "

    Hi,
      I have a similar question.

I am using WM6.1 device and Activesync 4.5.  On my WM device, I can connect and surf the internet.  But once I connected the device by activeysnc to my PC, I am unable to surf the web.  The error "The page cannot be found.  Please check the name again" (The websites are google.com and hotmail.com !)

I checked that I can connect to the websites on the deivce when it is physically disconnected from activesync.

I am using a software to show the PDA screen to the PC.  The people will look at the PC screen while I use the WM device to connect to some websites for demo purposes.

For the PDA screen to be shown on PC, Activesync must be connected, but this caused me to lose my internet access on the WM device.

      i have already tried:
    1) uncheck the 'enable advanced network functionality' (Settings -> Connections -> USB to PC) on device and
    2) Check 'Allow wireless connection on device when connected to the desktop' for Activesync on PC.

      Thanks for any suggestions.

    Regards

You might check your computer's firewall and even disable the firewall to see if that makes a difference (it could be blocking the ActiveSync passthrough internet connection)

The wireless connection on device option that you are enabling would be if you wanted to run a wifi or data (GPRS/Edge/3G) connection on the device while it is connected to your computer and ActiveSync is running (so this connection would not be the ActiveSync internet passthrough connection).  If you enable WIFI on your device and get an internet connection that way, is this connection maintained when you connect it to your computer and run an ActiveSync connection?

    Hi,
My firewall is already disabled.  I have already solved the problem.

In "Start > Settings > Connections > Advanced Tab > Select Networks".  The dropdown option for "Programs that automatically connect to a private network should connect using:" was set to "My Work Network".

When I set it to the 3G network that I am using, which is also the same option for "Programs that automatically connect to the Internet should connect using:", it works fine now, as I have required.

      Thanks.
