    I found a work-around for this issue today at 2:48 a.m....

The work-around is to change the the file extension from .mp4 to .3gp.   This work-around appears to work for both Windows Media Player 11 and QuickTime 7.5.

Unfortunate the codecs used on your phone are only supported by Windows media player on your phone.

Look at 3gp players for your computer

Try Spb Mobile DVD to convert your movies to mobile format. A trial can be downloaded from http://www.spbsoftwarehouse.com/products/mobiledvd/

Why would I want to convert my movies to movies to mobile format?  I can already watch them on my mobile device.  That is not what I desire.  I wish to watch them on NON-mobile devices.

I have the exact same problem that the original poster has.  What's more weird is, when I copy them from my phone to my computer, the copy utility says they're being converted to desktop computer format.  I guess that's just the file type, but has nothing to do with the video codec.

you can also change the format in which the videos are taken, i change it from mpeg4 to motion jpeg, and now i dont have problem viewing the video, also the change of the extension works

i haven't try to edit those videos

    good luck

i recieve this error on certain files with quicktime, media player classic plays them without complaint, which saves a lot of bother with converting stuff.
