Cyber attacks, and the like?
Sun, 12 Jul 2009 04:31:22 Z2009-07-12T04:31:22Zhttp://social.microsoft.com/Forums/en-US/windowsmobilehelp/thread/c5914a56-1f81-4b01-9446-0c041d6f66d6#af83e598-2587-4a3d-994a-b997e1ccafb2http://social.microsoft.com/Forums/en-US/windowsmobilehelp/thread/c5914a56-1f81-4b01-9446-0c041d6f66d6#af83e598-2587-4a3d-994a-b997e1ccafb2manjesh alexhttp://social.microsoft.com/Profile/en-US/?user=manjesh%20alexCan't Update Windows Update "error 80072ee7" on Samsung Omnia i910 Verizon
i have a toshiba portege G810..i was able to check windows update using wifi in first two months..last two months i am unable to do the same and send to toshiba service center for bios update..after update i found same problem

(result code 80072ee7)..replaced mobile with a new unit...same error after 1 month..

hope microsoft or mvp moderator will come up with a solution..

Thu, 23 Jul 2009 16:16:59 Z2009-07-23T16:16:59Zhttp://social.microsoft.com/Forums/en-US/windowsmobilehelp/thread/c5914a56-1f81-4b01-9446-0c041d6f66d6#f1414709-c194-439f-ad59-0fa4c5fda0achttp://social.microsoft.com/Forums/en-US/windowsmobilehelp/thread/c5914a56-1f81-4b01-9446-0c041d6f66d6#f1414709-c194-439f-ad59-0fa4c5fda0acmags2009http://social.microsoft.com/Profile/en-US/?user=mags2009Can't Update Windows Update "error 80072ee7" on Samsung Omnia i910 VerizonI, too, am having the same problem trying to update windows mobile on my HTC smartphone. On Sunday, 4Chan founder Christopher Poole posted a notice that AT&T was "filtering/blocking img.4chan.org" for AT&T customers.

AT&T confirmed the blocking, but said it was because of a denial-of-service attack on 4Chan that began on Friday. It said access was blocked temporarily to prevent the attack from impacting its other customers, and "was in no way related to the content at img.4chan.org."

Poor Response, Not Censorship

It added, "Overnight Sunday, after we determined the denial-of-service threat no longer existed, AT&T removed the block on the IP addresses in question. We will continue to monitor for denial-of-service activity and any malicious traffic to protect our customers." DDoS attacks brought down the 4Chan site twice in June.

Poole appeared to confirm AT&T's statement in a blog posting. "This wasn't a sinister act of censorship, but rather a bit of a mistake and a poorly executed, disproportionate response on AT&T's part," he wrote. "Whoever pulled the trigger on blackholing the site probably didn't anticipate (nor intend) the consequences of doing so."

While the block was in effect, some 4Chan members moved to retaliate, reportedly posting the phone number and e-mail address of AT&T CEO Randall Stephenson. A report that Stephenson had died appeared on CNN's user-generated iReport Web site but was quickly removed.

Reactions across the Web indicated a fear of 4Chan's users. "AT&T has just opened perhaps the most vindictive, messy can of worms it could have possibly found," said TechCrunch. "Blocking any site is an extreme breach of user trust, but the decision to block 4chan in particular just seems stupid. Expect the Web equivalent of rioting if this doesn't change soon."

Amid the fuss, the DDoS attack on 4Chan continued, slowing the site and bouncing back millions of messages to AT&T's servers.

FCC Likely To Weigh In

Whatever the case, AT&T's blocking presents an appearance of censorship and likely will catch the eye of new FCC Chairman Julius Genachowski, who favors network neutrality. The Federal Trade Commission is also rumored ready to enforce neutrality rules for Internet service providers.

AT&T reportedly submitted comments to the FCC arguing against network neutrality. The company wants the FCC to rule on individual cases instead of adopting a broad rule."

_________________________________________________________________________________________________________________
I draw the parallel because a provider blocking or disabling this WIN Update functionality on their network may seemingly be censorship at least. But in the real world if they are blocking WIN Mobile Update is incredibly bad business as they are supposed to "provide service". Make/Model/Carrier - who cares? Update worked for 2 months at the beginning of the the year and then the connection issue arose. Nice investigating regarding the name query, SmirRa!!!

But all in all I think we all need to take a step back and waft through the thick endless smokescreen. What updates are you expecting? Let alone provision of any new capability. My phone's features do not all work as advertised. What is worse however is the the person whom I paid for the hardware & software and monthly service doesn't support those features. the problem with my then contacting the phone manufacturer or microsoft is that I don't pay them (directly) and am not a direct customer.

These companies don't really care directly about the features in so much as there is sufficiient bait to get you to buy a phone and monthly service. Once you are in, well your are in. 2years...might as well be life.

So where is the effort going? Clearly marketing. Making it all look flash...

Microsoft learned a valuable lesson from selling to a world of customers in XP. YOu just can't kill that thing when everybody is using it. And if you can't kill it, well then it is killing your profitability.

With Vista we saw Microsoft strategically market compatibility and qualification as smoke screens to push further distance and maneuver vendors into the direct firing line.

The value from a good game of Piggy In The Middle; whenno single company is incentivised to fix the overall package it is clearly obvious that it is more profitable to point the finger at a partner company and ultimately infuriate the ____ out of you enough so that you might be stupid enough to buy/upgrade your device and service package to a supposedly all new and improved and more capable phone and even from them again.

Where's the money in updates?

Wot no update ._.
This is a just a fall out effect caused by the operations of capitalism as governed by our current and immutable laws of economics.

Sun, 16 Aug 2009 13:12:06 Z2009-08-16T13:12:06Zhttp://social.microsoft.com/Forums/en-US/windowsmobilehelp/thread/c5914a56-1f81-4b01-9446-0c041d6f66d6#94d3c33d-7095-4639-ae1c-037a555352b4http://social.microsoft.com/Forums/en-US/windowsmobilehelp/thread/c5914a56-1f81-4b01-9446-0c041d6f66d6#94d3c33d-7095-4639-ae1c-037a555352b4lipoasdfhttp://social.microsoft.com/Profile/en-US/?user=lipoasdfCan't Update Windows Update "error 80072ee7" on Samsung Omnia i910 Verizonhttp://www.microsoft.com/windowsmobile/en-us/meet/wm61-faq.mspx
Tue, 29 Sep 2009 02:01:02 Z2009-09-29T02:01:02Zhttp://social.microsoft.com/Forums/en-US/windowsmobilehelp/thread/c5914a56-1f81-4b01-9446-0c041d6f66d6#73039cea-a29e-4771-91c6-bdb44b879f00http://social.microsoft.com/Forums/en-US/windowsmobilehelp/thread/c5914a56-1f81-4b01-9446-0c041d6f66d6#73039cea-a29e-4771-91c6-bdb44b879f00DJH1986http://social.microsoft.com/Profile/en-US/?user=DJH1986Can't Update Windows Update "error 80072ee7" on Samsung Omnia i910 Verizon

I'm not quite sure who you are referencng here by the "you guys". You do realize that those of us that participate here are all users like you and are not Microsoft employees ... don't you?

Jack Cook
http://www.experiencemobility.net
http://www.mobilitysite.com
It has not been made clear to me until now that "Moderators" are not employees. The term "MVP" suggests that you are an employee. I had assumed that the badges below a mod's name showed how many people they have helped.

Still, repeating the same answer over and over does not fix my 80072ee7 problem. I saw it the first, second, and third time you posted it. I want a different answer. How do I enable updates/fixes to my Windows 6.1 phone?
